Bisping - "Dana and the company needed him and he basically bitched out"

"I've taken short-notice fights for the UFC a bunch of times, three or four times," he said. "I was told before weighing in for one fight that I was fighting again in six weeks. That wasn't a nice telephone call to make to my girlfriend, who'd just booked a holiday with the kids, I can assure you. But the UFC has provided me with a great lifestyle and I'm here for them.
"Jon Jones likes to talk about where he comes from, but the reason he now has a Bentley to wrap around a tree is because Dana White and the UFC have built this sport up from zero. Dana and the company needed him and he basically bitched out."

I knew Bisping said some things but iv never seen these comments. Must be pretty rough to hear such things from your peers. Its one thing to hear it from us. Its another thing to hear it from the people in the same profession as you.

(If these comments were posted then sorry. I didnt mean to post the same info.)

Come on now Mike. I'm surprised we can understand your ramblings with you nose shoved so deep up Dana ass.

In truth, Bisping has never held a belt. He's never been in the scenario Bones is in so his opinion counts for nothing. Silva. Edgar. JDS. etc. These guys opinions mean something.

It's difficult being the champ and not getting all Smeagol over the belt. It happened to GSP. Now its happening to Bones. Greg Jackson FTW.

Bisping is a fighter and is a fighter who steps up. Just cause he hasnt held the belt does not mean his opinion counts for nothing. OUR opinions count for nothing since we aint UFC fighters and we have never fought for the UFC. Bispings opinion comes from being a UFC fighter himself. A much more experienced UFC fighter at that. A Fighter who was in the same situation as Bones and he took the fight. And Chael Sonnen actually had a full training camp. In Jones situation Chael did not have a training camp and lets be real.. Jon Jones is bigger and badder and more skilled then Bisping EVER will be. So id say realistically Bispings opinion counts for ALOT.

All fighters are willing to step up on their way to the belt. I'm sure Bones would have taken any fight on 8 days notice before he actually got his title shot. That's the point I'm making. What Bisping is saying here may very well not be his opinion if he owned the belt and was making his 5th defence.

This is so obviously Bisping brown nosing Dana and the UFC. I cant be dealing with that.

Not all fighters. As we have seen many fighters turn down a title shot just recently.

And every Champion except Jones would have accepted the fight in that scenario. It would be foolish to think that Bisping would be any different. Hell i cant see any fighters in the upper echelon do what Jones did.

I think if you look at this a bit more realistically you would see the same thing.

And lets not be silly.. Jones didnt turn down a fight on 8 days notice. Jones had 3 months to prepare for a fight. Jones turned down a fight because of an opponent replacement and he wanted 3 more weeks to "prepare." as if 3 months wasnt enough preparation. Ofcourse Chael needs to be studied for 4 weeks since he has such a versatile style and all.

what a joke...

Wait i got it!!

Jones didnt train wrestling at all in his MIXED MARTIAL ARTS training camp. So he had to rub the cob webs off.

I've been pretty quiet around here about this whole situation. For whatever reason I felt the desire to comment on this.

First of all, to Soojoo... you're right to a certain degree... the other title holders certainly have a more VALID opinion of the situation. But just because he's yet to carry gold, that doesn't mean by any means that Bisping's thoughts are irrelevant. He IS a constant main eventer, and ultimately that's a status that sits just under championship status.

I personally think Jon Jones made a mistake. I also think Greg Jackson is to blame, or at least carries about 90% of it. I can't even imagine the amount of money he and his management team claims right now based on Jones alone... but I would be willing to wager that it's more than all of his other fighters combined! Point being, I can see why they wouldn't want to take any needless risks to put that in jeopardy.

This can all be summed up in one simple statement. You're either a business man or a TRUE fighter, obviously Jones and his camp are going business... and guess what, whether we like it or not, that's their porogative.

Jones has always struck me as the type who wants to be liked, but apparently that means nothing to him. If Brock Lesnar's time in the UFC taught us anything, it's that the most hated guy can draw even bigger numbers than the most loved. If Jones were in front of me, I'd tell him to embrace this backlash and run with it. His merch will still sell, his cards will always sell out, and his pay per view draws will likely become the biggest ever... just go with it kid!

But was it really a "good" business move??

Chael was an easy win and yet a credible win and Jones would probably have made millions of dollars. They also could have asked the UFC for more money. And i just cant see how pissing off the company you work for is good business. And if Jones loses on the 22nd he is in for a reallly high fall now.

I dont know man... i just dont see how this was a smart decision on ANY fronts.

But what the hell. Whats done is done. Jones lost the respect of may fans and fighters. If he is okay with that then that is all there is to it.

I am off to bed now though. It is 5:30am and i just really should not be up this late lol. Good night.

I may be coming of as a bit unreasonable... but like I said, I cant be dealing with brown nosing, which is exactly what Bisping is doing.

Ironically, Bones used to be a huge ass licker. I'm pretty sure he would have done anything the UFC asked of him before.

All in all... what a fecking mess.

But everything Bisping has said is true. I said before you can't blame the whole cancellation on Bones but the company and people that are largely responsible for making him a millionaire superstar have come to him and asked a favour of him and he has said no. It's up to him and the event didn't need to be cancelled because of it but that is pretty weak and bratty behaviour whatever way you look at it.

I have to agree with the opinion that Bisping has a better sight line to this than most of us. Granted he has yet to fight for a belt, however being a top ranked middleweight, taking a fight on short notice (like he did with Chael) could/did have adverse affects on his ability to fight for a title.

I understand Bones' point that he is a champ, and has to make sure he is prepared to the best of his ability. What I am trying to understand is for people to be mixed martial artists, who train in all discplines, who has had a full training camp and is in shape. How hard is it to watch video's on a guy who fights a weight class lower than you, who arguably has less knock out power, and has had the exact amount of time to prep as you did?

Jones at 24 years old would have really lost nothing, even if he lost the fight, except for his pride. Dana would grant him an instant rematch, where he would have tonnes of time to prep for, not to mention one of the biggest pay days in his career (because all he fights for now is money).

Nothing wrong with that. For people who say 'well now this is a sport', it always was one. In sports injuries happen, and trying to compare this to baseball or football is crazy. Its a mixed martial arts competition, plain and simple. Someone gets hurt, a replacement comes in. A 'pound for pound' champ should be prepared for all comers. This isn't a case of someone coming to the weigh in's and changing fighters. The guy has over a week to watch tape and go over strategy. Granted he will be losing weight and doing interviews, but he would be doing that anyway regardless of opponent.

This whole gearing a training camp for 1 fighter is understood as well. Chael a southpaw is different from Hendo. However, the styles to a Mixed Martial Artist is something they train full time for. It is hard to see the arguement that a person needs to train for a specific person, when a fighter of Bones' calibre does nothing else but train MMA.

Anyway, just my random thoughts. I still respect Bones' fighting ability, I have however lost any respect for him as a martial artist.

Say what you want but Bisping is a company man and does what is needed cause he shows his gratitude. I like Bisping more and more all the time.

I don't really see how expressing gratitude to a boss that has treated you pretty well is sucking up. Putting that aside, I am not a big Jon Jones fan, but I wasn't a hater either. I posted in a couple of threads that I thought it was unfair that many people complained how JJ came off as arrogant. That I attributed to his age, and the fact he is a UFC champ. How do you not be in that position and not be a bit high on yourself. I don't think you can achieve what he has without really believing in yourself. Some fighters can obviously handle it better than others, but again that goes to JJ's age.

All that being said, I really don't get how he could turn down this fight. He had already publicly stated he wasn't going to let Chael talk his way in to another title shot, and maybe his ego wouldn't let him take it. Like it or not Chael did talk himself into another title shot, just JJ wouldn't fight him. Now as pissed as Dana was he will probably make sure JJ fights Chael as soon as he can make it happen. I think JJ wins that fight easy, so why not make Chael get in there with no preparation so he can kick his ass proper. Now Chael is going to get a full camp. I think JJ still wins but he could have got him out the way much easier. Some people say Chael had nothing to lose, I disagree. If he got in there and got completely owned then I don't think he gets another shot at a title, unless Anderson Silva retires.

I don't think Jon Jones would have accepted the fight regardless of wether or not it was for the title. The title is a symbol for the best in your weight division. It doesn't make you the best, JUST a symbol. Had Chael faught Jones in a non title fight and won, we know that the new best would have been Sonnen and the symbol wouldnt have clouded the truth.

I bet Jones wishes he had taken the fight now. Stepping up would have gained him a few fans and it would have been a pretty damn easy fight for him. Putting the guy talking shit to him in his place, saving the 151 card, getting another title defence. Everything would have been great for him had he taken the fight. He'd have no doubt gained a few fans and would have been considered a "true champion". For someone that considers himself to be a businessman...damn he's a shit businessman.

I just dont see how they can be this hard on him when in just one year he is the most fighting champion (this fight with Vitor will make 4 DEFENSES)in the UFC over the past decade or so, maybe ever (dont have the time to research that far back). But cut this guy some slack, i mean he is the only champion I can recall to tell Dana lets get another fight. How quickly we forget, this is truely a what have you done for me "today" type crowd.

And so it should be. People can't just cruise by based on their popularity or their past. Why isn't Tim Sylvia fighting for the HW title instead of Cain? He's not done much latley but he's done more overall. Jones needs to rebuild. It'll be difficult but with exciting fights and impressive wins, no doubt he'll get his fans back. But when you let people down, you can expect them to turn on you.

I still have JBJ at #2 P4P. I'm sure DW has him in the same position, if not #1 over AS or #3 behind GSP. This stuff doesn't change his accomplishments, and if he does clean out the division (again?) and we forget about this stuff, then he has rose to the occassion and earned his fans back. What is your problem with that happening?

Man, Jones vs Sonnen would be a very interesting back up fight. Thats MMA. Jones could, on paper, make Sonnen a fool, but I don't see anybody controlling Sonnen on the ground at will.

As for the Vitor fight, well, again, in MMA anything can happen...I see only way Vitor will win: Guns blazing in a light speed sequence he is famous for.
