IMO this isn't just Bellator news since there is probably atleast a 75% chance that Eddie is in the UFC next.

Source is BE.

"That's not really up to me. I'm in between with my management and promotions. Bjorn Rebney was gracious enough to give us our release papers early, earlier than what we were contractually to get, he gave it to us Friday. So we're going to try to move it along as fast as possible for myself and for Bellator. We'll see. Nothing's set in stone and I'm just waiting to see what happens, letting the management and letting the promotions do their job now."

I was looking at the current fights scheduled. Looks like the UFC doesn't have many options out there for Eddie right now. The only 2 realistic options I see is Eddie vs Maynard or some kind of 1 fight deal with Eddie vs Gilbert Melendez. With Diaz-Bendo, Showtime-Cowboy and Aldo-Edgar booked up, I don't see them putting Eddie vs someone like Wiman, Miller or Johnson.

I strongly disagree. They are going to have to pay him very well to get him. You can't risk him losing to some middle of the pack guy or even an up and comer like Michael Johnson or someone like that. Considering his current world ranking and the money it will cost to land Eddie IMO he should be given a #1 contender fight or close to it right from the beginning. Lombard isn't the only one to blame for that shit fight, Timmy B shoulders much of the blame for his gameplan during that fight, which I personally scored in favor of Lombard.
Lombard was being hyped up as the man to fight Silva, everyone expected him to come in, lay Boetsch out in brutal fashion and they would do then hype up his big undefeated streak and the way he won those fights vs. Anderson. Lombard came in and he laid a huge egg and he's not the only man to do this, Jake Shields has yet to turn in a good performance and probably would have lost to Martin Kampmann back in his debut, had Kampmann not fought like a jackass and tried to grapple with him, so the UFC 'jitters' may be a real thing and Alvarez might succumb to those.

I would love to see Alvarez vs. Miller, I think that's a great fight and it's a winnable fight for him too since I don't think Jim Miller's that great, the problem with Alvarez is while all his fights are exciting he always ends up getting rocked so I don't see him being Champ because Maynard, Pettis, and Cerrone would probably polish him off but he is a legit top ten guy and should be paid accordingly. The upside to being with the UFC is far greater than Bellator, with the possibility of fighting on FOX and big name sponsors and what not.

Ohh man I disagree big time. IMO I'd rather see Showtime vs Eddie for a #1 contender fight and let Cowboy take on someone else. IMO that is what SHOULD happen. But it probably won't. Miller has the name but isn't he coming off a loss? Eddie wouldn't have alot to gain in that fight IMO other then getting his octagon debut out of the way.

Man, Bjorn Rebney seems to be an awesome dude. He did the same with Hector, and I can't think of another MMA promotion's president who would do that for some of their top talent. I know Dana would never in a million years do that. He's rather screw his fighter over and follow their contract to the letter while slandering them in the media if he saw one of his top guys trying to go to another promotion.

I respect Bjorn a lot with the way he's handling things and respecting his fighters.

Also, I cannot wait to see Eddie in the UFC. I have been dying to see him fight some of the top guys in the UFC for the past few years.

I've read his interviews. He seems quite erudite. Definitely business savvy.

I wonder at one point does the UFC just say it's time to make another acquisition.

Alvarez wasn't released by Bellator he met his contractual obligations and became a free agent. Unless I am missing something the point of what Bellator was doing was they are waiving there 90 day matching clause so that Eddie can negotiate with outside promotions in good faith. That is what they did with Hector and it makes sense because they understand there place in the industry. Bellator needed to do that especially since they way they treated the Tyson Nam situation enforcing a 18 month clause on a fighter they released without ever competing.

Unless I'm mistaken, Eddie would have had to wait a little while, not sure how long, to receive offers from other organizations. Bellator went ahead and waived that to accelerate the process if I'm understanding it correctly.

Edit: Here is the quote:
"Based on our relationship with Ed, there's no reason to hold him to a series of months of not having the opportunity to look at those offers," Rebney said.

The fighter is obligated to take the Bellator offer if they don't waive the clause or they have to sit out the matching period unless of course Bellator doesn't want to or can't match the offer.
