I think Faber takes it but this fight should be good and hopefully Mcdonald can come out as a star because I worry this will make him look like a guy who stumbles against top talent.
Faber is the Belfort of the 135 division, he'll take out the up and coming potential title challengers, but will probably never hold the belt again himself.
I think MayDay is an elite fighter, but I don't think anyone is beating Faber at 135 outside of Barao and maybe Cruz. (I say maybe just because they have each beaten each other and I am not sure who would win again)
Rooting for McDonald because I like his style. You only hear positivity and respect from the guy, something a lot of people with great talent think they don't need. Refreshing to see high level pros behave like that. As far as the fight, I think this is tied with the Main Event of this card for best fight of the month on paper. Expecting great things. I think McDonald can get to Faber. His striking is better and faster. I see him staying on the feet and Faber being forced to try to put this fight on the mat. McDonald KO before round 3.
Could be a youth take over. But Faber hasn't seemed to lose a step yet. When you take in to account Bang Ludwig, all of his training partners preparing for the same event, and it being is Sac Town....Can't pick against him. As good as MM is...
Great technique by Urijah so far. This is arguably Urijah's most important fight. You can bounce back from losing against a champion, but losing against a 'contender' is devastating. Urijah needs this.
Urijah doesn't get the credit he deserves at times. He was the better striker tonight, the better wrestler and finished with his trademark submission. Joe Rogan said it right, he might be the best not to hold a title right now in the UFC, maybe with Belfort at second place (Anderson/GSP excluded).
Faber was a monster. What will. Better on the ground, better standing, amazing final seq and transition to the guillotine. Hats off to the California Kid. Alpha Male member or not, I like this kid.
The way he didn't chase the knockout when he hurt McDonald first, and then when he properly felt it the second time he rushed into it. Perfect knowledge of his opponent's state.
Mcdonald needs to pull the trigger from the get go in his fights thats his best weapon and thats how he came close to dropping barao. Waiting around for counters only works for shot average fighters like miguel torres. As for faber, I wish he used this gameplan when he first fought barao, ge tinc lose with the boxing and use takedowns to pepper away and sap the cardio.
