Ive learned my lesson about jumping on a fighters hype train when it comes to this sport. There are two many examples of guys that were supposed to be the next great one and then fell victim to there own hype. ex. Vera, David Terrell, Dunham, Machida, just to name a few.

This.
I think JBJ is an awesome prospect who does have really good chances at becoming the UFC's LHW champion one day. But comparing him to Ali already? Give me a break.

Haters gon' hate.

From the first time i seen him fight against Stephan Bonnar, I said to myself, that kid is a future champion.

Jones is one of a kind I believe, a truly special fighter.

You can throw Vera's name out there or Machidas, but they didnt dominate their opponents quite the way Jones has been doing. Jones just absolutely wrecks any one that stands in front of him.

And when you consider that hes only been doing this for such a limited time and the fact that hes so young, its just ridiculous. Jones is going to be champ soon and he'll hold it for some time.

You are half right on this my friend! :)

He will be the HW champ one day!

But he will also be the LHW champion! He's seen my sig and because he's such a nice guy he wants to make my prediction happen! :D
Haha^^ :) We shall see what will happen ;)

Cain Velasquez vs Jon Jones. One word; WOW
Even Joe Rogan wants it :thumb02:

but Dana probably plays the killjoy again^^

Well Ali wasn't the greatest fighter of all-time in boxing, everyone knows that, including Ali himself, who said Ray Robinson was the greatest fighter of all time. Ali may be top 10. The reason he has such a legacy, was the era in which he fought, the Muslim stand, in a time Malcolm X was assasinated, changing his name from that given to him by his 'slave masters', in a time when Luther King was big, in addition to winning the gold medal at the Olympic and throwing it away, the stand against the Vietnam war and fighting in a golden age in the heavyweights at the time (Frazier, Foreman etc). It's the entire story, not that he was simply the best fighter. You can't create that, it just has to happen, external factors in life and your reaction to them.

This.

Everyone seems to automatically assume when someone says someone is the "next Ali" they mean that person will go on to be the GOAT. Whether Buffer meant it literally or not I don't know but Ali wasn't even top 3 all-time.

well to be fair he did say in the future he sees him as being the ali of mma

and the way he said it made it seem like he meant he would be the ali of mma because of his looks, his smile, his aura, he has charisma, i think he meant he would be the ali of mma in terms of charisma and getting ppl to notice him

and also because he will be a top guy:)

Let's not put all our eggs in one basket.

Is Jones good? Yes.
Does he have potential? Yes
Has he beaten anyone big? No.

I'm sorry but, victories over Vera and Matsyuchenko really aren't enough for me to call him 'The Next Muhammed Ali'. It's just Buffer hyping up a show. The kid has a bright future but, we can't be sure on how bright it may be. Things could turn out wrong, he hasn't done enough, in my opinion, to deserve such praise. It's basically saying that Bones will be the greatest fighter to ever live, that is a bit over zealous.

...Only time will tell. In other words, JBJ is gonna be the future P4P King? It's way too early to tell. Machida dominated, outclassed and went undefeated to grab the belt until he ran into Shogun. Jones most likely will beat Bader, but you never know. Bader has knockout power in both hands and Jon's chin has yet to really be tested. It seems pretty certain if Bones smashes through Ryan, he'll get a possible contender shot. He ragged on Thiago Silva about the Vera fight so that could very well be his next opponent. Without a doubt- if Thiago is next, he will be the biggest, most dangerous test to date for Bones...
