Tate doesn’t want contributions of other women in MMA to be overshadowed by Rousey

The MMA is world is abuzz with talk of whether or not the UFC is on the cusp of adding women to its roster of fighters, marking what would both be an important moment in the organization’s history as well as that of female athletics in general. If the move takes place, as has been widely reported, there’s little doubt the company’s decision will have stemmed from the transcendent rise of undefeated Strikeforce champion Ronda Rousey.
However, fellow bantamweight Miesha Tate wants to make it clear her gender’s status in MMA is not the doing of any one individual but rather a collective of talented competitors.
“It’s not just Ronda, it’s not just myself, that’s for sure,” said Tate in an interview with MMAWeekly Radio. “I know Ronda’s getting a lot of the credit and what not, but she didn’t have a lot to do with from the ground up.”
“She’s getting a lot of the credit and the limelight, but people who follow the sport understand there was a lot more getting to this point. I hope people can recognize that and give all the women that have worked really hard some credit,” Tate continued, referring to the likes of Tara LaRosa, Marloes Coenen, and Gina Carano.
Tate, a former opponent of Rousey’s, didn’t go so far as to dismiss the judoka’s impact on the sport, giving her credit for the job she’s done both in and out of the ring. Then again, regardless of her level of respect for Rousey, Tate still wants to get her hands on her again at some point down the road to avenge losing last March in a heavily-hyped bout.
“I know a lot of people don’t believe that Ronda can’t be beaten, that’s she’s just untouchable, but I beg to differ. If I do get that rematch in the UFC, it’s going to be one hell of a fight,” Tate concluded on her rival.

While she was on twitter asking for sponsors mutltiple times, Rousey was doing a lot of media and making deals. I suppose Rousey has finished the job Carano and Cyborg started.

I think big names in the Womens MMA world such as Cris Cybrog, Gina Carano, Meisha Tate, etc deserve their fair share of credit as well. They have helped make womens MMA as popular as it is. However, the one women who was able to drive Dana over the edge was Ronda. Womens MMA needed someone with a spark, and charisma that would grab peoples attentions, and didn't have one until Ronda came along. At that point, Dana saw potential in her making the market appealing enough to the casual fan.

Yeah i agree, sure Ronda was the one who finally got the deal done and not just because of her looks but she did tons of media crap, she knows how to do an interview and her skills are very impressive. She deserves the credit shes getting

At the same time though she shouldnt get all of it, it was because of gina, cyborg and tate that I and I would imagine most of the MMA world started paying attention to WMMA, if it wasnt for them rousey couldnt have done what she has on her own

On another topic, i really think this is a positive thing for the UFC...to see men and women fighting on the same card is pretty cool and to many casuals its amazing to see women beating the shit out of eqch other....I already have some female friends who HATE MMA and they never come over to watch UFC, but i told them how women will start fighting now and they were interested in seeing this and now want to see rondas first fight in the UFC....im betting many women will start watching more now

Seeing that double R is more like a homeboy (Diaz Bro mentality and seems to have mostly guy friends) I think she's alienated herself from the entire female MMA fighters. Everybody loves Gina...some may have disliked Cyborg, but they certainly respected and feared her.

I like RR, but I think she should tone down her rhetoric a bit...then again that's who she is.

Cyborg vs RR is gonna be the fight to watch. I'll have to go with she-hulk cuz she is one jacked up woman fighter. I can not believe how much she deadlifts and how hard she trains.
