Hey guys, I was just wondering whether kicks are important or not in MMA?

Even though I've been training in thai boxing for 2 years I'm still not a great kicker. I'm good with my hands because I've been boxing since I was 10 years old, and I'm also pretty good at throwing knees, elbows and fighting in the clinch. It's just kicks I suck at. Also I noticed when I did MMA sparring with my muay thai instructor I was able to take him down easily whenever he tried throwing a kick higher than my waist. So yeah, are kicks important?

Also, what's the best way to fight against someone who has decent kicks when you don't?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I wasn't sure how effective a leg kick could be if your in a quick street brawl that doesn't last long, at the same time though, I've never taken a brutal leg kick in a fight so I am not sure the effectiveness of said kick. But good to know, I need to get a little more flexible, so I can get my leg up to someones head. Best I can throw without going completely off balance is a kick to the shoulder. :(

leg kicks helps mix things up and keep the opponent guessing. a low leg kick may not be as deadly as a right hook to the jaw but it wears down the leg if continued and can take out the spring of the opponents leg making his movement less sharp.
Body kicks are very power and generates alot of power that can stun or knock out an opponent. The last roundhouse kick i remember in ufc is franklin vs hamil, and in terms of spinning heel kick, it was cung le vs...scott smith.
High leg kicks.. i dont need to say anyting bout that, just watch cropcop!
The vunlerable side of kicks are you can be taken down if you get your legs caught! :)
