The UFC decided to hold a 4 man tourney, that I assume will span over 2-3 shows to unify the HW belt. I know this is old news, but it definetly warrents discussion.

rd 1
Couture Vs. Lesnar
Nog Vs. Mir

This could be very interesting not just because Couture is back with the UFC and is facing a green but physically gifted opponent in Brock Lesnar. But if Brock wins and Mir pulls off the upset we can have a rematch between the 2. Couture vs Nog, which is the concensus pick will be a very interesting fight, both guys are living legends who have shocked the world on numerous occasions, this would be a classic battle that is very hard to pick. Lesnar Vs. Nog is a very interesting fight in it's own right. Kinda reminds me of Nog vs Sapp.

Wether or not it's fair or unfair to certain fighters this makes what was a very dull and shallow HW division all of a sudden very interesting.

I'm really excited about this and am picking Nog to win it all.

Yeah I have no question about Nog being in the final. The Lesnar/Couture fight could go either way IMO but right now I am leaning towards Couture.

I think Nog would win either but in very different ways. He would likely have to take Couture to a decision b/c Randy would play conservative. Lesnar would be subbed one way or another pretty quickly

I see Nog taking this one as well. I can't think of an outcome of Mir beating Nog at all. He is not gonna get a submission on him, the only way he can win in knock out a man that has never been finished even against Fedor or Cro Cop. And as aaroonyman said his striking is brutal. I think Randy beats Lesnar, but comes short against Nog in a classic.

Man, i am so amped for this tourny,
I wanna see Brock beat Couture, but not to the extent of missing out on Nog v Couture, because IMO, that's the best fight that can be made in the UFC as of present...

I can't think of a strength Mir has against Nog. Like they say, everyone has a 'punchers chance' but you don't against Nog, cause he can't be KO'ed (ask Fedor, Sapp, Cro Cop, Herring, Sylvia..the list goes on). And with Travis Lutter being released from the UFC, Mir has the worst gas tank in all of the UFC (except shogun....JKS :))

Winner, Nogueira

I want to say nog, but I had to pick brock because nog never faced someone like him before. And no, sapp is nothing like brock.

Lesnar's strength, size and athleticism may very well be enough to defeat Randy, although the fight will be predicated on whether or not Couture can take him down. I'm more than certain that Randy has a substantial advantage over Brock when it comes to just about every facet, but the physical difference between the two (60 lbs is a damn lot), along with Brock's durability, could decide the outcome of the fight.

It should also be taken into account that Couture hasn't fought in over a year, and at his age inactivity to that degree could prove to be detrimental to him from a physical standpoint. On the flip side, Brock is still very short on experience, but it's more than adequate to say that Couture is twice the fighter Herring is, with all due respect.

It's an already known commodity that Brock has power in his hands, but we haven't seen enough of him on the feet to incite whether or not he beats Randy there. Lesnar needs to avoid the fight from entering Randy's world, in the clinch. If Couture goads the shot and gets within clinch range, Brock is in serious trouble. He's a virtual unknown off his back, but I would suspect Randy finishes the fight there convincingly if he's successful with the trips.

This fight will in all likelihood be determined on whether or not Randy can get the takedowns. If he can, Brock's in for a long night, if not I can definitely see Lesnar putting Randy into ambiguity.

As for Nog/Lesnar, Brock is far too inexperienced to be matched up against such a technically endowed jitz dude that, odds are, would leave the cage with a limb. Not a smart match-up in terms of constructively building Brock's stature along with legitimizing his role in the division, but his mainstream popularity from professional wrestling negates that to begin with.

Given the many intangibles, Couture/Lesnar is a coin flip depending on who will get the takedowns. Although until further notice, we have all the incentive in the world to believe that Brock will get tapped by just about any technical BJJ player, Nog very much included in that crowd.

Lesnar will destroy Nog until Nog gets him in a triangle puts him to bed, sings him a lullabye and then celebrates with his boys in the center of the Octegon. Minatauro is on a whole other level than Brock, Brock might have size and strength, but he will have no answer for Nogs submission game, Nog is also a much more polished striker.

Lesnar's will want to take Nog down and he will, that will be Lesnar's demise.

I don't understand why people want to call this a HW Tourny. Randy has the HW belt and will have a title defense. Nog has the interim HW belt and will have a title defense against Mir. The belts will then be united in a fight.
Sounds like a tourney to me?:dunno:

Anyway, I see Nog taking the "actual" HW belt home with him at the end of all of this. Mir is gonna be more of a test for him then people seem to think, and then I see him subbing Lesnar at anypoint in a fight and beating Randy by UD. :dunno:

Glad to see Nog is overwhelmingly the choice here as he should win both fights and earn the "real" title although IMO the "real" title is already around his waist.

On a side note its interesting to see that Randy will likely be the underdog against Lesnar...once again. And if he beats Brock will likely be the underdog again Nogueira...once again. The dude just loves being the underdog

I'm voting for Lesnar, I think he's going to really run through Randy. I see Nog moving on past Mir but that fight is not a sure thing. Whoever comes out of the Nog/Mir fight I think is going to have an upward fight against a bigger stronger faster fighter in Lesnar. Now Nog has a legendary chin but I don't think he is going to be able to submit Lesnar who will probably fight similar to the Herring fight which is to say to not lose by sub. I'd love to see a Lesnar/Mir rematch, both fighters I like a lot but I think Lesnar walks away with the unified title and he will still get shit on in these forums. Really at first I was thinking this is the stupidest thing to do to Lesnar, but after thinking about it I think it's the BEST thing for him. Win lose or draw we all recognize experience as his greatest weekness by far, when this tournament is over I think we can expect to see his record giving him experience against the likes of Nog, Randy and Mir three of the best HW's of all time. Invaluable experience and probably will grow Lesnar more than anything he could possibly do. Anyhow, picking Lesnar but I'd be happy with any of these guys as champion.

I think Nogueira will prove that he's the man in the UFC once he taps Randy Couture in the finals.

If Brock beats Randy, then Nog will sub him. 25 minutes, Nog never quits, Lesnar will get tapped.

Where will Frank Mir be? Well, he'll be at his home, clutching his Urijah Faber poster, and sobbing his heart out. "Why? Why did Nogueira punch me in the face a million times?!? Will Urijah still love me if he see's me like this?"

Couture vs Nogueira is my dream fight, and I really hope it happens. Couture can bring the gameplanning, but he's no Fedor, and that's pretty much the only guy who can dominate Nogueira. Boxing wise, I think Nog's a little bit better. Couture definitely has the edge in the wrestling department and Nog's the man in the BJJ department.

Yeah I just want Randy vs Fedor out of all this. Randy kills Brock, while Mir upsets the world and subs Nog but meets his end at the hands of Captain America who in turn faces Red Skull! At that point we go Def Com Six and whomever's country loses nukes the other and zombie apocalypse begins!:thumb02:

I think Nog wins a fight against Mir, but I think it will be a lot closer than most think. I don't think i will be an amazing ground battle. IMO Nog is going to try to use his boxing and Mir is going to try to use kicks. I think Nog gets a TKO in round 4 or 5 after Mir gasses.

I don't think Lesnar is ready for someone with experience who knows how to wrestle. I think he will get frustrated that he can't control the fight and make a mistake early that Randy will capitalize on. I think Randy tko's him in round 2 or 3.

Nog vs Couture I think will go the distance with couture edging it out. I think Couture will stay in Nog's guard or half guard and score blows to edge out a close decision.

Randy/Lesnar is interesting, but if Couture is still the same fighter that beat Gonzaga he'll win. Randy just has to establish his pace and takedown game.

Unless Nogueira decides to **** off in the fight and get caught in a kneebar, he'll tko Mir.

Hopefully Randy finally doesn't screw the pooch again and we get him matched up with Nogueira.

Problem is Randy has stated that he believes Fedor will be his second fight in the ufc this time, there is a lot to lose if he gets tapped by Nogueira. But that could be a blessing, since Emelienko loves fighting guys Minotauro has already beat

After Chuck/Rashad fight I said I'm gonna stop prediciting mma matches alltogether. So, my WISH is to see Nog win. I think he has better ground and standup game then Mir although Mir can pull an upset and sub Nog.

Lesnar will be a tough challenge for Randy. IMO, he is too big and too goood of a wrestler to be taken down by Randy. But Randy, the original King Of Upsets, can overcome the odds again, I'm sure. Maybe he'll win via gogoplata:)

So, I believe Nog will be in the finals, but I wouldn't dare to predict the Lesnar/Couture fight.

Im almost thinking Mir because he is the guy everyone is looking past and he is very dangerous on the ground and it sounds in interviews that he is studying Nog hard and looking for weaknes's, I think its possible for him to catch Nog but if Nog is looking past him towards the winner of Couture/Lesnar then he is in big trouble becuase Mir will take that chance. If motivated and focused then Nog wins this but if evreyone is taking Mir as litely as it seems then they are in for trouble.

Say what you want but I think Lesnar is going to destroy Couture.

Both Mir and Herring are larger then Couture, Couture has better wrestling then either one but that size difference is going to be huge. Neither Herring or Mir could contain Lesnar there is no way Couture will.

The only way I see Couture winning is through submission. And I think Lesnar is going to amaze us with how much better MMA he has developed since his fight with Herring. There was a huge difference in his skills between his Mir and Herring fights and I expect him to only be better. He is hungry and wants this big time and will be doing everything in his will to prepare for this fight.

The other thing that amazes me about Lesnar is his speed, he is faster then Couture really. Then there is his "Donkey Kong" ground and pound.

As for the Mir Nogueira. I have Nogueira coming out ahead in this one. Which imo will set up a very good match for the final. I can't wait to watch all this unfold.
