I was randomly thinking what the general consensus on this is. Il wait to comment because i am more interested in seeing other opinions.

To make it fair think of the same level screw up between a "early" and "late" stoppage as obviously slightly early stoppage is going to be better then a really late stoppage or vice versa.

Il post some gifs so you have something to look at and stir up those emotions.

Dont just think about the Fighters health but instead think about it overall for example think about the event, the viewer, the company, the fighters career, etc.

Why did that guy not tap? It looked like his head was going to be removed from his body at one point. "It's okay, if I go to sleep, the referee will just pull him off. Oh wait.." That was rough.

Its usually a matter of interpretation. It can be hard to tell if a fighter has had enough or if they can withstand a few more blows. The real pisser is you have to make those decisions in a split second or you could risk a fighter suffering serious injury. To me one thing is clear: Being a referee really sucks because your damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Late stoppages are worse because of health reasons. There's absolutely no defending the gifs posted in OP, and referees should be held accountable for their actions. The fighters recieve fines ans suspensions, referees should too, because the safety of the fighters is essentially in their hands. Fighters are told to fight until the ref steps in, after all. Though it's really great that there are many gentlemen who will stop when their opponent is clearly out.

All that being said - I'll be brutally honest, and this may sound harsh. I hate early stoppages. In fact, I absolutely despise them. What if Lesnar-Carwin, Browne-Overeem, or Barry-Congo were stopped when they first went down? In hindsight that would have been really bad. My point being, you've got to give the fighter a fair chance to get back in the game. As a paying customer I'd much rather see the stoppage be a little late than a little early. Unless it's really extreme either way, I'd rather see a definite ending. I'm sure the fighters would too.

Food for thought.
