"Let's get it on!": Tyson Fury issues challenge to UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez

3 Jan 2013 12:22
British heavyweight boxing star Tyson Fury isn't shy of calling out potential opponents, and now he's targeted a new heavyweight - UFC world champion Cain Velasquez

Outspoken: Tyson Fury has already called out David Price and the Klitschkos - and now he wants to fight UFC star Cain Velasquez

Mexican-American Velasquez destroyed then-champion Junior Dos Santos to reclaim the UFC's heavyweight championship of the world on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

And now Fury, who has already made clear his desire to fight David Price and Vitali Klitschko in 2013, says he fancies a crack at the UFC superstar - either in an MMA bout or a boxing contest.

Posting on his Twitter page, Fury accused Velasquez, a collegiate All-American wrestler and two-time UFC heavyweight world champion, of being on steroids, and challenged him to a bout "in a cage or ring".

Fury went on to tweet UFC president Dana White, saying, "I'm the new baddest man on the planet I'll smash @cainmma. Let's get it on!"

It's highly unlikely White would sanction another boxer vs MMA fighter event in the UFC, with the last bout proving a one-sided mismatch.

The bout saw an out-of-shape James "Lights Out" Toney face 47-year-old former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture at UFC 118 in 2010.

Toney failed to land a single punch as Couture took him to the mat and eventually submitted the former multi-weight world champion in just over three minutes in 2010.

Toney's lack of conditioning made the fight a mismatch from the start, but the addition of techniques not permitted in boxing, such as wrestling, submissions and knee and elbow strikes, makes an MMA fight a more complex challenge for a boxing specialist.

Fury would possess a huge height and reach advantage over Velasquez, but the UFC star has prodigious punching power of his own and, with his top-level wrestling skills and superb cardio, he'd offer a challenge unlike any Fury has faced inside a boxing ring.

It's a fantasy fight that will almost certainly never happen, but that doesn't mean we can't debate the possible outcome. Who would YOUR money be on?

Tyson Fury would get KILLED by Cain.

Woah there! I didn't say shit. Nahhh but really I have no idea what my fave HW boxer is on about. If he wants to fight Cain in a cage it will be over quicker than the Toney/Couture fight. If he's talking about a boxing match then why not call out JDS? Still, in a boxing match Fury would obviously murder both.

On a side note, the dude he was fighting when he uppercutted himself is Lee Swaby. Someone I've trained with multiple times and now works as a bouncer here in Lincoln. Not that technical but impossible to hurt.

It seems like not many people like this fight. **** that! Make it happen! I don't know shit about Fury because I don't follow Boxing and as far as I can tell this clown is irrelevant. Anyways, let 'em fight. I don't doubt that a lot of Boxers are training more than just Boxing now, but this clown is delusional to think he belongs in the same cage, ring, ..., ******* zip code, as Cain.

I'm not joking. Fury is a horrible, HORRIBLE boxer, and he loses to literally anyone who knows how to throw a proper punch. He doesn't have a credible win on his entire record. Audley Harrison > Everyone Fury has fought. Cain knocks him out with an overhand.

I do notice the difference between MMA/Boxing, mainly because I'm still probably slightly more of a boxing fan than MMA. David Price probably KOs Cain in the first round, but he also KOs Fury in the first round. Fury has no chin, no technique, no real experience. He's a big fat guy, I guess that counts for something?

Loses? Am I missing something here? 20 fights. 20 wins. 14 Kos. He might not be the most technical but I have yet to see him struggle. As for all the people who say he's shit or whatever, how many 6ft 9" boxers do you know that have the technical abiltiy of a Pacman, Maywether, Marquez? Just saying. Also, not that I'm bothered about reps, I just got a neg with a comment saying 'Naseem Hamed'. Thats it. No sig. Lol, some people are weirdos. Oh well, thats 10 neg reps and 106 pos reps. :thumb02:

Common sense tells me that if you're going to call out an mma fighter, you should atleast train MMA and become an MMA fighter first. Any boxer that thinks he can just step in the cage and get KO's clearly doesn't know how MMA works. If Tyson Fury secretly has been working on his wrestling and has D1 takedown defense, than this fight would be interesting. Other than that, this fight would just be Couture/Toney all over again, and this guy is a tool who needs to stick to boxing.

Once, before most of you were born, I considered myself a real boxing fan. To me, the next big HW match was the biggest event in sports.

It's funny how much MMA changed that. Our own Tyson Fury was posting here for many months before I realized that was a real boxer's name. I thought it was some reference to mike.:smoke01:
