“First of all I want to say congratulations to Chael Sonnen. He obviously did enough in the judges eyes to win the fight so congratulations to Chael.
Personally I think I won the first two rounds. I think there is no question he won the third round, although if I had another round I probably would have stopped him.
He even said to me after the fight before the decision was announced, he said, ‘What do you think Mike?” And I said honestly I think I got the first two rounds and he said, ‘I think you might be right.’ But as I said, it was a good fight, competitive, congratulation to Chael Sonnen. He did enough in the eyes of the judges to win the fight.”
The recent quote was stated just moments ago during the UFC on FUEL TV post-fight special. According to Bisping he believes he won and so does his opponent Chael Sonnen.
I agree. I still think Sonnen took it, but if Bisping had been given the nod I wouldn't be surprised either. Nice to see the mutual respect being given!
Have you seen the post conference after his fight with Anderson Silva??? its some of the best Chael material out there. Its what made me a huge fan tbh.
I would be very surprised if he didn't win his next fight and get a shot off of that win (maybe the Belfort/Silva winner?, or Munoz when he's healed up?)
He showed great wrestling defense and scrambles, I had forgotten he was such a good counter wrestler. And his stand up looked as good as it always does.
Its odd that there's so much praise in a post about a fighter who I really don't like.

I am w/ you, I didnt really expect him to have an answer at all for Sonnen's wrestling/control/pace but Bisping proved me wrong. The guy is legit and if they were to fight again I would pick him to win. Having said that, Sonnen/Silva is the better fight, A.Silva is a horrible match-up for Bisping stylistically and could really see him getting KTFO if that fight were to happen.....
Even if he didnt admit that I am so tired of people bringing up injured ribs; when he got into the octagon (assuming he was injured b/4 hand) then he agreed it wasnt an issue and would not use it as an excuse. Having said that, I do believe A.Silva will win the rematch b/c he will be more agressive this time instead of letting Sonnen take the fight to him.....
Must say that Bisping has handled this with class to be fair. He fought a LOT better than I thought he would against Sonnen, who is a genuinely tough match up for him.
But if Sonnen struggled against Bisping, is he likely to struggle against Silva 2nd time round???
Anderson had a rib injury going into the first Chael fight and the second fight in Brazil will have Sonnen getting his ass kicked by Silva. It won't be pretty but Anderson will KO Chael in the 1st or 2nd round easily.
Chael will talk this fight up to no end but Anderson will make it laughable in the end.
I was thinking and wanting Chael to win but after the fight was over I was pretty sure Bisping won the fight 29-28. I don't care for Bisping much but he did good and I think he shoulda got the victory. Good fight anyways :thumb03:
I was really suprised with bisping, I thought this fight was gonna look like Chael v Stann and Chael vs redhead and I wanted it to. About 3 mins into the fight I was shocked and knew bisping was gonna win, midpoint of round 2 pretty much confirmed it, Chael was completely demoralized and tired but bisping was pumped with confidence and endurance, not to mention he didn't have much time to prepair for this fight.
I can't beleive im saying it but Im a fan of bisping after tonight, He did what he said 'If I get taken down he wont be able to hold me down' and he did! He was humble in defeat even though he won IMO.
I think a rematch is a MUST, maybe not an instant rematch but hopefully soon. After this fight I think I'd rather see bisping v silva than chaels rematch.
You guys know whats interesting??? I think Brian Stann would beat Bisping. I think Bispings Kryptonite are the Hendersons,Wanderlei,Stann. He just doesnt do well with people who are skilled and have massive knockout power. Bispings style is actually a very good matchup against the likes of Chael. If Bisping went up against Brian Stann i would put my money on Stann. Possibly the worst matchup for Bisping would be Mark Munoz. Strong wrestler who has his own bomb in his hands and ground and pound.
That should be the next matchup (Bisping vs Stann). They both just lost to Chael so i dont see why not. If Bisping does better against people with Stanns style then we know he has improved his weaknesses.
I missed most of the fight, but if it's true that Bisping was the better technician in the first two rounds, then this reeks of a political "decision."
Chael vs. Anderson was and is the marketable fight; everyone knew this. I remember when Oscar De La Hoya moved up a weight class and fought a "tune up" before getting Bernard Hopkins.
His tune up opponent literally ran him over; Oscar's pillow fluff punches did about as much damage as q tips being thrown at a brick wall. But guess who got the "W?" That's right, the golden boy.
I'm surprised fight fixing has taken so long to rear it's ugly head in MMA.

This was a close fight and ANYONE that knows how the Scoring system works knows that Chael Sonnen won that fight. I very easiley give Rounds 1 and 3 to Chael Sonnen and round 2 to Bisping. To make the statements that you made in your post is not only baseless but also ignorant.
I agree. I don't think there's any question that Chael won this fight on take-downs but 30 - 27 from that first judge was ridiculous and it certainly doesn't reflect that Chael eked out that win.
People need to seriously stop using this fight as an indicator for Silva vs Sonnen 2. Bisping is very hard to takedown and displayed excellent improvement in his defense. Silva on the other hand has been taken down by Franklin (in the second fight I think), Nate, Hendo, Lutter, Vitor, and Sonnen at will. Its laughable to think that Silva will be able to magically defend the TD so well. Sonnen didn't look awful, Bisping looked much better than anyone could have expected and thus blinded everyone's vision.
Good fight by Bisping regardless the fact that Sonnen looked like shit. Proved that Bisping can handle some pressure and stick with the big guys.
