On Friday, Jason "Mayhem" Miller (24-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) announced he was returning to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
On Saturday, UFC brass announced he's already lined up to fight.
UFC officials today announced Miller will meet wrestling standout Aaron Simpson (8-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) at July's "UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber II" event.
Miller's return comes six years after a lone appearance at welterweight in which he was dominated by Georges St-Pierre. "Mayhem" now returns to the UFC as a thoroughly experienced middleweight. Miller is 12-3 with one no contest since his ill-fated trip to the octagon and lost a unanimous decision to Jake Shields for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight belt in November 2009.
Outside of the cage, Miller has kept busy as the host of MTV's popular reality show "Bully Beatdown," which completed its third season this past December. It's unknown whether a fourth season is in the works.
Meanwhile, Simpson returns to action after a recent one-sided beatdown of Mario Miranda at UFC Fight Night 24. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak for Simpson, who had dropped back-to-back outings against Mark Munoz and Chris Leben. Prior to the skid, Simpson had notched seven-straight wins to open his career, including three octagon victories and one win under the WEC banner.
UFC 132, which is the UFC's Independence Day-weekend show, takes place July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The night's main card, including a championship headliner between bantamweight titleholder Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber, airs live on pay-per-view.
I think Miller's JJ is more than enough to either sweep and submit from the top, or sweep or scramble and win on the feet.
Was really hoping for some Bisping vs Miller TUFness. Oh well, assuming he can string some wins together, he'll innevitably face Bisping or the "Republitard" and the trashtalk will be phenomonal!
pre fight trash talk would be redifined if he fought either of those guys but i like millers chances in this one should be a decent fight and cant wait to see how well he does now that hes back in the big show
Simpson doesn't have a great chance anywhere in this one. He is no pushover by any means, but Miller should prove to be too steep of a challenge. (It's not that Simpson isn't legit, it's how legit Mayhem is in comparison.) Miller's wrestling is quite underrated, but only because he's relied so heavily on natural talent at times. This is a very cool matchup, and it's not quite the "throwing to the wolves" that I expected for Miller.
I think Miller has this in the bag, but on a side note, I hope he makes another season of Bully Beatdown and starts using superstar UFC fighters this time around lol.
.. However, can't help but wish he was on a different card, because this one is already super stacked meaning he's most likely going to be on the undercard
Mayhem is not that great at defending TD's obviously Simpson will realise what a chance this is , and basically will wrestle **** his way to a decision and big scalp victory. :thumb02:
Im dissappointed with this news tbh. Like other i was really hoping for a Miller v Bisping/Sonnen TUF. Match up wise, this is a really bad style match up for Miller, i think their pretty even on the feet, but Simpsons wrestling is much better and his top game is strong, i can see Simpson getting a UD here.
I'm glad the UFC got Miller but I think Simpson wins this one. He's the stronger wrestler and overall the more powerful guy and I think he'll control the fight and win a decision. I hope I'm wrong.
Interesting fight for Miller, and more importantly, for those who only know him from his fight with Shields this is a good chance to show he isn't one of those strikers who loses to wrestlers on a regular basis. Still not an easy fight, but one that should give Mayhem a chance to show how good he really is.
Mayhem's good at "folding" blankets and "putting them away"... c wut i did there?
