As we've seen many (maybe too many) bad stoppages, early stand ups etc vote for the best, who in your opinion makes the fewest mistakes.

They both have made mistakes but Herb Dean and Big John are streets ahead of the rest imo.

The only question mark i have over Big John is that sometimes he seems to get swayed by the crowd, promotor etc. A prime example being the Rumble/Vitor fight where he kept standing the fight up after about 10 seconds of inactivity. This was clearly done as the crowd was Brazilian and the UFC were pissed at Rumble for missing weight.

Edit: I forgot about Kim Winslow... she is probably the best actually :confused05:

That was Dan Miragliotta, not John McCarthy.

I think Herb, Rosenthal, and McCarthy are the best, I actually liked the Fedor stoppage and Rosenthal also let Shogun/Hendo and Lesnar/Carwin go on.

Winslow is the worst, and Mazzagatti's a close second.

I think Herb Dean and Josh Rosenthal have been pretty steady.

However, I think Steve Mazzagatti and Kim Winslow should have a fight to the death to see who the shitter ref really is. At least we would be rid of one of them.... or if we're lucky, maybe they'd simultaneously kill each other.....

Herb Dean is usually at the top, all the refs make mistakes, but Herb tends to make the least, and is the most consistent at getting the fight stopped at the right time and noticing injuries and isint swayed by the fighter to keep fighting when he shouldnt.

Josh Rosenthal is always good, and imo Yves Lavigne and Dan Miragliotta has been steadily improving recently. I also think John McCarthy and Mario Yamasaki are middle of the pack refs.

Kim Winslow is the worst, and Steve Mazzagatti and Kevin Mulhall is close.

Right now my Ranks are:
Tier 1: Dean > Rosenthal
Tier 2: Miragliotta > Lavigne > McCarthy > Yamasaki > Marc Goddard
Tier 3: Mazzagatti > Mulhall > Leon Roberts > Winslow

McCarthy, Rosenthal, Dean. Pretty much agree with everyone else, except I think the worst is Cecil Peoples, with kudos to the ref of Pat Curran vs Joe Warren.

Edit* Fernando Yamasaki is kind of a wank as well.

Herb Dean and that's it. Rosenthal has more bad calls than good. People talk about how he lets fights go on longer than other referees do but they only bring up the few good calls that he has. They never bring up the fights where a fighter has gone unconscious or has taken a beaten that he shouldn't have. Pretty much every call he makes is a late stoppage.

EDIT: Forgot about Yamasaki. Don't think I've ever disagreed with a call of his.

I think the most common referees (Herb, Rosenthal, McCarthy etc.) are all generally good at there jobs because they have a lot of experience now and know how to handle certain situations, its the newer refs that have the most problems, i find a lot of them dont even know the rules or understand what is going on a lot of the time.

If i had to pick the best ref id probably go with Josh.

Yamasaki would get a vote, but I still remember the Erick Silva DQ with disdain.

Herb Dean and Rosanthal get the vote from me.
