Mirko Cro Cop: "Brendan Schaub won't last three rounds with me."

"I still have even bigger competitive fire than before. Right now, I'm completely healthy and looking forward for the fight. He's good, he's young, hungry, but he's just a rookie in this sport. Brenden Schaub won't survive three rounds with me." -Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic

Coming off of a loss in what some viewed a lackluster performance against former UFC champion Frank Mir, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic has declared himself completely healthy and ready to put "rookie" Brendan Schaub in his place.

Schaub (8-1) is coming off of a huge win over heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga, who famously gave Cro Cop a taste of his own medicine at UFC 70 where he landed a head kick which floored the then highly regarded UFC heavyweight contender.

Since then, Cro Cop's career has been a mixed bag. He lost subsequent fights against top contenders such as Cheik Kongo, Junior dos Santos and the aforementioned Mir, but has gotten by lesser skilled opponents over that time frame including; Tatsuya Mizuno, Choi Hong-man, Mostapha Al-turk, Anthony Perosh and Pat Barry, which has kept him relevant in the division.

A win over Schaub could thrust him back into title contention, but at 36-years-old and the sport advancing at a breakneck pace, does Cro Cop have another run in him, or will another young lion capitalize off of his legendary name

I like Mirko as much as the next guy, but I think he's delusional at this point. I don't see anyway that he wins this fight. When was the last time he really put it to someone in the UFC? I think it's going to be another sad night of watching Mirko get beaten to the punch.

Lol I think it was a typo :p All fixed now.

Maaan I hope Cro Cop is right and he hits a thuuunderous left kick to geta KO victory.

i still think schaub is terrible, and even though cro cop isnt NEAR what he used to be i still think he can beat schaub

schaub will never be a TOP HW IMO...idk why so many ppl think he has so much potential, but hell..maybe im just being a dumbass and he will prove me wrong this fight

his win over gonzaga wasnt really impressive to me, i think even an old cro cop can take care of him, if he fights like he did against barry he can win

i think the mir fight he didnt really care, stepped in late just for the money, this fight he probably doesnt care much either but i doubt he will just accept the loss like he did against mir

how did he "accept the loss" against mir? it may have been a boring fight, possibly the MOST boring fight I have ever witnessed, but he didn't "accept the loss", Mir KO'd him hard.

ps. aside from that, I'm still not impressed with Schaub. I think Crocop still has what it takes to take him out.

I'll never believe in CC again. Sorry guys, he is dead to me. His never ending cycle of "the fire is reborn" followed by crappy performance (win or lose) followed by excuses is enough.

I think Grabriel broke him and Overeem crushed what was left of his spirit.

I disagree to a point, I compare Cro-cop to a Corvette with a novice driver: A total beast and capable of hanging with anything, but not the right driver.

If he came in trying to WIN like he did back in Pride, he'd be more than just a big name, he'd be relevant. BUT since he seems scared to engage and timid as hell he'll probably get KTFO'd :(

Bold 1. Cheick Kongo as a top contender is laughable. Unless they legalize low blows, he'll never break into the top ten.

Bold 2. Nothing short of the simultaneous demise of everyone else in the HW division will get CroCop back into title contention.

Bold 3. No.

the problem is now days it's hard to back Cro Cop in any fight, he just feels like a shot fighter.

Schaub is a hard fighter to really judge, whenever a fighter is early on in their career it's difficult to judge their potential (you would expect them to keep growing as fighters)

He has shown a vunerability already, he was KO'd it pretty heavy fashion by Nelson.

They say the last thing a fighters his his punch/power, Cro Cop's timing might be off compared with his prime and his ablity to slip and take a blow may have decreased but no doubt he still has knock out power in his hands and feet so by that notion against a fighter who is not (yet anyway) considered top draw you have to at least give him a punchers chance to win.

The problem is if you look to boxing for a perfect example, you can see the immensely talented but past his prime Roy Jones fighting Calazghe a few years back. In the first round Jones caught Joe with a perfect left hook which knocked the Welsh man down, Jones still had the punch right? but it days gone by that left hook would have been instantly followed by a right cross and another left hand (uppercut or hook) and Calzaghe would not have gotten up to win the fight as he did.

So I figure even if Crop Cop catches Schaub he might not have the reactions and quickness to capatilise on such a momment and he may still drop the decision.

I have to agree that a Schaub decision victory is the most likely, but I will not write Cro Cop off in this fight as I do believe he still has the ability to defeat this level of opponent.

Schaub won't need three rounds to finish Cro Cop, which sucks because Cro Cop's a good guy but watching the Mir fight any and every trace of the old Cro Cop was gone.

Maybe we'll get a novelty fight between him and Big Nog at Rio, but I don't see how Schaub loses, younger, faster, probably stronger, and clearly a lot more hungrier.

Schaub leaves him unconcious on the ground in the second.

Cro Cop died long time ago. Now we have only Mirko Filipović, nothing more - no spirit, no desire and no victories... Just look at the Barry fight which was all about knockdowns and hugs like they're long-time buddies or something. WTF? There's time for that after a fight. Unfortunately, Mirko has become too soft. The "battle" with Mir was also sad to watch.

Brendan Schaub is going to put the nail in the coffin in the myth Mirko Crocop.

Guy was the most over hyped signing in the UFC and proved to be a huge bust.

Brendan Schaub has just gotten better fight after fight, beaten better opponents each time. While this is a step down from Gonzaga he will be rewarded forever known as the guy that retired Crocop.

Much better striker, excellent takedowns, excellent camp. Nice knowing you Crocop.
