Mir completely proved me wrong. I really, really didn't expect him to catch a renown striker in Kongo like that. He wasnt able to demonstrate much of his boxing, but maybe he really has greatly improved his stand up, fair play to the guy.
Why not? Heath Herring caught Kongo too and had him seriously wobbled. Kongo is a good striker, but let's be honest, his defence sucks about as hard as his gameplans.
Well he might have went a little far with the english comments but like you said he is just hyping the fights.
As for all the other shittalk it worked great. Kongo wouldn't even face Mir at the weigh ins and only when he actually had to before the fight. He was scared and Mir was in his head plain and simple.
Kongo is a classy guy props for not tapping but it's alsmot disrespuctful for Kongo to think he could do anything with Mir on the mat.
how does Mir beating just Kongo warrant a title shot?? seriously, that's why i never understood why this match was set up. Kongo is obv leagues behind the top HWs (to anybody paying attention at least). What does this fight do for Mir?? It was a gift matchup that could only send him pummetting down the rankings and not move him up one bit imo. Mir vs JDS or Mir vs Cain is a must!!
If your in the top 5 you should NEVER face a guy way out of the rankings unless he is coming off a WIN over a top 10, Kongo was coming off a loss to another non ranked at the time, silly fight, easy pick, result as expected, where do we go now??
he didnt earn any respect from me from this fight,it didnt prove much ,90% of the people on here thought he was gonna sub kongo. but he does look like hes geting better.
Actually from this fight, you can't really tell if he has improved or not, because he couln't show anything! He did hit Kongo with a beautiful shot, at HW everybody falls to the map after such a punch. (And the weird thing actually is, that Kongo wasn't out after this hit). And that he could sub guys in this position was nothing new to me.
I'm eating crow, he took out CK without any damage to himself and he looks healthier than ever before, even more so than in 2003 grappling with Roy Nelson.
I really disliked his COD: Modern Warfare 2 commercial and his demeanor entering the cage. But after the win and seeing his demeanor didn't change just proved to me he believes in himself entirely and hell that's what makes a good fighter great.
He deffinetly looked better.
But he needs to fight better competition in order to realy proove he has taken a big step forward. Maybe his next fight, wich most likely will be vs Carwin, will show isf he has stepped up a level.
He still looked to cocky, maybe he thaught he had the reason to do so. I don't think so.
Improvement in his fighting. Yes.
In his attitude. Not realy.
I hope he gets to fight a healthy Brock asap.
I rarely buy into the pre-fight hype or shittalking so that was of little concern to me. I thought Mir would get KO'd if he tried to stand with Kongo. Clearly Mir isn't the one-dimensional fighter he once was, like him or hate him he is improving at a solid rate.
A Brock/Mir rematch can't be talked about too much since Brock is still recovering from his illness/surgery and is nowhere near in fighting shape. I am not very knowledgeable in diverticulitis but i know Brock had it bad so i wonder just how long it will take for him to fight again.
Well Mir's 1st fight he was embraced as well, just not in a cool fashion, I think we all know Rogan meant the beef was settled....they shook and respected each other, we just didn't get to see it, so thats why Joe said it, i know cuz I was curious to see if they would and they never showed it...
