Who do you think is the best LW fighter in the world?

I'm very curious about this because the LW rankings have so many nominees.

Personally, I think Gomi is the best LW fighter in the world. I'll be the first to say it, I think Gomi can dominate if he comes to the UFC.

I think it's JZ Calvancanti and I don't think it's close. He is so strong and his ground game is fantastic, his stand up is excellent, the guy just dominates. He's the only 155'er of the top 3 (Gomi, BJ, JZ) who has been facing top notch fighters lately and he has been trashing everyone.

You're going to get plenty of different answers.

I'll go out on a limb and say Tatsuya Kawajiri will be the #1 LW in the world after he runs through the DREAM LW GP. Crusher has the style to be very competitive in the UFC too, because he has great wrestling and is a huge LW.

But as for now, its JZ. He's so damn good.

Strictly talent wise, BJ has to be tops. He has the most talent at 155, even more so than JZ...and thats saying something.

I don't understand how this makes me stupid?

Am I stupid because Gomi is ranked #1 on most Top 10 lists?
Am I stupid because Gomi is the Pride LW Champion?
Am I stupid because Gomi has outstanding accomplishments in the LW division?
Am I stupid because I think Gomi has tons of potential even if he had a poor showing against Diaz?

If this is the world then it should probably be in "General MMA" not "UFC" section.

Its hard to put Gomi top based on recent performances, since the Aurelio first fight, which was in 06, only split decision in the rematch and beaten by Nick Diaz, good against Ishida though who is very good.

So i think its either BJ or JZ at the moment, that is a dream fight for sure.

I dont think that this question can be answered at the moment. There is a bunch of high calibers at both the ufc and in japan. They need to fight against each other before an answer can be find.

The Best in theWorld?

I'd have to go with BJ Penn. Only, and ONLY when he's motivated for the fight and in shape for it...I mean, did you see him against Stevenson? He wasn't even breathing through his mouth! Amazing! When that guys in shape, he's in shape! Plus he's got the strength of a welterweight, unbelievable flexability, heavy hands, solid chin, sick submissions, the list goes on and on...
the other people I would give some credit to are:
Tyson Griffin
Takanori Gomi(so-so)
Gesias Calvancante

I would like to say Gomi cos hes my fave but due to inactivity.........it has to be JZ. He's the LW who has done the most impressive things recently.

Stop saying BJ you damn TUF n00bs! Beating JoeDaddy does not the no. 1 LW make.

AndyHI, I think you might have missed the Stevenson fight. Seriously, am I the only guy who realises his cardio looked like shit in that fight? The guys lungs amost collapsed. Maybe ye were too busy looking at his abs.....

JZ is the #1 LW in the world right now IMHO. He has been completely mauling good competition on a regular basis. He is the complete package with solid to great skills in all areas and he is an absolute monster size/strength wise for 155. You put JZ in a fight against any other LW in the world right now and I'm picking JZ.

JZ Calvancante and it's not even close (well that's IF he beats Aoki)

Can I throw up Ishida as well, just because I like the dude so much?
You certainly may. Unstoppable Tackle FTW!!! Not to mention that the dude rocks a seriously stylish Cauliflower Ear.

I kept discounting Huerta, but in that last fight with Guida, he showed some stuff that I just can't argue with.

Now I don't think he's the best right now... but he's got some stuff - like staying cool, calm, and collected under fire - that with experience and training can really set you apart. I'm going to say that if he keeps working, he could become the best.

Right now, BJ would probably be my pick. But then again, I have a fairly lousy record of picking winners over the past year...

i completely agree with this statement, huerta has been on the top of his game lately. im impressed with his ability to get his ass kicked and still walk fight through and destroy his opponents. right now id have to say BJ. ive been watching him and lately he has done well.

Im gonna say BJ Penn with Gomi a close second, I would love to see Penn/Gomi that would be a great fight, Ive never seen there first bout but would love to BJ won and that is pretty much the only reason I give him the edge, although many other fighter are more consistant I think if BJ is on his game there isnt a LW that can beat him.

JZ's the man to beat right now as far as I'm concerned. He has been on a hot streak, and I'd love to see him & Gomi fight, as it's be a great one. Gomi's been inactive, but is coming back with that solid win over Bang.

Ishida's really making a solid comeback. Beating Melendez & Jung? Word to that.

I sadly believe that JZ will destroy Aoki, so atm I think JZ is the best. Closely behind is Hansen and Ishida. Ishida is starting to become one of my favorite LW fighters and I am a Hansen nuthugger. However, Hansen does have all of the tools to beat imo anyone and hopefully he can pull off this GP :thumb02:

So many LW's to love.

The real question is

"Is there enough room in my heart for all these LW's?"

Right now I'm thinking B.J. His striking and flexibility is on point. His jiu-jitsu is crazy. And his conditioning is looking like he's taking cardio a little more seriously. But I'd personally like to see Sherk and Huerta square off, or can't wait for B.J. to see Huerta. I'm seriously not going to want to call the second of the two fights since I favor Huerta and B.J. on my top ten list.
