Would you order a PPV? Tune in to the next free card?

  • Ugh, I'd rather watch reruns of "Glee."

If the most recent card had been your first, would you be likely to watch another?

OK, I may be alone on this, but I thought that top to bottom, this card was a horrible snoozefest. Browne vs Silva had the makings of a decent fight, but Browne blew his kneee and that was it.

So, how bad do you think it was, publicity-wise (and otherwise)?

I didn't even watch this card. Didn't watch the Struve one live either, d/l'd it like three days later.

I don't know if it's my interest waning or just the fact the cards aren't as interesting as they used to be.

I watched Jones vs Belfort live. But the only card in recent memory that had me going crazy like the old days was the all heavyweight card a while back which I thought was absolutely phenomenal.

Is there a bigger group of whiners than MMA fans?

Pretty bad when an entire card littered with stoppages gets shit on.

Was that on TV? Because I'm trying to focus on the publicity aspect.

And the problem was more than the shortness of the card. Burger/Hieron and Dodson/Da Silva were both really dull, IMO. Apart from Dodson (some of the time) and Jake's takedown they all seemed to be waiting for an opportunity, rather than trying to create opportunities.

Yes you can - just click "edit" below your OP and then "Go Advanced"

In there you'll be able to edit the thread/post title ;)

It's a strategic issue. Do you see the free cards as throw away cards where the fights that aren't quite good enough for PPV are dumped, or as cards that should be carefully picked to give people a taste that will have them coming back for more?

Assuming the latter, do you think this card did it's job?

If this was my first ever one, then yeah I'd watch it. I saw a dude who looks like an incan statue brutally KO another dude, that would be enough to keep me interested really. I wouldnt be rocketing out to buy the next PPV but I'd stay tuned for the next free card.

Edit: Lmao I almost word for word quoted a poll option.

Last night's card was horrible. Not a single good fight on the main card. But the preview for 153 was pretty sweet. Really highlighting Silva's matrix-esque moves and Bonnar's bloody wars. Honestly those highlights were better than anything on the main card. Hell the fight on the Ultimate Fighter was better than anything on the main card.

Seems the UFC agrees as only one of the "Of The Night" bonuses went to a main card fight. Justin Edwards for Sub of the Night. Both of the others went to Prelim fights. Michael Johnson for KO of the Night and Nunes/Bart for FOTN.

what? last nights card was awesome i had a blast, a lot of fun fights and 2 great comebacks...how could that card not turn you into a fan??

man MMA fans are becoming more and more like wrestling fans...i guess its because many are just cross-over fans and now instead of bitching about wrestling they bitch about MMA, i stopped going to wrestling forums because 90% of the shit ppl talk about is negative "oh this sucks, they should have done this, its not as good as it used to be...bla bla bla" MMA fans have gotten to that point where they pretty much just bitch about 90% of things, they want the "good old days back" but guess what? you guys will never stop watching...UFC has built that hardcore fansbase that even if they are unsatisfied they tune in, just like WWE

i miss the days when ppl actually enjoyed fights and created threads to break down a fight...that was fun... and not to whine about irrelevant crap, its become the cool thing on the internet to shit on the UFC and its getting boring IMO, MMA is doing just fine, their "fans" are the ones who need to take a step back and think about why they started watching in the 1st place

end rant/ :thumb02:

Looking at the main card I'd say yea, it wasn't that great. Browne injured his knee, Neer-Edwards ended too quick and Ellenberger-Hieron was meh. I skipped the flyweight fight so I don't know if it was good, nor do I care.

BUT, the prelims were amazing. Great from start to finish. If I looked at the card as a whole and not just the main card, I'd definitely comeback for more.

So several of you seem to think that the people who didn't enjoy those fights are whiners? So the logical reaction for you is to whine about them?

Listen. There can be stoppages in a fight and it still have been a bad fight. Gabriel Gonzaga/Kevin Jordan ended with a brutal ko but it was still a bad enough fight that Rich Franklin apologized for it after his fight. The first fight ended quickly but in impressive fashion. The second fight - the flyweights - was just boring. Fast paced circling with few instances of offense and the ko shot was wonky. It barely hit the other guy and it didn't hit anything vital. Hieron/Ellenberger was just flat out boring from beginning to end. Browne/Silva had an exciting end but it was marred by Browne jacking his knee up and Bigfoot winning.

Outside of the prelims what was entertaining about last night's card?

Any fight can be a good fight, any fight can be a bad fight. On paper this card was great, in reality it wasn't great but the reason I watch it is because it is REAL.

I love fighting. Browne blew his knee, that is a part of fighting. I remember my first MMA experiences and it was a mixed bag, it always will be, that is the beauty of MMA.

Negative fight strategies are more common now but they are not ruling the divisions and they never will. As a fight fan fan I enjoy seeing how far these athletic 'fighters' go before losing and never making a streak again.

Fighters will prevail in the world of fighting, as a fight fan you know that you will not get true fighters in every bout.

The card was alright. I mean it's no Anderson Silva but it was a decent showing. A big man looking guy with a knockout is enough to get a complete new comer into the spot. I started watching from Brock to Nick Diaz and then Nick in SF to UFC but this card was enough for a nobody to get into the shit.

You guys are just moaning. This was a decent enough free card, and the next PPV is crazy good, so stfu and enjoy your fav sport instead of compalining about it. LL is right man, stop whining and enjoy this shit.

In your opinion.

And how does being disappointed with this card have anything to do with how awesome the next card is going to be? Just because the next card will be good doesn't make last night's card any better. Some cards just suck. Some are awesome. It's not whining to have not enjoyed a fight or a card. It's opinion.

the main card wasnt bad, i dont know why some of you hated it that much, i enjoyed every fight on the main card but yes the prelim did steal the show, as usual

but thats why i enjoyed this card, great prelims and solid main card...thats a solid event IMO, no reason to bitch about, a free card on TV with good fights, nothing amazing, out of this world but not bad at all

im not one to love everything the UFC puts out, there have been many cards that i think was pretty crappy this year, im just saying this wasnt one of them...and i really enjoyed the struve card also

but to be devils advocate, if the UFC didnt have all these injuries and the fights they booked actually happened like it was suppose to i think this year would have been amazing
