Trainer: 'Jacare' Souza to make UFC debut in April, final Strikeforce fight result determines opponent

By Adam Guillen Jr. on Jan 11, 4:00p +

While the result of his Ed Herman bout this Saturday (Jan. 12, 2013) won't deter Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza from competing for UFC, it will, however, determine who his first challenge inside the Octagon will be as the Brazilian eyes an April debut.

Win, lose or draw Saturday night (Jan 12, 2013), Ronaldo Souza will be fighting for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2013, says 'Jacare's' coach at X-Gym, Josuel Distak.

It's not much of a surprise, really, seeing as how the Brazilian-jiu-jitsu black belt signed a new five-fight contract with Forza LLC, a subsidiary of Zuffa LLC, which is the parent company of UFC, just last week.

The good thing for Souza, as he prepares to face UFC import Ed Herman at Strikeforce: "Marquardt vs. Saffiedine," from the Chesapeake Energy Center on Oklahoma City, Ok., is that regardless of his outcome against "Short Fuse," he will be fighting inside the Octagon for the foreseeable future and is eying a debut for the promotion sometime in April of this year.

The only thing this weekend's outcome will determine is who his first opponent will be.

Distak spilled the beans to Sherdog:

"'Jacare is now a UFC fighter and signed a five-fight contract. The result of the fight against Herman will be the basis for choice of his debut opponent in the UFC, which I think will be in April."
Interesting.

A fight against current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is one that sounds intriguing to fans, but Distak says that is a bout that will likely not happen anytime soon due to their friendship and because "Jacare" still has a ways to go and "make his own history" before such a bout is even considered:

"Jacare has a career to tread in the UFC yet; do not think about it for a while. Jacare is going there to make his [own] history."
How about it Maniacs, should the former Strikeforce 185-pound champion defeat Herman in Oklahoma City, who should his first fight be against inside the Octagon?

What if he comes up "Short" against the "Fuse," who should welcome him then?

After he beats Herman, Jacare should fight Weidmann. That way Weidmann can quit thinking he's unstoppable. Jacare would crush Weidy. Standing, Weidmann doesn't have the power or to out technique Jacare for too long. On the ground, Weidmann loses a limb quickly.

In the unfathomable chance that Jacare loses to Herm, give him the loser of Bisping/Vitor (Bisping). Or hell, he could still fight Weidmann. Weidmann would be coming off an injury and Jacare would be coming off a loss. Which in the eyes of most MMA fans would make him a nobody. The perfect kind of opponent for a "back in action,", "warm up" fight that Weidmann would need coming off an injury. Even though Weidmann loses to Jacare 98% of the time.
