My favorite submission is the gogoplata, so whenever someone uses the rubber guard correctly, I get all excited like. You can't sit tthere and tell me you don't pop a boner when BJ or Aoki pull the rubber guard with so much ease! LOVE IT!

It's honestly not used enough in MMA me thinks, but that could have somthing to do with how hard it is to pull off.

As in defend against a rubber guard? Well simple answer to that is, don't let the guy break your posture down. Once you are broken down into his rubber guard posturing up gets a little tough.

I don't use it myself, yet, I'm not flexible enough but I'm working on it. From what I've seen of those who know how to use it, it looks great.

I agree with CB that it is underused in MMA, and I would love to see more of it.

Meh. I think that the rubber guard is good in that it encourages fighters to control their opponents posture. I see so many guys try and shoot armbars on an opponent who's postured up all the way, and it's just ridiculous.

In that sense, it's really important to understand the significance of the high guard on a broken down opponent. The ability to control the head and shoulders in the rubber guard is great.

On the other hand, I tend to prefer a standard high guard at this point in my training on the basis that I have more experience with traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and my high guard is much more dangerous than the rubber guard.

Don't get me wrong, though, if my opponent puts a hand in the floor while in my guard, I'm going straight for the jiu-claw.
