"..Promotion officials are currently hard at work trying to assemble the UFC 157 fight card, and it looks like they’re trying to fill it up before everyone checks out for a little holiday cheer.

The UFC announced a couple of UFC 157 bouts on Wednesday, and MMAWeekly.com confirmed reports of an as yet unofficial match-up between Josh Koscheck and former Strikeforce fighter Robbie Lawler.

The Koscheck vs. Lawler bout was first reported by the Orange County Register.

The two will meet in a welterweight match-up on Feb. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Koscheck (17-6) enters the bout coming off of a split decision loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC on Fox 3 back in May. He had been slated to face Jake Ellenberger in September, but had to pull out of the fight due to a back injury.

Lawler (19-9) has had a much rougher go of it over the past few years. His tenure in Strikeforce never saw him gain any traction, amassing a 3-5 record while fighting for the promotion.

He’ll be looking to ignite a new spark in his career at UFC 157. The fight marks Lawler’s drop to welterweight and his return to the Octagon.

Lawler rose to prominence during his first tenure in the UFC, fighting there from 2002 to 2004, primarily as a welterweight.

Ronda Rousey puts her newly minted UFC women’s bantamweight championship belt on the line against Liz Carmouche in the UFC 157 main event.

Stay tuned to MMAWeekly.com for all the latest UFC 157 news and fight card updates."

I'm not that crazy about the card. But to each their own.

I'm glad Mendes isn't getting top guys. No need right now as the division is so thin. He got his shot and got KO'd. We got the Frankie/Aldo fight. Korean Zombie is there. Koch is there. Lamas. Hioki. I think Mendes is the #2 FW. But like Fitch he should get a few Mike Pierce's and Gono's in the meantime, I'm not in a hurry to see him get a title shot again. Him and Poirier should be matched up after this one.

Not interested, after the way he fought Larkin and Kennedy I'm over Lawler. Koscheck easily.

Mendes is one of the best fws in the world and the guy is stuck in prelim purgatory since Aldo decimated him. He is the fw Yushin Okami.

Mendes/Manny is a better, more relevant fight. But, and it's a pretty big but, the Johnson/Schaub fight could end with Schaub getting smashed into irrelevance. Now who wouldn't pay to see that?

lol @ people thinking Lavar Johnson is gonna beat Schaub. Dude got mounted by Pat Barry, Schaub will sub him easily.

Not that Lavar is hard to sub. But Schaub has never sub'd a man in his life.

If Schaub stands for a minute he probably get's Nog'd. If he goes straight for the TD he probably gets it and wins from there some way.

Either way these are both low level UFC HWs. Who knows what will happen.

I agree, it is likely that Schaub will just take Lavar down, and then once he's down submit him, but, when you've got a chin like Schaub's, and you're facing a savage like Johnson, there's every chance it could end in a vicious KO. It's not going the full 3 though, so it's going to be entertaining all the same.

Yeah, Schaub's chin blows but Lavar's ground game is just as bad imo. Schaub was basically football tackling Cro Cop to the ground, I think he'll do that here and get a sub or a TKO.
