While many fighters threw strikes, they always didn't put so much thought behind them. Bas always made his strikes count. On his career DVD, he talks about watching a fighters breathing pattern before striking. That is just calculating. When Bas hit you, you knew it, and you were either clutching your liver or out cold.

My vote goes to Bas too, very versatile. I watched Pancrase fights that he ended with palm strikes. Today Mark Hunt has to be considered for the power he has in his hands and percision. Anderson Silva is the most versatile striker.
Who is the best striker ever? Interesting question... This one is going to get a wide variety of replies, but their is a plethora of deserving fighters in each sport that could contend. Let me offer this for your consideration:
Boxing: "Sugar" Ray Robinson was the archaetype for many modern boxers even before the advent of Ali's career. He was lightning quick, deadly accurate, had knockout power in both hands, and was very slippery when he needed to be. His total 202 professional fights garnered him a record of 175 Wins (108 by KO), 19 Losses, 6 Draws and 2 No Contests. He was one of the most prolific of Knock Out Artists in existance, and created a benchmark within the "Sweet Science" that many fighters aspire to attain. You can see some of his handiwork here.
Kick Boxing: Rob "The Dutchman" Kaman is considered by many as the greatest Kickboxer of all time. The Dutchman's professional career spans 19 years from 1980 to 1999. Over that time, he has amassed 112 fights over his career, with record of 98 Wins (78 by KO), 11 Losses, and 1 Draw. As a fighter he found himself in venues that spanned from the Holland, Thailand, the U.S., Japan and multiple other European countries. What made Kaman so great was that the man utilized all the offensive weapons he had available (in both his Kick Boxing and Muay Thai boughts), and was able to pick the appropriate combination to apply at a given moment. Even though he was known for his low kicks, he has won matches with virtually every conceivable technique which kept his opponents guessing (many times wrong). His list of defeated opponents is a "who's who" A-list of Kick Boxing/MT greats. You can sample his hanndiwork with this clip here.
As far as MMA goes... Well, the pool is very broad to choose from. But here are guys I would throw out there right off the top of my head:
in mma for me it has to be chuck liddell, not for his technique as such but for his pure knockout ability to finish fights, in boxing i'd go with tyson and in k1 i would go with the old skool andy hug and his awesome axe kicks.
Boxing-
KO power- Tyson/Forman
Overall- Ali/Robinson
K1-Kaman definitely
Present- Lebanner
MMA-
KO power-
Liddell, ends almost all his fights with KO.
Cro Cop he's good with his hands and his LHK is always a threat. I understand that he is a mid tier K1 fighter, but this isn't k1 it's mma and K1 fighters don't have to worry about the take down which adds a completely new dimension to it.

For the people saying Tyson for boxing, as far as power goes, I don't totally disagree, but you should also check out Ernie "The Acorn" Shavers. That man had a right rand that would make even Tyson's pale in comparison. Most of the all-time greats ducked him because of his vicious punching power. Muhammad Ali said himself that he had the hardest punch. Even Tyson refused to fight him when Shavers was over 40 years old because he feared Ernie's power. He had a suspect chin and sometimes poor cardio, but his punching power was scary. One of my favorite Ali quotes ever was about Shavers. "He hit me so hard, he shook my kinsmen back in Africa"
Edit: Here is a video of Lyle vs. Shaverspart 1 part 2
Shavers is in the blue. Lyle was such a freakin warrior too.
I dont know a thing about K1 so I can only speak for mma. I would have to say these three in no particular order:
Hunt because he has two grenade launchers for hands
Anderson Silva because he is probably the best technical striker out there

he took out some of the best K-1 had to offer Peter Aerts, Mark Hunt, Remy Bonjasky & Jerome Le Banner.... Sure he also lost to Hoost and MacDonald but shiiiiiiiiiit if youw atched K-1 you would understand everybody loses at some point in that sport... its very rare when you'll find someone who just completely dominates like Fedor does in MMA.
mark hunt is the best kickboxer in MMA at this point but i'd say CroCop is a close second but still behind Hunt since last time they fought CroCop lost and Mark hunt has actually won a K1 World Gp before
