attacking a counter-striker has not been that effective in the UFC. Machida-Jones will be a great fight and i personally would love to see another "Seagal" KO of the night!
Machida would have to jab and move for the full 5 rounds to grind a decision. He'd be hard to take down even for Jones because he keeps running backwards.
Why would he have to jab and move the whole fight? He could outstrike Jones quite easily for all we know.
Jones hasn't shown striking that would overcome Machida. He hurt Shogun with the opening knee but the real damage was on the floor, and then he was easy pickings for Jones. I still think his striking is a bit wild and all over the place to be that effective every time he gets in the cage.
Machida would outstrike him IMO, but he wouldn't need to move back to do it. He could land kicks, knees and punches to do it.
machida would likely get taken down as soon as he threw a kick. jones via GandP in the third round is what im thinking. machidas tdd has only been seen vs randy and tito ortiz......rampage took him down, altough it was off the cage and lead to no damage.
jones has good striking and proved it agianst shogun with a very varied attack.
