It's been a while since I've been wrestling - lets not go into my excuses. Anyway, I never had trouble getting the mount or defending most submissions. But the one submission I could never defend or pull off was the armbar - anybody want to explain it for this noob?

armbars are illegal in wrestling.

What kind of armbar? There are a ton. Since you get to mount easily, you may want to learn armbars from mount. There are quite a few. You can armbar from side control, from guard.... Do you train somewhere?

Defending armbars is another story. It's hard to learn something like that from the Internet.

I definitely won't try to explain an armbar to you. My submission descriptions are terrible.

IMHO, Ironman is the best guy on here when it comes to grappling instruction.

Otherwise, go to lockflow.com, find an armbar you want to learn, and practice, practice, practice until you can do it in your sleep!

Any advice n how to get out an armbar?
It's not easy. If you're on top, you can try to stack them and yank your arm out. And if it's legal, maybe go for a slam, but we have seen how that can end, so it's pretty much a desperation move only. If you're on your back you're pretty much f*cked unlessyou can turn you palm upward (makes it hard for him to hyperexted the elbow) and turn in to him. A video really would be a better way to describe these, but I can't find any.

in the video shown it is a very slim chance of catching anyone with that arm bar, if they have the slightest clue of how to grapple.i have never caught anyone that had 6 months of training in the armbar video

your more likely to catch people form attempted escape or bait with a lapel choke, from s-mount, or useing your guard to ladder, flying arm bar, stepping over if they turtle, side contol opposing arm.

don't get caught keep your elbows close to your body.

on your back, and they are trying to finish. palm away from his chest, i see many people try to defend armbars by holding thier hands from the start, you are better off the arm they attack put that elbow as tight to your body as possible, with your free hand place over your elbow of the arm they are attacking and help press arm close to body. this will buy you some time, the goal you have is to get his leg off your face, or sometime disrupting his allignment by putting his other leg in between your legs, and trapping is enought to break his leverage to get his other leg off your face, then you will belly out into his guard.

from in his guard, his goal is to make an angle use his legs to break your balance. there is acouple things you can do, when he tries to bring his leg over your face, palm away from his chest, catch the crook of his leg, this will not let him apply the pressure to your face to finish, i do this with bringing him up on his shoulder bladesas i brace him up with my leg and crunch down with my weight attempting to go chest to chest and stck him, i now twist my hand like i am turning a door knob pulling my elbow past his groin. or i will clasp my own hand if it is past the decribed point. when i do this i am fighting his pressure, i will spread my base and shifting to the opposing side of my locked arm and drop my base, pulling my elbows down, this motion lays him on his side so he does not have the floor backing him for a powerful armbar, his makes the fight his grip VS, his legs trying to extend my arm, my 2 arms pulling, it also puts him in bad possition because i already started my pass, and have killed his legs.

there are many more attacks and defences

how about a knee on belly armbar? I have much more luck with those. A lot of people don't see them coming.

Regarding on how to escape an armbar, I usually see it coming right before its done and I pop up and roll with it and get a hold of my arm, I then try to stand up and instead of pulling my arm out, I twist it out

many people panic and fight a losing battle when they try to pry their arm out, but something I always say is that his upper body is much stronger than your arm, so what I do is I try and stand up or get up, and I step to my left (if my right arm is caught), this way you can turn your arm so that you have more leverage on your elbow, and from there you can pry your head out from behind his leg and twist your arm out.

Its risky, but I personally can say its always worked for me, however I'm still having problems with the one armbar where the opponant is on his stomach I.E (Nog vs Mirko)

Probably the easiest armbar is the knee on belly cross-side armbar.

Get to the knee on belly position, most people's gut reaction is to push the knee off with their cross side arm. when they go to push out swim the knee on belly side arm through the triangle hole it makes and grasp the hand onto the tricep. Once you have the hand grip secure step and spin over with the other leg, tucking it under the shoulder, letting the knee on belly leg slide across into the armbar position. Once you get the position locked up simply hug the arm and extend.

Armbars from mount I find are easiest done from the S-mount. Once you get a good S-mount there are several submissions and when I do my armbars from there I rarely drop back, but rather armbar them while sitting on top of them. It traps the arm nicely and is a very secure position. There are several chokes, arm locks, and shoulder locks from this position.

Going from straight mount (both knees down legs tucked) I have rarley been a fan of the "both hands down, form a triangle" method of armbar. I prefer to posture down to a 45 angle, fish an arm through, grab the tricep, take my free hand and make a fist placed against their chin, force the head over, and then rotate into my armbar. I find from here you can get the armbar even if they don't extend their arms and it's a much more secure armbar.
