speed kicks w/partner, 6 30 second rounds kingeti/roundhouse
stations: heavy bag, more pad work w/sprints up & down the gym, 3-minute drill of 2 pushups, back slap out, 2 sit ups, front kicks on the wavemaster

no bag gloves or hand wraps during pad work so my knuckles get conditioned

Mon 2-20: 3 mile run, 6 3-min rounds jump rope
Tue: MT was some clinch work, checking kicks, and a shitload of pad work. I was hurting by the end of class.
Wed: rested
Thur: I HATE having to miss a workout because of a wonky split shift work schedule. I'd also like this 2nd job schedule to become somewhat regular, because at the moment it's stopping me working my other job. MT tonight.
EDIT: MT was about 1 hour 15 min of its customary straight cardio and tabata drills. The only problem I have with this class is that it isn't 4x a week instead of 2.
Fri, Sat, Sun: rested

Mon: BJJ was Margarita pass and a few other guard passes, but as always, I learned the most rolling live. I'm told I'm moving much better on my back, which is good because sometimes if I'm pinned by someone who outweighs me by 100 lb, I get a little scared. Then I went to my other gym and ran 3 miles. My favorite technique that I've learned recently is still can opener, though.
Tue: MT tonight. I was such a lazyass all weekend partly because I was a lazyass and am coming off 4 weeks of 30+ hours working, (a lot for me because I'm the only one who does anything around our house) and because everything was still hurting from the extremely intense MT class last Thur. That doesn't usually happen to me, at least not to that extent, so I figured I'd better rest. EDIT: MT tonight was a round kick clinic. The kru set a goal of 500 kicks, and we exceeded it by about 75, by my count, in 90 minutes, combined with a lot of combinations on the bag and in partner pad work. Two of the students are preparing to fight this Saturday, so I'm looking forward to an intense Thursday workout as well. It'll be interesting to see how I perform, if at all, in my run tomorrow afternoon between work appointments.

Last night was the first night in weeks that I didn't have a drink. Tonight I had one, because as I've already said in a couple of places, it's impossible to watch Justified without some Kentucky bourbon.

Wed: Split shift at work. My schedule is somewhat more regular, but IDK if that's the shape of things to come. I had about 40 min at home till I had to go to the next appointment, with driving kids all around. My husband is in Vegas for work and I've been doing all the chauffeuring.

Thur: MT was ******* exhausting nonstop pad and bag work, and fun as shit, as always.
Fri, Sat: rested
Sun: 3 mile run

Mon 3-12: 3 mile run, 15 min jump rope.
Tue: MT
Wed: BJJ was a lot of live rolling. Two of my partners are kids who I don't think know their own strength, but are still uncoordinated enough that I can catch them in various things that are highly entertaining, and they're always a sport about it.
Thur: MT
Fri: rested
Sat: 3 mile run
Sun: rested

As you can see, the last couple of weeks were slightly insane due to my attempting to work two jobs, with which I had some success, and hopefully made enough money to pay for MT, BJJ, the gi I've been lusting after for over a year, etc. I'd also really like to take the occasional judo class, because as I've said before, I miss it a lot. My gym has expanded to include people who have trained regularly with Renzo Gracie, as well as Carlson and de la Riva, so there's a lot of fascinating information exchange going on.

Mon 3-19: AM BJJ. Watched the MMA types work standup and GnP while we rolled all sportsmanlike on the other half of the stylin Swain mats. I'm working on making the breakdance/shoulder roll transition smoother and faster, because I know I have the foundations for a good guard game with my long legs. My teacher was nice enough to let me get my hooks in, take his back and RNC him. I said, I can see that that was a gift, and don't think it went unappreciated.

Tue: MT tonight. It was a ton of knees. It got hot as shit in there and I thought my partner was going to drop. I loooove skip knee and curve knee. She dropped her pads and I accidentally kneed her in the chest. Sorry about that thar.

Wed: BJJ was guard passes including escrima pass, and a fair amount of rolling. It got really hot so toward the end of class I bitched out and changed into my nogi rig.

Thur: MT. Drinking diet rockstar b/c I think I got a mild version of the stomach bug that seems to have been going around, also because it does work as a bump of sorts. I want to try to work with a challenging partner tonight; after all, I try to be a challenge or at least a superb feeder for whoever I work with.

Fri: rested. I work 6 AM- 2:30 PM most Fridays, so that tends to be my do nothing day.

Sat: 3 mile run, 5 3 min rounds jump rope.

Sun: rested

Mon 3-26: AM BJJ was triangle drills and triangle from spider guard, which I loved, plus a lot of live rolling, where I seem to learn the most. PM 4 mile run. My BJJ gym is in the process of changing its affiliation, thereby changing my lineage as follows: Mitsuyo Maeda > Carlos Gracie Sr. > Carlson Gracie Sr. > Julio "Foca" Fernandez > Kinetix Combat Sports > swpthleg.
Tue: MT
Wed: 3 mile run
Thur: MT. Thursdays are conditioning, and while I wish we'd condition equally on both days, Thursdays are incredibly fun. There are a lot of new people in the class (aka wrestlers learning to strike or women who are new exercisers) and it's an interesting mix.
Fri: rested
Sat: rested
Sun: 3 mile run

Mon. AM BJJ, then 30 min stepmill.
Tue: MT. I got there late because of work and there was so much talking, it was hard for me as a nonvisual learner to shut up and respect the kru during all the talking. It was awesome when I finally got to do pad and bag work for 40 minutes.
Wed: 3 mile run
Thu: MT was much more intense, fortunately.
Fri: rested
Sat: rested
Sun: 3 mile run

For the first time in years, I haven't documented a week because I simply can't remember, but I know I had Mon AM BJJ last week, Tue and Thur MT, didn't do anything Saturday, and ran 3 miles on Sunday. I lost my Wednesday workout due to being a hungover idiot.

Top of the page, bitches!
Mon: 3 mile run, some bag drills, got a good stretch. I often forget to stretch after I work out, which is just as helpful as stretching beforehand.
Tue: Doubled up workouts because I thought MT would be weak on cardio, as it sometimes is on Tuesdays. Fortunately I was wrong. 20 min stepmill at the dojo where I used to train judo and hope to again, then pad work with some HS girls who showed up. Jump rope, heavy bag drills and more pad work at MT, then the owner's sister in law tested for her shorts. I like her a lot but I was so pissed off because I've been outperforming her for 5 months (ie the kru has me school the new people just like the guys who've been with him for years and had several ammy fights). Still mad. He had me corner her, which I've never seen him do in a shorts test, probably in an effort to keep me from getting pissed off by the nepotism, but it didn't work.
Wed: rested
Thur: Doubled up again. Worked my ass off in MT because I'm still pissed.
Fri: rested. So excited for no 6 AM work next week.
Sat: Nogi. I worked the most in pass the guard drills, which are my favorite. I love seeing who is hurt by my pointy elbow drilling into the inside of their leg and who isn't. I got subbed by someone who trained with Renzo and said "Omofuckinplata!" and everybody busted out laughing. You know how the nickname your BJJ instructor gives you usually turns out to be the one that sticks? Probably because I so clearly want to be badass, my teacher has started calling me Sophimus Maximus.

Back at the top of the page, bitches!
Mon 4-23: 3 mile run, kata (because sometimes I kind of miss them. Go ahead and judge) and jump rope.
Tue: MT was various kick, knee and hands drills with no annoying plyo which is fine with me. We ended with a lengthy boxing combination.
Wed: AM BJJ I'll go into tomorrow, then after work 30 min stepmill and about 15 min jump rope with 3 90 second breaks. I tried to mix it up with double scotch and double foot and other crap that made me work harder. EDIT: AM BJJ was knee on belly transitions, pulling guard to side control, and gi chokes.
Thur: MT was brutal and super awesome stations. I'm achy in the best way.
Fri: I forget what I did.
Sat: Hugus seminar. A lot of stuff from side control. It was great to train with a woman again.
Sun: rested

Mon: 3 mile run snuck in between clients
Tue: MT. Fun with a lot of boxing.
Wed: 1.3 mile run, 7 min stepmill, 20 min bike. Recovering from an upper respiratory thing that my daughter had.
Thur: MT more intense and super awesome and threw a lot of knees and boxing combinations.
Fri: Jump rope in the ring, again very fast in between clients.
Sat: rested
Sun: rested

#323 ·
Mon: moar jump rope.
Tue: MT had a bunch of actual cardio instead of all the talkin. My kru has trained pros for 20+ years, trained and traveled all over the world and he is the shit, but I'm not a visual learner and I can only watch and listen to talking about technique for so long.
Wed: stepmill, jump rope, PM BJJ.
Thur: MT just like I like it, sweating buckets and every muscle hurting and my kru in my face saying "Relax. Pay attention" because I was getting all hyper and that helped to ground me.
fri: Just lifted. What a f8cking waste of time. My strength and capability is exactly where it was. Clearly I stay strong doing my other workouts without wasting time flexing in a mirror.

#324 ·
Mon 5-21: stepmill and lifted. Lifting still feels like a waste of time.
Tue: MT was a bunch of kick drills, including chop kick and drive kick.
Wed: AM BJJ, then 2 mile run and lifted. I think I'm going to stop lifting. Maybe I'm just too impatient to wait for the benefits.
Thur: MT was intense and incredibly fun with pad and bag drills, jump rope and I got to stay for the advanced class where we did clinch work. I love the plum.

Two week brain cramp

I"ve been in the gym quite a bit the past few weeks, also working and gardening (I like to grow flowarz almost as much as I like hitting people and trying to take their back and choke them out.) I haven't run much, but I've been on the stepmill and jumping rope when I'm not rolling or doing a ton of pad work and as with last night, boxing drills for MT.

Wed 6/6 - about 23 min jump rope total
Tomorrow I'm working in the PM, then MT.
Fri: 3 mile run
Sat: rested
Sun: rested

Mon 6/11 - Didn't work out. My friend lost her 3-month-old daughter to what was most likely SIDS, and I went to the funeral and then worked.
Tue: MT was stations. We did 9 and we're going to work up to 25. I stayed for challenging, painful and rewarding clinch drills.
Wed: AM and PM BJJ. Usual warmups and guard passing drills, lots of live rolling, we looked at executioner's choke and straight armbar.
Thur: MT was slightly more intense and we did 14 stations. My kru is preparing for Ajarn Chai's Oregon camp, and some of the guys are fighting at the end of the month, so we're working hard.
Fri: AM BJJ was nogi which is disgusting if people haven't done their laundry. Not sure if I'm going to work out this PM before work or not.

#327 ·
We've been adding more stations in MT and my kru has gone to Oregon MT camp. I'm still hoping to compete in August. I haven't decided on gi or nogi. I have another girl partner and I have her little fingermarks all over my upper arms, cos she rolls with her bf, and I don't get to train with women nearly as much as I'd like, and we got a little excited and were giggling and trying to sweep each other while the guys all had their war faces on. Three guys have ammy fights in Mansfield, OH tomorrow night, and they were at the gym this AM looking nervous as shite and very hungry.

Mon 7-09: Slept through BJJ (My Sundays tend to be long and somewhat draining) and had to do dumb errands, some of which I didn't even get to because of lame long line at post office, and didn't get the cardio I usually fit in between shifts on Mondays. LAME LAME LAME.
Tue: MT was a good mix of cardio and technique, ending with drilling the 15 count back and forth except with both partners wearing gloves rather than one with thai pads and one with gloves. That was great. My teacher is back from NW Thai camp and I'm sure will put the hurt on us on Thur.
Wed: AM BJJ was a couple of sweeps, one armbar and a ton of live rolling. It was great b/c I had one of my girl partners, who is extremely strong. Her BF is teaching her, but not much, because he prob. likes punking on her, so we were drilling americana, kimura, and kimura sweep, also a mount escape and a back escape.
Thur: Missed first 1/2 hour of MT due to work scheduling me one Tue or Thur each week till 6:15. It was bag and pad work and shadowboxing drills. TBH I have never had an instructor leave class for two weeks and I know a few people got fed up and are giving it a break for awhile. I'm not one of them, though.
Fri: Open mat. Hit the bag a little, rolled a little, didn't work as much as I would have liked. It blows that this gym is too small for and doesn't have any cardio equipment.
Sat: rested
Sun: rested. Just the tiniest bit tired because I had a few drinks and ran around doing laundry until 2:00 AM.

The past few weeks I've been going regularly to MT and BJJ, but I don't feel I'm getting enough cardio (for stress relief and to make me stronger in MT).

Mon. 7/23: I didn't work out b/c we were out of town to take older swplet to look at a college.
Tue: MT "technical Tuesday" where we sometimes work, but we didn't do shit for cardio today.
Wed: BJJ, guard passing, drilled a few sweeps, (pendulum and scissor) but the guys were all having bromances with each other and I didn't get to roll. BOOOO
Thur: MT tonight. Hopefully we'll work more. I haven't been to my other gym much because insurance company still has not sent the flex plan check that they were to have had to me by yesterday. I'm calling them right now.
Fri: BJJ, pretty much the same as Fri.
Sat: 2 mile dog walk
Sun: 2 mile dog walk

#330 ·
Mon 7/30: Gi BJJ and I truly cannot remember what we did.
Tue: MT, fortunately the khru didn't go overboard on "technical tuesday" and we worked, mostly on mat khatoun, which looks like an overhand hook to me.
Wed: BJJ was de la Riva guard and sweeps from same. No check from insurance company yet. F8ckers.
Thur: MT tonight. I've been taking my dog on long walks every evening as well, more for him than for me, but we both love them.

The last couple of weeks are a blur due to working a lot, but I missed one thai class because I was fed up and in a shitty mood that day.

I also didn't get to train BJJ this week at all due to staying up late, sleeping in like an idiot, and trying to not be so disgusted by the guy who always stinks. (The same guy who rolls some days in a karate gi that I would tear the shit out of if I was strong enough.)

I am more than ready to test for shorts, but I'm not going to bring it up with my instructor. I'm planning on going to a seminar Sep. 8 in Buffalo with another woman from class, and hopefully more will go. I haven't told L&M yet because he'll probably be pissed.

#332 ·
The last couple of weeks I have rolled 2-3x a week and trained MT twice a week. My work schedule has been different every single week. I still walk my dog, but I'm concerned that running, hands down my favorite form of cardio, has fallen by the wayside a bit. I will be doing my best to remedy that. My department manager knows that I plan on substitute teaching in addition to this job, and hopefully my schedule will regulate accordingly, as it did last year.

One of the judoka I used to train with is now taking classes at my BJJ gym to step up her newaza. She is about a year younger than older swplet and a beast. It's great fun to train with her and she is not at all afraid to wreck me, which generally helps me improve.

I have paid and registered for the Sattrachan Surachai Sirisute (Ajarn Chai) seminar in Buffalo this coming Saturday and I'm excited as sh!t.

#333 · (Edited)
Sat 9-8: 6 hour seminar with Ajarn Chai, where we drilled primarily footwork, teep, combinations and elbows. The elbows were fun as shit and Ajarn Chai is one of those people wherein when he walks into the room, everybody's in awe because of the living legend aura all around him

Didn't work out Sunday or Monday.

Tuesday MT, fortunately not technical Tuesday and we put in a lot of work because a couple of guys are preparing for amateur fights. More elbows, pad and bag work, no jump rope. I never thought I'd miss jump rope, but I did.

Wed: No workout due to split shift from hell that I devoutly hope will go away soon.

I'm progressing in BJJ, but I found out that Foca Fernandez (Carlson Gracie Sr. black belt and head of my gym's affiliate in Vermont) is coming next month and I'd love to be ready to be evaluated re: another stripe, so I have to start rolling more than twice a week. Now that I can defend against heelhooks and possibly unleash them myself, I'm not as intimidated by rolling with the nogi guys. We rarely use heelhooks in gi classes.

Hallo b!tches. After a craptacular week for BJJ (Monday morning class canceled b/c the instructor for that class is a SWAT guy and some asshole shut himself in a house with a shotgun, working Wednesday morning, Fri AM open mat canceled due to upcoming ammy fights) and a decent one for MT, and a sinus with pounding headaches type of things, I'm back at it.

Mon: AM BJJ was north/south escape and a pass similar to a butterfly guard pass I'd drilled where you rocket your legs straight up into the air and land the outside leg first. At no time has this pass been effective for me re: butterfly guard; maybe it'll work for other open guard. We also worked a mount escape and what I think was can opener (so much fun with the gi collar) and then sparred and both girls wrecked me. I think I'm still dragging from the congestion affecting my sleep. I found out that the Foca seminar is the same day as a college open house older swplet wants to go to. I'm going to try the "IDK if the puppy should be alone with the big dog for that long" excuse and try to get out of it so I can go to the seminar, as sometimes people get stripe or belt at same.

Tue: Thai was nearly all partner pad work, my very favorite thing. You called out the combination for your partner, and mine was skilled so I put together 4, 6 or 8 count combinations for him, and broke down the 15-count (one of the series of strikes we have to have memorized). Then we did a few speed kick and skip knee drills and I only had 9 knees less in the allotted time than the pro guy.

Wed: Worked 6 hours early as I customarily do on Wednesdays, and then I have no energy for anything else apart from housework and looking after the dogs the rest of the day. I can't wait till the new people my dept. hired get through the month-long training my work requires so I can get rid of this shift.

#335 ·
BJJ and thai are progressing, thai more quickly than BJJ as I don't have anywhere near sufficient technique to consistently evade/reverse people who are much bigger and stronger than me.

I went to a gi seminar conducted by Julio "Foca" Fernandez, a 6th degree black belt under Carlson Gracie Sr., which was a great learning opportunity and he even had a little bit of Portuglish sound in his fluent English, which was awesome.

#336 ·
I had a crap workout last night which was my own fault. My partner was not a good feeder but I should have been able to work around that.

BJJ this AM was great. I get a much better workout when there's a girl there.

The swplet's puppy got stepped on a week ago and he's almost ready to take long walks with me and his Malamute big brother again, which is good because I'm going to start turning them into interval runs to get my running mojo back up again.
