Overeem responds to JDS

It was the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight mash up that everyone wanted, but never came to fruition.

Junior dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem was originally slated to go down at UFC 146 in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 26, 2012. Unfortunately, "JDS" and "The Reem" never did get the chance to prove who was the baddest 265-pounder on the planet because of Overeem's failed random drug test that kept him from being approved for a license to fight in Nevada.

Since that time, dos Santos went on to destroy Frank Mir at UFC 146, and he's currently said to be fighting Cain Velasquez next. However, the bout between he and Velasquez has curiously still not been signed or confirmed for any event.

In the meantime, Overeem has constantly and loudly campaigned to be next in line for the title shot that was once promised to him. In December, he will be able to appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to apply for a license. Assuming he is approved, he wants to fight dos Santos as soon as possible.

During an interview with FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight," Overeem reiterated sentiments he has been making for months now, stating that he believes "Cigano" is ducking him, and that he is afraid:

"I think he's afraid to fight me. He was happy that the last fight on May 26 didn't happen against us. I approached him at the UFC Fighter Summit in Vegas and said, 'Let's do it. Let's prove something to the world and lets fight.' Then he suddenly acted like he didn't understand English and how he wants to fight Cain first. The fact of the matter is, I'm the number-one heavyweight in the world and if he wants to be the number-one heavyweight, he has to come through me."

Overeem is very confident that getting a license will not be an issue this time around. The fight between he and dos Santos may end up not being made, but as far as "Ubereem" is concerned, it won't a licensing problem that derails this fight:

"My manager and I have a good relationship with the (Nevada State Athletic) Commission and we're taking all steps necessary and following all the rules, and I don't expect any problems to get my license from the commission when the time comes."

Recently, dos Santos was quoted as calling Overeem a "punk" that he wanted to "shut up." Overeem has since seen the comments, and he is amused:

"First he wants to fight Cain [Velasquez] and now me. Talk all you want. Come into the Octagon. I will immediately say yes. Give me and the fans what they want. But he's expecting that fight not to happen. I would welcome that fight and want it to happen. I would say yes every time to that fight."

In closing, Overeem made a heartfelt plea to dos Santos to consent to fight him and to give everyone the fight they allegedly want.

He may be appealing to the wrong powers, but his request should be duly noted:

"Junior, give me and the fans and the UFC what they want. You've already fought Cain. That would just be another win. But a win over me would give you the number-one spot. Without a win over me, they'll always question your championship. So bring it to the table, my friend."

And so, the mixed martial arts (MMA) world turns!

Big talk for a man suspended until December for failing his drugs test.

He's just trying to get JDS angry enough to wait for him, and so the fans don't forget about him while he's away.

Of course he has business calling him a punk. Overeem disrespected him by failing the test and getting a huge fight cancelled, and then proceeded to talk loads of shit about JDS saying he's scared.

This statement should resonate. I'm not overly enthused to see a rematch just yet. Only reason that happened was because of the drug test. The UFC knows what to do. Wait for NYE and make this a HW blockbuster just like Mir vs Brock...now that there's tension in the air.
Tension + smack talking = PPVS $$$

Like both guys but Overeem's career at Heavyweight isn't legit, he's like the Barry Bonds of MMA. Sure he's the all time home runs leader, but do people really look at it the same as if a guy like Pujols got it?

No and that's the way I see this, Junior is the true champion and the number one guy in the world even if Overeem beats him, I won't look at him the same way I looked at Junior, Cain, Brock or any of the other Champs.

I'm a huge Overeem fan.

He's most definatly #1.
In my head.

In the real world JDS is the #1 HW in the world. No if ands or buts. He's defeated the whos who of relevant HWs. And he's done it damn impressivley

The UFC would have a tough time promoting Cain/JDS when it happened a year ago for free and lasted a minute. Rematches work if the first fight had a storyline (like Chael getting caught by Silva, Lesnar pounding Mir until he got caught, Edgar/Maynard having a war, etc). There's no storyline here- Cain got beat quickly and has only had one win since.

And the UFC obviously rewards trolling and baiting your opponent. It worked for Diaz (until GSP got injured).

Hello, let me introduce myself first..my name is EH, living in the Netherlands and following K1, MMA and UFC for quit a while now.

I just want to reply on the comments made by some of the guys on these forums.

Overeem would lose to JDS? Why do you think that?
If i remember correctly, there were alot of peeps saying Overeem would lose to Brock also. It took him 1 round to retire this man from the sport.

I'm not sure, but the Dutch fighters, like Hoost, Bonjasky, Aerts, Schilt, Overeem and Badr Hari (he trained and lived all of his life in the Neterhlands) are the best of the best. JDS is talking alot of carbage as does Overeem. But Overeem is the man who can back his words up with a great performance and a KO to JDS.

JDS has no chance whatsoever to destroy Overeem. JDS will learn the hard way. Overeem can strike, kick and use his elbows because of his training in Holland. They are complete fighters. Hell, he even van put you in a quilotine to choke the hell out of you. JDS will try to strike this man down, but in the end Overeem will be about 5 lvls to high for this nice gentleman.

Overeem is easily number one IMO, based on his body of work it hard to disprove. 10-1 as a HW outside the UFC, came into the UFC and destroyed Brock Lesnar. With all things consider he is number one, you could make a case for Cain, but he lost to JDS already.

As for this topic, Overeem is speaking some BS, but its working. JDS wants to fight him, even if you doubt his ranking at HW. He is picking a fight and will likely get it.

So... what did overeem actually test positive for? Is it guaranteed he cheated or is it still up in the air? Doesn't really matter though, 2 or 3 shots from each guy and JDS will be hurt really bad holding his ribs while Overeem is lying on the ground rolling round wondering what happened. JDS is the Aldo of HW, there are no current skillsets that beat him. Overeem's chin is too weak to beat him, to Beat JDS you need a Hendo like Chin because Junior's fights usually end with one punch.

A massively high Testosterone:Epitestosterone ratio which can only be achieved through either synthetic testosterone which is a steroid or other anabolic steroids that he cycled out during his camp.

So it is guaranteed he cheated, but it could be multiple choices as to what exactly he cheated with.

And yes agreed his chin won't stand up to JDS, a HW version of Hendo would probably be a more dangerous fight.

Overeem been ko'd 6 times. One of them by Kharitonov who used his boxing to KO Overeem. I know this fight was 5 years ago and Overeem has obviously improved, but I don't think he has improved that much. JDS will pick him apart with his boxing and KO him.

...All this talk about Overeem. He won against a scared, outclassed Rogers. Fought to a tough on-the-feet decision against Werdum in Strikeforce and liverkicked a surgically repaired Brock Lesnar. Reem's chin is glass compared to Juniors. He hasn't faced the UFC elites like a Cain or JDS. I can't ever remember seeing JDS actually hurt from a punch in a fight. He's never been seriously rocked and has been caught with hard shots by Nelson, Mir, ect. JDS has TDD just as good or better than Overeem. Honestly, a specialist like JDS with the best hands in the HW division can serious put away Overeem if he connects. Overeem has trouble fighting in close quarters, i.e. like when he fought Werdum. Werdum was staying busy and landing combos. Junior will try and knock Reem's head off with his sweet angles and brutal KO power...
