Now that time has past. And the fight has gotten to soak in with everyone, and I'm sure most of us have watched it more then one time. I'm wondering if anyone still out their thinks Benson actually won that second fight. (Lets not talk about the first fight) Second fight only....

I'm fairly firm on Ben's stomping Frankie in their first fight. Their second fight, however, was so close that I wouldn't have been shocked if Frankie took the decision. I seem to recall thinking Edgar had just edged it out.

Benson kicked Frankie's ass in their first fight though. No idea why some people rant and rave about that decision.

I checked their records and Benson won both fights. Everything else falls into the category of pointless speculation. Time for forward thinking. The forum got hung up on the first Lyoto and Shogun fight for months after they fought, it wasn't productive or enjoyable to read honestly.

My thought process when it comes to these types of situations is this:

Many fighters stress all the time that you never want to leave it in the hands of the judges because you never know which style, techniques, and executions will sway them. So as a fan, whether YOU think a fighter legitimately won a fight or not ultimately doesn't matter in the world of fighting, because the most important people, whether you think they are dumb asses or not, are the judges.

The best, and sometimes the only way to keep a robbery from happening is to finish the fight. If the fighters don't finish, then whoever the judges thinks won the fight, won the fight. Many people argue that Frankie won the second fight. But guess what, the most important people scored the fight for bendo, so he is who won. I personally think Carlos Condit was robbed in his fight against Kampann, but yet again, he didn't insure his victory by finishing, so Kampann won because the judges said so.

My point is that if all these people that won these fights, TRULY won the fight, it wouldn't have had to go to a decision in the first place.

It's not like the fighters wanted to go to the cards. Just neither guy could finish the other. I disagree that the only "true" way to win is get a finish. Sometimes that's just not in the cards.
I also don't have to base my views on fights and fighters on what 3 generally incompetent judges have to say. I don't have to accept all decisions as law and I never will.

You wanna know what I think about the biggest robbery in anything ever?

Frankie Edgar won both of those fights!

I thought the first fight was pretty clearly Benson.

Full disclosure haven't seen the second fight. I have no real interest in it either. But people I trust and who are very well educated said Frankie pretty clearly.

I thought it could have gone either way but generally in those situations the guy that is the aggresser and controls the center of the octagon/gets the take downs wins the round. Under the judging criteria I had it 3-2 for bendo simply for that but it definitely could have gone the other way.

Why does this have reverence? I mean the only way any fight is not able to be given to either fighter is that in the case of a KO, TKO or Submission. If fight ends in anyother fashion people will argue. I feel Henderson won however slight the margin. What should be done to prevent this? Go back in time to the days where fights continued until one opponent could not continue???

So you can make an argument that JDS beat Cain in that last fight? Nate Diaz over Bendo? Fitch over GSP?

Just watched both fights twice each. I actually went to see their second fight in Denver.
Yeah, it's a slow day at work.

I scored the first fight 49-46 for Henderson.
I scored the second fight 49-46 for Edgar.

I scored the first fight for Henderson pretty clearly. I didn't think it was domination or anything but I thought he won rounds two through five. Rounds two and four were especially pretty clear rounds for Henderson in my opinion while the third was closer but still a winning round for Henderson. I did think that round five could have been a draw but I leaned towards Henderson. I wasn't shocked at all when the decision was announced and thought it was the correct call.
Interestingly enough, in the second fight, I scored rounds two through five for Edgar. I thought he won all of those rounds fairly convincingly and I was shocked to hear that Henderson took a split decision verdict. The only round that I thought Henderson won was the first.

Speaking of which, was anyone else pretty confused by Henderson's preformance in his second contest with Edgar? He had a great gameplan in the first that seemd to be working really well, then after he got dropped by Frankie in the second round, he completely abandoned his gameplan and in my opinion was outclassed from there on after. I have no idea why he didn't stick with the leg kicks especially when it was working so well.

I remember thinking Edgar won the rematch. The fight was close and inactive for the most part. Half the rounds could have been 10-10s. Doesn't matter though. Edgar got destroyed in the first fight and had no business being in a rematch anyways. Which is why I was ecstatic when he got robbed.

The fight for me always came down to this: Frankie landed more pitter patter shots, while Bendo landed the harder shots. Whenever Bendo would land Frankie would feel it, which I can't say the same for Frankies shots. I'm not big on point fighting and IMO if the fight would have lasted 2 more rounds Bendo would have taken it.

I scored the fight for Bendo, but it could have easily been a draw, although I have no idea why people say Frankie was "robbed". On the other hand I have only watched the fight once, so does anyone have a link to refresh my memory?
