I'm watching PRIDE 22, Mezger vs Yoshihisa Yammimoto. Not Guy's best fight but even his OK fights are better than 90% of other MMA fights. Mezger is flat out entertaining every time he stepped in the ring.

Yamimoto is totally outclassed in this matchup, but he's tough as nails and more than willing to trade with mezger. Guy is landing hard punches and some really nice high kicks and Yamimoto just keeps coming forward. the highlite of this fight is when Guy drops him with a hard left, Yammimoto goes down and on his way up guy connects with a high kick right to the face and follows that up with a knee. Right after that sequence, they are in the center of the ring, Guy puts out his hand to tap gloves, they tap, Then Guy points to Yommimoto and says, "Your Tough". This fight rules, Guy puts on a striking clinic, the only problem was he had many opportunities to finish and he didn't. Tra Talligman is in his corner for this, which rules too.

Mezger is definetly one of the classiest guys to ever compete in MMA. Not to mention he's fought some of the best ever, Bas, Wandy, Sakuraba, Arona, Lidell, Ortiz, Schilt and lil Nog. Mezger has been in some great fights and he always puts on a good show.

I really miss Guy Mezger, this guy friggin rules!!!

Idd, I think Mezger defines class. Still pissed he got screwed in some decisions most notably the Arona one. He nearly Knocked him the **** out and then they give the decison to Arona. Arona never looked like he was gonna finish that fight. -_-

Also didn't he have two strokes which ended his career? :<

lol Telligman and the bucket. :thumb02:

I just watched this fight not too long ago, and it may be my favorite Mezger tooling. Yamamoto completely sucks, and Mezger makes sure to let the world know this fact. Mezger's pre-fight promo was hilarious, too.

Mezger won the Arona fight. I don't care what anyone says, mezger won. Arona had nothing for Guy, and Guy almost kicked his head off. Bad judging.

He also beat Sakuraba, but of course, that would've messed up the big Sakuraba vs Gracie fight, so it was a "draw."

Mezger was really underrated, and his fights mostly rule all. I dig swank striking, and Mezger provides just that. His fight with Rogerio grew on me big time. Highly technical stuff.

That was a really bad desision, The PRIDE judges weren't very kind to Mezger on a few occasions. I hate that they gave that to Arona.

Mezger vs Liddell was a great fight, even though Guy gets Ko'd the fight was a standup war, Mezger dropped Lidell early on and then Chuck lands that devestating KO at the end. The two were throwing bombs going toe to toe the whole fight.

Guy Mezger is definetly one of my favorites of all time.

Mezger vs Chuck was awesome, as was Mezger vs Silva. Even when losing, mezger looks really solid. Silva should've been called for headbutting Mezger. But, it's Mezger, and I bet Pride paid Silva extra money because of it.

Akira Shoji, in no way, beat Guy Mezger. Blatant Asian biased judging.

People cry about some of the controversial decisions in the UFC. Pride had some really bad ones too, their scoring system was better, but thier decisions were much worse.

Mezger seemed to always get the short end of the stick.

Mezger Vs Silva I think is one of the definitive Pride fights people should see. A total classic, as Quadros said, "This is fight is Action Jackson folks."

MEZGER VS SILVA absolutely amazing. for anybody even if you prefer more technical ground fighting like myself you will still love this fight even though the ending is a little saddening. mezger is great his head movement was some of the best in mma and getting help from ken on his ground fighting made him one of the greatest to ever fight.though if you wanna see mezger lay some one out watch him and egans fight. a highly underrated fighter

Mezger's standing karate kicks are freakin amaazing. He was taking it to Chuck in the second round until, well, he folded like an accordian.

Gotta love the Silva fight and Shamrock at ring side cheering him on, I think thats what made the fight soo deadly, Ken Shamrock cheering for Guy to knock Vanderlei out.

I actually haven't heard about the 2 strokes thing this is news to me. I never did know why Mezger stopped competing, I mean, he got screwed a ton of times maybe he thought that he has had a great run and time to see what the business is like on the outside of the cage/ring? :dunno:

Also, I like how when he beats Tito, and then Tito beats him and Tito goes all out throwing on T-shirts and talking shit when he never did have a third fight with him.

When they make the seniors divsion, they can have Tito and Guy headline.

EDIT: Itsallgood, your an old school fan aren't ya, got some kool names listed there.

Yep, he suffered 2 strokes. It sucks that it happened to such a good person, and classy sport. Guy always played by the rules, and was always classy, even in defeat.

Tito vs Mezger 3 would've been really interesting, and I think Guy would've taken it, since his stand-up is 100X better, and his takedown defense was really, really solid. Sucks that it never happened.

I'm glad that someone else out there believes this. This is one of those fights that will never happen, but should have.

And damn...did Guy ever get screwed by those Japanese judges, again and again.

I just watched the Mezger VS Sakuraba this morning (from 2000 GP 3 dvd set). The fight was a draw and was going to an extra round, Guy was ready to go and Ken Shamrock told him and forced him to walk backstage and then Ken had a few words with the Ref and Sakuraba. Mezger lost and Sakuraba won, wtf? Bad decision maybe, but it was still a close battle, and not one with plenty of action. I could understand why it went to the extra round, but not good enough for Ken, who knows maybe Guy would had finished off Sakuraba in the round but no instead he had to forfit ??

And what's even worse, is this happened just a few moments after Ken Shamrock announced that he was returning to MMA and just signed a 2 fight deal with PRIDE. The fans were happy to see him back and then he goes off on a tantrum and forces one of his fighters to quit?

I don't really blame Ken for blowing his top out there. Pride basically lied to them, and said that there'd only be 1 15 minute round. Well, that didn't happen, and they knew that Guy wasn't in the best shape at that time (I believe a stomach virus), so that was set-up for Saku to win. Total crooked shit, but I still consider that a victory for Guy, because he was supposed to be fodder, and ended up making Sakuraba look like garbage.

Yeah, I'd have been fkin pissed if I was Ken too. Guy basically made Sakuraba look very, very average and easily won what should have been single round fight. Guy, being the dude that he is respected his mentors decision and walked. They overturned the decision afterwards to a Draw or No Contest?

yeah ken was justified to be angry there.and i think that guy's foot had a problem in the sakuraba fight it may have been a fracture.
