Strikeforce light heavyweight Mike Kyle has announced he expects to face former champion Gegard Mousasi at the final Strikeforce event early next year.

Third time's the charm!

After having a planned fight between Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle fall apart twice in the past, Strikeforce is apparently trying to make the bout happen one last time at the locked and loaded event at the start of the year (Jan. 12, 2013) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

While the fight has not yet been officially confirmed by Strikeforce, Kyle relayed the news earlier today via a YouTube video he made while at the doctor's office preparing to get some stitches for a cut on his forehead. He says in the video that the cut will not be a problem or affect the fight, which would be taking place in about eight weeks.

Kyle (19-8-1 2 no contests) is coming off a first round guillotine choke defeat at the hands of Rafael Cavalcante, although the result was overturned by the California State Athletic Commission when "Feijao" tested positive for steroids in his post-fight drug screening.

Mousasi (32-3-2) has not fought since a December 2011 unanimous decision victory over prospect Ovince St. Preux at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal. He has been recovering from an ACL tear suffered while preparing for a previously announced fight against Kyle.

Kyle has been forced to pull out of the last two originally scheduled fights against Mousasi, breaking his hand before their planned 2011 battle at the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley show and then again injuring himself before the Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey show earlier this year.

Will he stay healthy this time around? Or does the need for stitches eight weeks out already leave a cause for concern?

I think Mousasi gets a contract no matter what, Kyle may still be banned for his infamous WEC incident but I doubt they would give him a fighter like Mousasi if they didn't have some interest although I do think Kyle needs a strong showing if he is hoping for a Zuffa appearance.
