'Wild and crazy' Donald Cerrone defies UFC contract to pursue pro wakeboarding career

Pro wakeboarding hopeful Donald Cerrone is an extreme athlete
who won't be painted into a corner by the restrictions of his ZUFFA contract.
Will the powers-that-be at the UFC give "Cowboy" special consideration?

Nobody puts "Cowboy" in a corner! Sounds like Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight striker Donald Cerrone has some decisions to make as he ponders a future outside the cage. The good news is, he's already made up his mind about one thing: fighting Anthony Pettis now that "Showtime" is all patched up from shoulder surgery. Fighters are often bound by their ZUFFA contracts to avoid high-risk activities because, let's face it, it's hard enough staying healthy just doing your regular training, so why compound the problem? The injury bug doesn't seem to have bitten the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) standout just yet, but if it does, he may have a hard time getting his employers to pay for it with readily-available footage of him doing the Dew.

Maybe he could at least do it with some discretion? Not only is he gonna defy the UFC but he is gonna pretty much rub there nose in it. Not a good idea Cowboy cause your not championship material.

I'm on my phone so I don't know the story here. But I remember Dana a while back talking about how he can make a fighter give up nearly everything when a fight is scheduled.

Did the UFC ask him to give up his extreme sports while he has a fight scheduled?? That doesn't seem like its asking too much seeing as the amount of injuries we have as of late. If cerroney is upset at that then Il lose some respect for him... That's the norm in every other sport. But like I said I don't know the story here since I am on my phone so Il save my judgment until someone fills me in or I get home.

Love Cowboy but that's part of the job, especially when you're a fighter, the risk of injury is high enough.

I really am conflicted about this Pettis fight, I'm a huge fan of both guys. I almost don't want it to happen but it's gonna be a badass fight.

In comparison to Cerrone being kicked in the jaw by a horse and twisting his intestines to a point where they need to be untangled due to motorcross injury; wakeboarding is perfectly safe.

Maybe there is some chance for injury for those who go 30 mph and do a big triple front flip 10-15 feet over the water. But considering Cerrone looks like hes just learning and he's doing low impact stuff that beginners learn its pretty impossible to injure yourself.

By contrast skaters and rollerbladers do some of the same tricks wakeboarders do, main difference: concrete doesn't splash.

I think some of you may be vastly underestimating how difficult it is to incur Frank Mir level motorcycle injuries by falling into a body of water.
