Creepy Joe: ‘"If the UFC Wants Me to Fight Melvin Guillard, then Let’s Do It"

Challenge extended.

And if the UFC wants it to happen, challenge accepted.

Just days after UFC lightweight title contender Melvin Guillard offered up the name of Joe Lauzon as a possible opponent so he could fight at UFC 136 in Houston, he has an answer.

Lauzon, appearing on MMAWeekly Radio, says that if the UFC wants that fight to happen, he’s more than willing to sign on the dotted line.

“Melvin’s saying he wants to fight me. Last week, I think Charles Oliveira’s saying he wants to fight me. I’ll fight whoever the UFC wants. If the UFC wants me to fight Melvin, then let’s do it. If the UFC wants me to fight Charles Oliveira, then let’s do it,” Lauzon said.

“I’m not too picky. I’ve never told the UFC ‘no I don’t want to fight.’ If they want me to fight someone, then I’ll do it.”

Lauzon is coming off a ‘Submission of the Night’ victory at UFC on Versus 4 over Curt Warburton in Pittsburgh, but not before knocking his British opponent down with some nasty stand-up.

The popular Boston area fighter has always been known as an exciting product in the Octagon and a match-up with Guillard could bring a major lightweight match-up to the show in Houston.

While Guillard’s mention of Lauzon’s name was done with respect, the two 155-pound fighters could have great potential for the card.

The UFC has yet to determine a main card for the Houston show, but more fights are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

If matchmaker Joe Silva offers up Melvin Guillard as an opponent, Lauzon has no problem accepting the fight for that show.

“I think with a proper training camp, things like that, I can game plan and be ready for anyone,” Lauzon said. “Whoever the UFC wants, I’m down. If they want Melvin, then let’s do it.”

Now it’s up to the UFC and the fans to decide if Melvin Guillard vs. Joe Lauzon is the match-up they want to see.
Now, IMO the unfortunate thing here is that J-Lau's getting more and more confident with his hands ... so he may make the stupid mistake of standing and trading with Guillard. However, to Lauzon's credit - he's not exactly a stupid fighter - so if he can really force this into a grappling fight, he may be able to get it to the ground and sub Melvin. Or of course, Guillard's athleticism and wrestling defense will allow him to keep Creepy-Joe at bay and KO him in round 1. Either way I like the sounds of this fight.

Joe doesnt have the best TD's and Melvin's TDD is top notch. Joe doesn't normally have that one punch KO power and he isn't fast enough to land more than one shot on Melvin. I think he has to work on his TD's and the speed of his shot, cause Melvin's short knees are looking scary and with Joe's slow TD's Melvin will see it coming a mile away.

I say Melvin by TKO started by a Knee he takes going for a shot.

Joe is a scrapper, and all around talent. Dunno how far he would go in this division as it is pretty stacked but he is always an exciting fighter. I see the Melvin fight going the same way as the Stevens fight, only think is Melvin is alot more athletic. If Joe can mix it up I think he would have a decent chance of winning if he doesn't get knocked out first.

I have given up predicting Lauzon fights a long time ago, the guy has glimpses of greatness surrounded by glimpses of being mediocre. Always cheer for the guy though he seems like a truly genuine guy and never plays the tough guy act.

As a Lauzon fan, I'd love to see this. The pace would surely be explosive, and I could see it ending in the first most likely.

Nobody starts faster than Joe, it'd be cool to see how Melvin reacted and responded to that....
