So im going to be starting MMA training really soon, and I have a $130 budget to spend currently on some decent gear to get me started. What do you think is most essential for my training? I was thinking of getting some bag gloves, but I dont have a heavy bag.

Also hello everyone, this is my first post here. :)

depends what u want to do
no point getting bag gloves if u dont have a bag

just get some 12oz gloves for bagwork anyway
16oz gloves for sparring although i use my 12oz
mouth guard for sparring
shin guards for sparring

if you dont want to do sparring all you will need is 12oz gloves

Don't waste your budget on things like rash guards and shorts. A pair of sports shorts and a tshirt will do. I got a pair of board shorts for £10 from a local clothes outlet and they are basically the same as any sprawl shorts. They are even made of this funny(like neoprene) material that has loads of give in them and secure ties around the waist.

Concentrate on specialist essential items. Mouth guard, open hand grappling gloves, 14/16oz gloves for sparring and if your budget allows, shin guards and headgear. Those are not essential though, especially when you're just starting out. You'll probably be spending more time on pads and bags than people.

Edit:
Here are the shorts I was talking about. Can't say enough good things.

Get 2 good sets of gloves...boxing/MT and open palm grappling/competition gloves. Also buy hand wraps and learn to use them properly...there is nothing workse than a wrist injury when you start out. I would also recommend head gear. I have invested quite a bit of money on gear and it pays off every time you train. Save cash and get it as you go.
