10 Fights I want to see

1. Matt Brown vs Hector Lombard for the Interim Welterweight Championship. Hendricks is out with an injury, GSP is out for another year and we have four guys who have in my eyes earned a title shot. The field has to get drastically cut down and I believe the best way to do it is to have the Woodley/Macdonald winner fight Hendricks for one title and Brown/Lombard fight this summer for the interim. So at the end of the year we have a title unification and then July 4th 2015 GSP vs whomever is the champion.

2. Joseph Benavidez vs Kyoji Horiguchi I was impressed with Kyoji enough to throw him at one of the top five guys, a win over Benavidez lines him up for a title shot.

3. Soa Palelei vs Frank Mir, apparently Mir hasn't been cut yet well I say give him the Hulk and see if still wants to compete in MMA after Hulk Smash.

4. Costa Phillipou vs Mike Swick - stylistically the best fight for Swick it'll be a co-main event or main card fight and if he retires with this fight their will be little to no shame.

5. Daron Cruickshank vs Tony Ferguson - I love both guys the winner should break out in the LW division.

6. Johnny Eduardo vs Francisco Rivera - PPV opener

7. Rafeal Natal vs Lorenz Larkin - cut fight

8. Ed Herman vs Tim Boetsch - just a rough scrap or a chance for Herman to move up the ladder

9. Erick Silva vs Rick Story - Personally I would rather see Silva just knock out bums for the next five who gives a shit about titles and rankings but I guess a fight with Story could be good.

10. Nik Lentz vs Cole Miller (after Miller gets his faced smashed by Conor)

Interim titles are dumb. In no way should they do one at ww. Hendricks will be back before the start of the year won't he? Not sure why the ufc HAS to thin out the division. It is great to Have a ton of guys who fans think deserve the shot. How is that a bad thing??

Brown v Lombard
Silva v Kelvin

Costa v Herman
Natal v Larkin

Shank v El Cucay I like

Palelei v meathead/struve winner

Diaz vs Condit drew 400,000 buys betcha that's the same amount the next two UFC's will draw combined.

The Summer PPV cards this year are frankly terrible inserting two WW title fights (for 176 and 177) might save the summer.

The UFC needs to make stars, Brown not fighting for a title after that fight is just stupid. It's a real possibility that of Woodley, Macdonald, Lombard, and Brown only one of them might be fighting for the title. The UFC has this golden goose of 170lbs an instead of building fan bases for these guys they are just going to have them cannibalize themselves.

I agree with you in the ufc's marketing eyes and pockets that it's a good move. But what would they start doing? Each time a champ is injured have an interim belt?
Yes they should this is a case where you have a number of guys who have earned title shots and you can make 4 main events with championships as opposed to 1.

Looking at the odds for the next UFC PPV the Main Event and Co-Mainevent are Barao is -900, Cormier is -1200. Those are "fake" Pride match odds who wants to watch those fights?

Don't forget the last three men who fought for the title they didn't really earn those opportunities, Hendricks lost, Diaz lost and Robbie Lawler while the feel good story of last year would never have been brought back into the UFC with a 1-3 record in his last four.

Clearing out the log jam at 170 is important but what is also important is getting people used to interim belts again because let me tell you some, Cain Velasquez and Anthony Pettis are not durable guys and while they lack the challengers Hendricks the need is going to be there. You can't have 1 HW title a year or hold off top talent like Aldo and Alvarez from getting those opportunities to be 155lb champion.

I think it might start confusing people like boxing with 3 titles each class. And over time would really water the meaning of a title fight down a bunch.

But I see what you are saying. Don't agree that an interim fight made Condit or Diaz what they are. Diaz was a Co main evented or better before that. SF champ. Put clinic on Penn. Was supposed to be in the big fight when he first stepped back into the UFC. Condit's KOs and record and style made him into an OK draw. Not that performance vs Diaz.

Same with Nog. Yea Nog ended up being a main eventer and not CC because Nog stepped in to the UFC and beat a former champ. CC was so hyped and came in and lost to KONGO AND GONZO. Nogs former standing as a fighter, the fact he won coming into the UFC, and the show vs MIR made him an OK draw, not an interim title fight.

Barao I don't count, what else was the UFC supposed to do in that class? Barao still isn't a draw. He would have ran through the division and been where he is at regardless of interim stuff.

Oh I agree with you there and have been the leader in saying this here. Yea it's a ploy the ufc can use to build a star/buzz for casual fans to eat. But as a fan of mma I'm not hoping they do it as it is cheesy and useless. So I'm not c ailing for it. UFC is big boys, I won't hope or root for them to line their Pockets. Perhaps you were just saying that is what they should do for business rather than what you as a fan wants. Perhaps I read it wrong.

Actually it's both, for the business and the fans. I like Ali Bagautinov, Chad Mendes, and TJ Dillashaw but they should not be in the main events of PPVs those are going to be three one-sided beat downs. And with an interim title hanging around you can have control to book better fights.

Meh I find it cheesy as hell. Interim just means glorified #1 contenders fight with a cheesy burger king belt. I'm a big Diaz fan but I thought it was dumb that it was an interim title on the line. As if that means jack shit when a long time champ like GSP still holds the real belt. I get in some cases, Cruz is a prime example. And at least GSP was often hurt; pulled out of the fight. If Hendricks returns before the year is up it will be like 2 fights in 10 months. That is quite the norm for activity these days.

I don't think the UFC has to hurry to make knockout fights right now. Hendricks can face Lombard at the end of the year. Winner can face rory/wood winner in like March. Brown can fight berger/Lawler winner. How long has Cain been out? There was no interim there. Hell they are Gonna do a whole TUF season before he fights again.

Nate pointed out Pettis' lack of activity too. I agree that for the ufc manufacturing hype is a need right now as they have hit a lull with injury and stars fading. But I myself don't see how an interim titles gives them chances for better fights? Just puts a label of hype on it that is fake.
