We have never seen these two brazililan people fight before, which is amazing considering they've both been in two different promotions and shared the same weight category before.
Who would win between these two brazilians? Vitor or Shogun? I don't respect either of them, but I think it would be a fun fight. From what I see, Shogun is more diverse in his muay thai attacks whereas Vitor is more explosive and hits faster and harder. And he has shown he has a good left high kick too.
Vitor seems like the far better fighter at this point, and he's what, like 7 years older than Shogun? Vitor's resurgence has been great to watch, I wish it'd happen for more old legends.
I'm gonna' have to agree with Hit'- the only things Shogun has really shown me in the last few years is the he is durable (read: can take a beating) and woefully slow.
While I personally have no affiliation with "God", I do understand that ones "relationship" with him can give them immense motivation and reasons to succeed......
Couple that with TRT and Shogun will be jumping on heads again!
I would take Vitor if he could end it in the 1st or 2nd round, if went to 3 or more I would start leaning more towards Shogun, but I think Vitor could win quick, I'd say 65% for Belfort winning.
Why would the fight going longer mean Shogun has the better chance of winning? Shogun's cardio isn't spectacular or anything and comparing their striking lately, Vitor appears to have that advantage. I think if Shogun doesn't end Vitor in round 1, Vitor wins.
People are basing Shogun's so called 'late recovery' because of his fight with Dan Henderson where he staged a comeback. The fact remains, he only got the better of Henderson because Henderson is 41 and tired himself out from killing Shogun for the first 3 rounds. Shogun is a joke.
For whatever reason, Shogun goes into brawl mode about 2 minutes into the fight or when he starts getting hit, whichever happens first. He stops throwing kicks and just wings punches at the head for the rest of the fight.
Against the new, smarter, and more patient Vitor he's going to lose unless he fights smart himself. Which means...kick the shit out of Vitor's legs and body. Vitor still doesn't have the great footwork by any means and even Bisping had a lot of success with leg kicks against him. Bisping was usually able to get his lead foot to the outside of Belfort's to get the dominant angle for his strikes, and by getting to the outside it moves him away from Vitor's left straight.
Shogun can do the same to really load up & step into his leg & body kicks, once Vitor eats a few of those he's going to have a massive gimp which takes away his ability to blitz with punches. Kicks to the body will keep Vitor guessing as well as take away his cardio when they land. In short, it's the same gameplan that Shogun used against another southpaw with fast hands; Machida. Once Vitor's nice & worried about the low & body kicks, then it's time to go high and try for a KO, then go back down low if it doesn't work. Rinse & repeat till the fight's over.
But even more importantly, he needs to have the fight outside the US. Shogun has won every UFC fight outside the US, and they were all TKO wins, while he's 1-5 in the US.
man ... i love both of them ... they are two of my favourite fightes ... so on one side i dont want to see them fight ... but on the other side, it would be a great fight!
I cant decide for who am i rooting for.
But i think shogun would win a close desicion
