Hello!

I am interested in training for mma and possibly competing. I do not know very much about this sport. I am a very good athlete and do have a little martial arts training. This forum has already told me about the best arts to develop (BJJ and muay thai). Maybe you guys can help me again.

Could you tell me what kind of opportunities in this sport there are for an athlete like me? Best places to train? Best people to train under? Are there training camp programs for summer, etc.? Sponsorship? Maybe you guys can hook me up with some good connections.

Quick athletic stats:
Body Weight: 130 lbs
Bench Press: 290 lbs
5k: 15 minutes
Also, I have won some wrestling and submission grappling tournaments

Thanks for your feedback

I'm having a tough time believing your stats, but that's just me. Being only 130lbs and being able to bench almost 290 pounds is pretty much unheard of and to be thin enough to run 5k in 15 minutes?

this is an old goddamn troll i remember him from like a year or so ago.

gtfo you sir are full of crap :)

edit:

yup

126 lb body weight, 300lb bench press, cross country runner..do i need anything else?
I've developed into a 126lb body weight, 290lb bench pressing, decent cross country running/sprinting athlete. I have a little grappling and wrestling background from high school. I'm thinking about getting into mma. I think my fitness is good, but I'm asking you all to see how I compare for sure. Is my shape good enough to be very good at mma?

How much strength and endurance do the top fighters have?

I don't know a thing about run times or what is a good weight to lift, but I do know a few things about fighting in mma.
If you have a good amount of strength and more importantly cardio it's possible you could do well, "PROVIDED" you train well on the ground and standup fighting techniques.
You could be able to bench press a rhino, and run a marathon, but if you have crap technique and can't take a hit, your going nowhere in mma.
But, having great fitness is a good basis to start in almost any sport.
Training depends where you live really, try to find if there are any pro fighters that teach/train there, and if you know the persons name but haven't heard of them try typing it into sherdog.com, as chances are if they're reasonably well known mma fighters they'll be on there and you can gauge what sort of level they're at, so your skill set will improve quicker as you'll be learning from better guys.
If you pm me your reply, or on here i'll help you out as much as poss, as i've previously trained/mates have trained in Holland,Thailand,Japan, uk and usa and have a fair idea of decent trainers/gyms etc.
Good luck bud

A good bench press is fairly irrelevant to MMA... but as someone said, you would have the national record. It took me like 4 solid years of lifting to get my press up above 300 and I've got like 80 pounds on you. Post a video and I'm sure people will be a lot more responsive. Matt Hughes at his prime (from his biography) said he was putting up 305...

I think knowing the guys height would be relevent to the bench press (even though that isn't to relevent to MMA). My brother could bench 300lbs (2 reps) when he was just under 150lbs. He was mostly muscle but he could of been a little lighter without losing strength. Thing is hes only 5'3" so he could pack on a ton of muscle without actually weighing much. I don't know how fast he could run, but he was fast. And he knew a guy that was a little lighter and a little stronger.

I know that some of you do not believe me for whatever reason, so would it be too much to ask of you to pretend that i'm telling the truth? That way I can get some answers. This is probably valuable information for any other aspiring athletes in this sport too. So you'd be doing good.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I don't care whether you believe me or not (what does it even matter, it doesn't affect your life either way).

I only want answers to my questions.
So, I said let's pretend. Let's pretend that there is a guy out there with those stats and with those questions and with those interests.

This is THE mma forum. Surely, this is one of the best places to find out information like what I'm asking, isnt it?
