new to the sport

im 5ft 9inch 170lbs 29yrs old. i do have a werstling background. any tips and advice on gear and stuff would be helpful

Don't buy cheap gear, be humble, ask a lot of questions, and focus on your standup due to your wrestling background. When rolling don't get overly aggressive with people that have experience or else you will walk into a lot of arm bars and triangles.

Most importantly, have fun.

im really torn im close to 2 gyms one is jermey horns place and the other is throwdown. body of work says go to jermey's place just not sure. my standup is the one area that i really want hit hard. i picked up some hand wraps,cup,mouth guard to start with sparring gloves and shin guards are next.

Based on his rep. a person could do alot worse than Horn's place. Try them both out for a week, check out the cleanliness of the places, training regimen, etc...

IMO since you're just starting out, pick the place that has the coaches you feel most comfortable with. It makes it alot easier to build a consistent training schedule and ask questions.

even though im still learning what is a desent amount of time to train before i try to go after my 1st fight 3months 6 months. I know a lot has to do with how fast i pick things up and how well im progressing. That 1st fight im only looking to do maybe a Amut event. whats your guys take

I would recommend at least 6 months. Thats just me though. I get sick of guys jumping into fights after 6 weeks of training thinking they are gonna rock the world.

Its really up to you. Judge how you are feeling and how well you are doing, then ask your coaches what they think. Heck talk to them next time you go in, tell them you want to fight and ask how long they think it will take to make you ready.

In the end only you can decide when you are ready.

something im having a hard time with. I cant figure out if im south paw or not. i do everything right handed but i find when boxing either stance feels normal. is it possiable that i dont have dominate stance and which back in forth? Also is that a bad thing?

You're right handed or traditional. Right foot forward feeling "normal" is because you haven't spent alot of time in the game yet. You're stance is really important. Literally everything works off of it. Mention this to your coaches and have them work with you on correcting it.
