Never doubt the drawing power of Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson.

This past weekend's Spike TV broadcast of The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale scored an average audience of 3.7 million viewers but peaked with 5.2 million for the non-headliner between Kimbo and Houston Alexander.

The Dec. 5 event was the most-watched season finale among the 10 seasons of "TUF." It was also the third most-watched UFC fight card in the promotion's history and the highest rated of 2009.

The finale was the most-watched show on cable among men 18-34 and men 18-49 for the day.

Overall "TUF 10" scored an averaged audience of 3.4 million viewers for its 12 regular-season episodes and finale. "TUF 8" and "TUF 9" had averaged just 2 million viewers.

The finale saw the crowning of former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson as the "TUF 10" winner. He outlasted a diverse cast that included runner-up Brendan Schaub, one of our NFL vets on the cast.

Additionally, Matt Hamill scored a hotly debated disqualification win over Jon Jones in the non-"TUF" co-headliner, and in a bout that turned out to be a bit of disappointment, Kimbo topped Houston Alexander in a 215-pound catchweight bout. The unanimous decision win marked his first official UFC victory.

Episode-by-episode "TUF 10" recaps (with ratings) can be found below:

* "TUF 10" episode No. 1: 4.1 million viewers

I agree with you. It's all about the $$$$$$. For some reason, people are atracted to kimbo. Him, coming from the streets, making his way into the world of MMA, kind of like a Cinderella story, or something like that.
But if the fans want to see Kimbo, the UFc will give them Kimbo. But after his last fight with Alexander, you must wonder: what is it that he brings to the world of MMA??? Other then a huge PPV potential, i see nothing.

I have been a fan of the UFC for a long time, and I like Kimbo even though he may not be the best fighter. I like him because of his character, He is not cocky or arrogant. Watching him on the show, he seems like a very nice guy who also had a tough upbringing.

You see fighters who also had tough upbringings and make it into the MMA world and they have this personality that many people turn away from.

I dont really see how this could possibly be a problem for MMA. if you get a personality people want to watch regardless of the outcome, it only grows the sport and maybe some of those Kimbo followers will take a liking to other fighters and will also buy their PPVs as well.

I like Kimbo also, however having someone like Kimbo might be harmful to MMA. Its good if you want MMA as a show but very bad if you want MMA as a sport.

In a sport you get the best who deserves the spot and not someone with a cinederella background.

Strikeforce won this round.

WAR KIMBO

New York, NY, December 8, 2009 – Spike TV’s telecast of “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights” live finale on Saturday, December 5 was the most watched final episode in the 10 seasons of the TUF franchise, peaking with 5.2 million viewers and a 5.9 rating with Men 18-34 for the Kimbo Slice-Houston Alexander fight. The over 5 million viewers were the most to watch a live UFC fight in 2009.
Overall, the three-hour fight card drew 3.7 million viewers, a 2.4 household rating, a 4.6 in Men 18-34 and was the most-watched show on cable with Men 18-34 and Men 18-49 for the day.
“The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights” live finale was the third most-watched UFC fight card ever.
Roy “Big Country” Nelson was named “The Ultimate Fighter” after knocking out Brendan Schaub with a devastating right hand to the head in the first round of their main event bout. Earlier in the night, Slice won a unanimous three-round decision over Alexander for his first victory in the UFC.

Season 10 of Spike TV’s signature franchise, “The Ultimate Fighter,” was the most-watched ever for the series, bucking the common trend of a show’s ratings to erode over time. I totally agree that Dana is a hypocrite, but you know one thing that he definetely is not? An idiot. He would have to be a giant moron to pass up on Kimbo after seeing how many viewers he was able to bring to a third rate promotion like EliteXc. He may look like a jackass from a personality stand point, but from a business stand point picking up Kimbo was one of the best things the UFC has done in awhile. Not saying Kimbo is some incredible talent or anything like that, im just stating the obvious, "he puts asses in seats".

Dana is the face of the UFC and gets all the credit/criticism but Lorenzo is the CEO and the money man so he has a huge say in whats going on. That being said i'm not surprised at all about Kimbo staying in UFC. i'm more surprised that strikeforce didnt pursue him aggresively enough while he was a free agent.

In the near future look for the UFC to make even more bold and controversial decisions as it relates to promoting the sport or events. money talks bullsh!t walks.

Its a very good point as long as he can deliver at that top level, lets be honest, it doesnt look to great for him in terms of upside, I def see a couple more fights to sort of prove that he was given a shot but is not a UFC fighter, the UFC has cut way better fighters but they dont draw as much....once people see a couple loses ina row...it's hit the road Kimbo!!!
