Yay, some news that doesn't involve a great fighter retiring.
A UFC 77 middleweight bout between Yushin Okami (20-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and Jason MacDonald (19-8 MMA, 3-1 UFC) could earn the winner an immediate title shot, UFC president Dana White said.
During yesterday’s UFC 77 media conference call, White said that both fighters — as well as recent UFC signee Dan Henderson — could all earn consideration when it comes to the UFC’s middleweight title.
However, despite the potential significance of the Okami-MacDonald bout, it has been relegated to the undercard of UFC 77, which takes place Saturday, Oct. 20 at U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati. Current champ Anderson Silva and former champ Rich Franklin meet in the night’s main event.
The UFC’s middleweight division is arguably the organization’s thinnest. Okami and MacDonald aren’t exactly the sport’s biggest draws or most marketable names, though both middleweights have put together solid records inside the Octagon. However, the two fighters could benefit from a current drought of contenders. White hinted that both fighters have made a case for a title shot, but he wouldn’t fully commit to the idea.
“I’m not sure yet,” White said. “Those guys are definitely in the mix, though. Dan Henderson could drop down, as well.“
Henderson recently lost a five-round unanimous decision to light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson. However, despite the loss, Henderson says he’d prefer to fight at 205 pounds rather than 185.
Well I thought this was pretty inevitable. Id rather Hendo came down to 185, but the winner of Okami Vs MacDonald is the only logical next for Anderson Silva if he wins.
Hmm... I think it would be more fun to watch Silva smash McDonalds face, but then again he needs to clear that "loss" against Okami. I don't really care, but if Franklin wins I do NOT wanna see Okami vs Franklin 2 *shiver*
Okami should win this fight, and Silva vs Okami 2 wouldn't be bad but Silva will probably end things before Okami starts Hulking up in the third. That is, if Silva doesn't get upkick happy.
i think silva would literally murder MacDonald in the octagon i can hear it now.....
"MY GOD JOE, SILVA JUST PUT HIS KNEE RIGHT THROUGH JASON'S STERNUM, MY GOD THE BLOOD ... WH..WHATS THIS... GOOD LORD SILVA IS EATING HIS HEART WHAT A VICTORY!!!"
I was expecting more of, "HOLY SHIT, JOE, ANDERSON SILVA JUST KICKED JASON MACDONALD'S HEAD OFF! BLOOD IS SQUIRTING ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! HE'S BATHING IN IT NOW!!!! VIOLENT IN HIS DESTRUCTION IS ANDERSON SILVA!!!!"
ok Okami VS Franklin 2 won't suck for the simple reason that Okami will fight different since he knows if he fights the same way he won't win......and if Silva fight Okami then it will be Okami Hulking Silva for 3 rounds at the most lol.....and when this fight happens i will bet every single point i have on Okami b/c i believe he will win it....and Dana please make Okami fight for the title on the same card as GSP next fight so i can watch him fight and win the title
oh and if J-mac pulls the win off then he won't stand a chance in the cage with Silva...standing up but on the ground maybe....i like J-mac and if he wins i'll be rooting for him to beat frankling or silva
^^^^^ im not so sure Silva is really that great on the ground as every one thinks.. i really think Okami would kill him on the ground...he's just to strong and j-mac might be alittle stronger then Silva

Just because they might be stronger dosnt meant they would be better on the ground. Everyone saw what silva did to Lutter on the ground and Lutter is damn good on the ground and to use your logic i would say stronger as well.
