Dana White has matched up everyone but Diego against Matt Hughs. While I think GSP is the number one contender and deserves the shot the argument could be made that he had his chance and lost.
Diego should have been next in line.

Why has Sanchez not got a title shot against Matt Hughs.

I kind of agree with you but Dana knows what he's doing. I'm sure that Diego is next in line for a title shot after Georges. Is Sanchez still fighting Riggs in Dec?

Because Diego just came into the title scene with his win over Karo. Before that Diego was nowhere near a title shot.

I seen the fight against Karo. The Judo throws by Karo where impresive. When the third round came about Diego took over. He threw a knee and knocked Karo's teeth out. The impresive thing about the knee was how high it went to catch him in the mouth. I think Diego has a great chance of winning when the time comes.

Either Matt Serra or Chris Lyttle are in line for a title shot before Diego.

If GSP and the TUF winner both lose, I think there is momentum behind a third Penn/Hughes fight before Sanchez gets a title shot.

Sanchez should have to beat GSP and/or Penn, IMO, before getting at Hughes. Just to make it even all around.

Had his chance and lost it? You've got to be joking. No one deserves a shot at Hughes more than St. Pierre right now. Diego is an incredible fighter and will get his chance i'm sure, and although he's well on his way he hasn't quite earned it yet. Diego vs BJ to determine who gets the next shot for the title would be amazing.

is riggs v sanchez still on ??? i feel that sanchez v bj penn would be the correct fight first given that bj needs to fight again next year, diego needs to keep fighting until gsp/hughes is sorted and in the books. i also think the loser from hughes/gsp WONT fight diego for timing and contendership reasons. So if you look at who else is in the picture there arent all that many. Also diego must wait for hughes/Gsp - then TUF4 v's winner - thats why BJ makes sense - good for both fighters - and it would sell like mad also.

Right now, I dont think Diego should fight for the title. So far he's #4 since he beat Karo. As far as I am concerned BJ is #3 from the belt. He wants a title shot, beat BJ, if he wins then he fights the winner of Hughes/GSP or even perhaps the loser. He's not going to be the #1 contender until he beats Penn, GSP, or Hughes, that is if Hughes loses to GSP.

One problem that I didnt think about is Penn's ability to fight at the moment. I dont know how long he'll be out with the rib injury?

I think all you guys are right. GSP is the number 1 contender. Diego should have to face BJ or GSP or Both before getting a shot. Thats if Hughs can hang on. I know Hughs is a great champion and he deserves the respect for that but his attitude just dont sit right. He comes off like he thinks he is smarter and better everyone else. I guess I'm looking forward to someone choking his ass out again. BJ could do it with no problem but he just does not like to train the way he has to. So Im really looking for GSP to kick ass and take names.

Matt Hughes should be the first Welterweight hall of fame inductee. He's fought and beaten almost everybody. I am curious though as to who will take the belt from him. It'll be hard and whoever does win it will have to either KO or submit him. I dont think any welterweights (except maybe GSP, MAYBE) are strong enough to hold him down to ground n pound him enough to get the TKO.

Dont get me wrong BJ is amazing but since comeing back he has had 2 loses. Diego is undefeated, he definetly deserves a shot after one more fight. Personally i think Diego will beat hughes because he matches up well against him. I think St. Pierre would beet him hopefully after he takes hughes belt.

I think because Diego still has that "Reality Show Winner" cloud still hanging over him. I think he needs to fight either Penn or the loser of the Hughes/GSP fight for people to finnally realize that he's a true contender. And this is coming from a guy who hated Diego. If you go to Dalymotion or You Tube theirs an interview that Diego does from Holland where he's getting ready to train with Fedor Emelianenko, just before his fight with Karo. Its a good interview, and it was after that interview that I really started to like him. (Notice I said "like" and not respect. I dont fight so its not my place to say that I dont respect a fighter;)

I hope they don't try to make Diego go up against some other people and take a chance of losing his title shot just so they can have Penn/Hughes 3. Penn lost to both GSP and Hughes now, he should have to fight a couple more times before getting a title shot. I think it should go like this....

Hughes/GSP-TUF4 winner- Diego

Diego is good but not great. karo was considered a contender when they fought and that was a close fight going into the third round. As for the guy that said Diego matches up well with Hughes, you must be joking. That is like saying Franklin matches up well with Silva. Hughes is better at wrestling and submissions than him and would own him on the mat. Diego is the third best wrestler in that division (1=Hughes;2=Fitch). Diego would also have his ass handed to him by GSP future WW champion.

He matches up good with hughes. Hughes only way to win is take downs and keep top position. If he is on his back he is screwed. Diego is an expert from recovering from his back and turning it around. If Hughes takes him down which he obviously will cause his stand up isnt very good, Diego has a very good chance of turning it around on him. Im not saying he will dominate hughes but he definetly has a better chance against him. GSP would kill him though and I think he is gonna be the champ after the next ppv.
