UFC welterweight number one contender, Johny Hendricks suffers second degree burns while filming UFC 167 promo commercial.
Filming commercials can be dangerous business, and from the most unlikely sources. During filming of the promotional commercial for UFC 167, Johny Hendricks incurred second degree burns to his back. The filming took place last month in Los Angeles and came as a result of the lighting being placed too close to his back, MMA Fighting reports.
Ted Ehrhardt, Hendricks' manager, stated that Johny tried to resume his training two days later, but was unable to because of the discomfort and pain he was experiencing. After a physician visit and a prescription of a healing ointment, he was able to return to training after a couple days, and was healed up in about a week.
The Mayo Clinic states the criteria for a 2nd degree burn:
2nd-degree burn
When the first layer of skin has been burned through and the second layer of skin (dermis) also is burned, the injury is called a second-degree burn.
•Blisters develop
•Skin takes on an intensely reddened, splotchy appearance
•There is severe pain and swelling.
If the second-degree burn is no larger than 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) in diameter, treat it as a minor burn. If the burned area is larger or if the burn is on the hands, feet, face, groin or buttocks, or over a major joint, treat it as a major burn and get medical help immediately.
Ehrhardt provided a photo and a quote:
"Johny never gets pissed off about anything," Ehrhardt said. "He was just mad that it was messing up his training, that's all."

The UFC issued an apology to Hendricks, who is still in disbelief that he even suffered the injury, saying that he never suffers sunburns during the summer months.
