ESPN - Woods: Serra seethes at thought of Hughes - MMA

I found an interesting statement in this article and it is by Dana White. He says that he thinks the fight will be closer then everybody thinks and Serra has better standup. The one that surprised me was Serra having better standup just for the fact that he wasn't backing up Matt Hughes for once but I agree with that Serra has better standup and I was wondering who everybody has. I'm not sure yet I want Serra to win but I'm not sure if he will but I think he will train harder harder for this fight then the GSP fight so I think I am going with the upset... For Now

its gonna be close. i'm not saying it would be easy, but in my eyes hughes tips the scale. i dont think serra would be able to check his emotions at the door. i see hughes fighting a smart fight and taking it to serra.

Man do I hate both of these guys. I cant even pick which one I hate more. I kind of want serra to win more just so GSP can get a rematch and kick his ass. But if I get to see GSP KO hughes again I definetly will still be happy. So I guess its a win win seeing how both of them will lose once in there next 2 fights.

I want Serra to win but I really can't see it happening. The only chance for Serra is to avoid the takedowns and force Hughes into striking with him!

Hughes has more experience, heart and determination. Hughes does not care for Serra and feels that he is a pathetic champion and role model These are priciples that Hughes feels as the title should be held. Serra has humiliated Hughes to where his friends and family are watching and I believe Hughes will take vengence.

well i hate to say it

but i think hughes will win, serra will fight a good fight and might win the first couple rounds, but i predict the same type of fight like hughes vs penn 2 serra will come out swinging, but if you have watched any of his past fights he tends to get tired, i think hughes cardo will win him the fight, my prediction hughes wins a decision 48-47

what the duece are you talking about? there is no set template for Champions to be guided by. nevertheless, Serra does tons of radio and tv interviews, all done professionally. i personally hear Serra on the BTLS show when Serra is at his most honest. sure he has a big dirty mouth. but i'm sure nearly every guy that fights for a living also has a dirty vernacular. plus, Dana White, that head guy you may have seen, swears more than a Sailor, so Hughes's argument is BS

It is not Hughes argument. it is mostly mine. Serra is the only champion that I can think of that acts in the manor that he does. Dana is garbage so comparing a true champion to Dana is the most asonine thing I have heard to date. Think about it. Lidell, Hughes, RandyFranklin ect.... all have represented themselves with dignity.

I have Hughes taking this one.

People are seriously overrating Matt Serra. Hughes will push an insane pace that Serra won't keep up with, and will send the hype crashing down and bursting into flames. Matt Serra is getting his time in by being an annoying ham.

finding similarities between Serra and Dana White (the President of the UFC) is asinine? I'm not sure about you, but i do my best to think the same way as my boss as much as possible.

I love Chuck Liddell, but he did an interview whacked out on pills. Rampage is the furthest fighter away from 'professional' (just google him).

we can go on and on about past and present champions' unprofessionalism, but the point has been made. these guys fight for a living and can't be expected to be as squeaky clean as Derek Jeter when it comes to dealing with the media. I understand if you still think that Serra goes over the top though.

You got me on the Liddell interview. I completly forgot about that. I don't care for Rampage at all.

Guys that I like as Champions are: Hughes, Cotour, GSP and Franklin.

I keep going back and forth but if you think about it Dana's comment is right, Hughes standup sucks and Serra's is better then his Hughes has good Jiu-Jitsu and I think he will be able to stay away from Serra's SUBS and if he can keep Serra on his back and stay out of his SUBS then it is Hughes fight but if it is standing then I give it to Serra. I just don't know right now!

Isn't Serra a JJ guy?
And I don't like Hughes. He's too...smug? I don't know, it seems as if he thinks he's more than he actually is. As Serra said, "He's the football jock that picks on all the dorks". Just something about him makes me dislike him.

He'll probably win, but I'm rooting for Serra.

Serra.

Better striking.
Better subs.
Nearly equal wrestling.
Nearly equal conditioning.

More importantly, Matt Hughes is not improving, and gnp doesn't win on it's own anymore. Whereas Matt Serra has developed as a fighter, subs, gnp and stand up.

Though obv gsp is a very undependable fighter - I still think Serra was impressive.

Personality-wise, Hughes is obv a very hard worker with no issues with winning - good game planning. But Serra has a heart continuing to try after so many set backs. And Argy Bargy as he is - he seems like he's got the right attitude to me, Hughes seems a bit over-confident.

Same here Bonnar...I would love tosee Serra beat Hughes just because of Hughes' reaction to Serra winning against GSP, but I think Serra'sbest chance is to mix it up, start standing and then take a frustrated Hughes down and sub him out...

i'll give you the striking and maybe sub skills, but wrestling and conditioning???? im sorry but are you crazy?

Hughes' physical attributes (strength especially) is way better than Serra. His wrestling is also way better. I think its going to be a closer fight than people realize, but Hughes does have the better wrestling and conditioning.
