As expected, top welterweight contenders Johny Hendricks (13-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) and Martin Kampmann (20-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC) will meet in the co-main event of November's UFC 154 event.

UFC officials confirmed the long-rumored matchup on Tuesday's new edition of FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight."

UFC 154 takes place Nov. 17 at Bell Centre in Montreal, and a Georges St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit title unification is expected to serve as the main event.

The Hendricks vs. Kampmann fight is expected to serve a No. 1 contender contest, though things could certainly be shuffled if a rumored St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva superfight comes to fruition following UFC 154.

Hendricks claimed his top spot by besting Josh Koscheck at "UFC on FOX 3: Diaz vs. Miller," which brought his current win streak to four. Kampmann, meanwhile, continued a stunning career resurgence with a TKO of Jake Ellenberger at The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale this past June.

Both had reasonable claim to meet the winner of the title-unification bout planned for November. Now a clear contender should emerge from the crowd.

Why? What if Condit fought one of them and then there was another injury, further delaying a GSP fight. Give the guy a break. He went from fighting Penn, to fighting GSP, to fighting GSP again, to getting removed from the fight, to fighting and beating Diaz, to fighting Diaz again, and now this. He has handled it all like a pro and deserves to fight GSP. This Kampmann fight feels like an FX main event for some reason.

Rough fight to call for me really. Kampmans got more skill in more places and he could probably kickbox his way to a win. Thing is, he likes to get in striking battles sometimes and I can see Hendricks knocking him cold in a exchange if Kampman allows a lot of them.

I think Hendricks is capable of wrestling/grinding his way to a Stoppage er decision. Im not sure thats the gameplan he'll use. He likes to bang and has the power to stop kampman if he can get some shots on goal but I'm afraid he'll just chase Kampman around and get out pointed or stopped if he can't cut off the cage.

I'm going to take Kampman but he very well could get his head knocked off if he's not careful.

None, that's why they should just call it what it is the Bona fide title and tell the bastards they can't sit it out waiting for injured fighters.

Jens Pulver, greatest lightweight striker of all time, no seriously.

As much as Condit would deserve it, that would leave GSP without a fight when he's ready. Having said that, maybe GSP having a non title fight against another top 10 WW might be the perfect scenario for all parties involved. Give us an idea of where GSP's knee is at.

It'll nave happen though. GSP's comeback fight is going to be a money spinner. It has to be against whoever has the interim belt. Even if it isn't sensible.

The division is kinda weird atm. Condit should have fought someone, possibly one of those. Instead he sat out and these two are going at it, making one of them an unofficial contender. Meanwhile DW is talking about GSP-Anderson if he gets past Carlos..

I forgot about GSP/Anderson. Tbh that saves two divisions. To me, Weidman isn't good enough for the MW title and Hendricks isn't good enough for the WW title. That way we can have something like Belfort/Belcher Vs Weidman and Hendricks/Kampmann Vs BJ/Rory, whilst getting a superfight at the same time.

I love and hate this fight. I love it because these two are absolute studs and this could be a FOTY contender. I hate it because it is basically a title shot eliminator for one of these guys. A loss here means 2-3 more fights before getting a title shot, whereas the winner easily is the next #1 contender.

What Carlos is doing makes perfect sense. If I had a chance to fight GSP for the "Actual" belt, I'm not fighting anyone else. The only reason the interim belt exists is in when the real champion is out. But now the GSP is ready, it makes absolutely no sense to fight anyone else at this point. Fighting Hendricks/Kampmann will only prolong the interim title, which means two belts in one division.

It makes no sense whatsoever. It's not like he just got the belt and GSP is coming back soon. People are mad because Condit has been sitting on the interim for some time now doing nothing while other fighters have actually been fighting and making things happen.

Condit won the interim 6 months ago...

I still don't get why people wanted Condit to fight Hendricks or Kampmann. One fought in May, and the other in June. This fight probably would be taking place in September or October which would make GSP not fight until NEXT YEAR. Why would people want that? That would be like two years of GSP sitting out with the title...
