Keeping your distance, which is Machida's specialty, will be very hard to do against somebody who has the longest reach in the UFC. Jon Jones will push the pace with his superior athleticism and aggressively punish Machida the same way he did to Shogun and the same way Shogun did to Machida.

Machida for me, but I imagine it would be a close one.

It's amusing to me that people continue to buy into the God-like hype surrounding MMA fighters.

Jones would 'smash' Machida... sure.

Machida and Rashad are the two toughest tests for Jones, so I'll reserve some judgement until these fights happen.

Machida and Rashad both have attributes which Jones hasn't faced yet, not at that level. It will be interesting to see if one of these guys can crush the hype.

Jones has taken guys who have barely half the skills of Machida, to decision, so why all of a sudden is Machida easy pickings?

MMA hype - you've got to love it :thumb02:

What? Jon Jones has 2 decisions, and that was 2-3 years ago, and he's only been fighting since 2008. Why would you dig so far back on a fighter's record? Jones has destroyed all his recent opponents. I don't think anyone has any room to discredit Jon Jones by saying he's hype. You were saying the same type of things when he fought Shogun, and looked what happened with that...

What? Rashad got and Still has a title shot after only 2 lame decision wins, which he almost lost in the third, in both fights.

If that applys to Rashad.. why not too The Karate Kid, Cranke Kick Master?

I think Jones would have the advantage in this fight. His reach, his pure athleticism, and his awkward striking angles and strikes would give Machida some issues. I won't say Jones would smash Lyoto, but I think Jones gives Machida more problems than Machida gives Jones.
Jones has 3 years of striking experience.. he would be a fish out of water against The Dragon.

im impressed with jones but
lets face it he caught shogun the first strike..
that was the beginning of the end for shogun he was badly hurt.
shogun is a type of guy who will eat some strikes to posibly counter you

biggest attribute of jones is his wrestling and reach
i give machida the technique
machida maybe the most fast lhw fighter in the division

This would be Jones fight to lose. He has all the advantages he needs to beat Machida. I have been quick to point out Machida's wrestling as being under-rated in all of his previous match-ups, but in this one, Jones clearly has the advantage. If Jones wants he shouldn't have a problem taking this fight to the ground and keeping it there and punishing Machida like he has every other opponent. If the fight does get back to the feet he needs to discard his unorthodox striking and pepper Machida with leg kicks and clinch whenever Machida choses to engage.

My candid opinion is that Machida has one of the best chances to defeat JBJ. But JBJ is such a beast that I know he'll be heavily favoured. That's why I'm praying when that time comes Machida will be +300 or more. That's where I'll place a nice little bet on em.

I got Jones over everyone at 205 to be honest...he's just got such a great mixture of power and speed; any kick, elbow, weird whatever thing he does looks like it hurts even if it isn't on target.

Machida has the precision, and wisdom to beat Jones. Especialy since Jone's stand up is pretty weak, and Machida has amazing spacing.

Machidas style is bad for Jones.. I can see Lyoto winning this one by frusterating Jones and capitolizing on one of Jones's mistakes..

I think Machida's gameplan could be determinant, I mean, he can easily supress the reach advantage with his grapling, he could KO Jon Jones Thiago Silva's style! :thumb02: if he can land on top, wich Jones wouldn't make it a walk in the park to do, of course. Either way, Jones winning or Machida winning, the fight would be awesome.

I have a feeling Jones cardio will be a problem in this fight, he won't be able to take Machida down and he probably won't and even if he does for a few mins, Machida will pop back up and continuously pop in and out with shots. Finally Jones will get tired and frustrated and Machida will KO him.

Reach is nice obviously but shorter the arms the more power you can put in your punches, especially on the inside.

Jon Jones is smart and uses his reach to throw long punches and then elbows when fighters get close, Jon Jones is scary creative and this would be a amazing fight
