This past weekend's UFC on FX 5 event drew below-average ratings for both the FX-televised main card and the FUEL TV-televised preliminary card.

The Oct. 5 event took place on a rare Friday at Minneapolis' Target Center.

The main card averaged 1.1 million viewers while prelims averaged just 44,000, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with industry sources.

In UFC on FX 5's main event, Antonio Silva knocked out fellow heavyweight contender Travis Browne, and in the co-headliner, Jake Ellenberger edged fellow welterweight Jay Hieron via unanimous decision. The prelims, which kicked off early at 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. CT local time) included notables such as Michael Johnson, Mike Pierce, Jacob Volkmann and Diego Nunes.

Prior to this past weekend's event, the four UFC on FX 4 broadcasts averaged 1.3 million viewers. Additionally, the FUEL TV-televised prelims averaged 127,000 viewers. (UFC on FX 3's prelims previously held the low-water mark with 84,000 viewers.)

The all-time UFC on FX main-card ratings include:
  • UFC on FX 2 ratings: 1.4 million viewers
  • UFC on FX 4 ratings: 1.3 million
  • UFC on FX 1 ratings: 1.3 million
  • UFC on FX 3 ratings: 1.1 million
  • UFC on FX 5 ratings: 1.1 million

The all-time UFC on FX preliminary-card ratings include:

  • UFC on FX 4 ratings: 160,000 viewers
  • UFC on FX 2 ratings: 113,000
  • UFC on FX 1 ratings: 148,000
  • UFC on FX 3 ratings: 84,000
  • UFC on FX 5 ratings: 44,000

I actually liked this card on paper and watching it.

Oh well, maybe people just didn't know who Browne was, but it probably wouldn't hurt if FOX promoted the UFC.

I noticed that myself. When they were on Spike I couldn't watch anything on that channel without knowing about the next PPV or just the next fights. I don't think I've seen a single PPV hype trailer since they moved to Fox. Pretty hard to get good numbers if you aren't even telling us when they are on.

Exactly, and that's coming from hardcore fans like us. Any of us who post fairly regularly on here, are hardcore in my books, and there were a few shows I found out were on the day of, by some member on here, let alone the tv network. That's pretty pathetic on their part.

FOX does promote the UFC, only for big cards though. I'm pretty sure I've seen 2-3 cards mention on there before. I didn't see a single mention of this FOX card though, maybe because it didn't have any huge names. Silva isn't exactly known to most casuals who watch NFL.

I don't think this FOX does is turning out as big as many people thought when it was first announced. Is the UFC more successful by partnering with FOX? I don't think so. Outside of that big paycheck they get each year from that contract, I don't think FOX adds any new fans with the limited marketing.

FOX could definitely make a better effort to mention everything going on with the UFC, but I can see why they don't.

I'm sorry, but keeping up with fight schedules is too complicated, and I have proof that I'm not that stupid.

I'd watched every UFC numbered event and most fight night events until around 130. I think my interests got complicated after the first Silva-Sonnen fight. My friends even remind me when free cards are on, and I do enjoy the prelims.

On a similar note I'd also watched every TUF episode before the Faber/Cruz season. I didn't watch the finals for that season.

The marketing peeps can figure out what That means, as I have no clue. I still read mmaforums just as much.

They promote the UFC on FX pretty well..

on a different note

I think TUF hit its season high because of the FX card. Since it aired right after the fights it pretty much cause a bunch of viewers to just piggyback right on to TUF.

Episode 1: 947,000
Episode 2: 872,000
Episode 3: 775,000
Episode 4: 1,100,000

Thats a plus atleast.

Is Ricci the Canadian that looks kind of like Rory MacDonald? They called him the accountant or something like that, he's really small.

Edit: just looked it up, he is. He's actually one of the few I like this season. Also the guy is a 155er.
