Why was Nog so sensitive about what Vinny said about him?

even if Vinny was talking sh*t about him, why was he so sensitive about it?

right now he's the #1 HW in the UFC. why should he care what a young, upcoming fighter who's walking in his footsteps thinks about him... hell, he's not even on the same team as Nog!

Nog seems like a guy who doesn't talk behind someone else's back and he doesn't want them talking about him behind his back. I can totally see where he's coming from. Why should Vinny say the things he said?

Questioning someones else skill in BJJ is something I'm sure he takes personally.

Plus Vinny is better then him in BJJ so him saying that probably hurts his pride a bit. Plus I'm sure he doesn't want to be disrespected.

Vinny's BJJ is great, but better than Nog's? Maybe in strictly BJJ competition, but I'd wager Nog's the better grappler in MMA.

How did Nog do in BJJ competitions anyway? Did he even bother with them? He's grappled against guys that have won ADCC and done just fine. :dunno:

Uhh i found the video but something bugs me about it. At the video in the beginning it sais Rodrigo Nogueira but the title of the video sais Minatoro which i think ir rogerio??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyvWTlTKwys

anyway if that is big nog then ricco has submitted him by knee bar.
Scar on his back = Minotauro, so yes it's Big Nog unless I'm seeing things.

Wasn't Vinny sitting next to Machida when they were celebrating Nog's Birthday? Maybe he took it like one of his friends is talking shit behind his back. Maybe that's why he was saying "now we're enemies".

Pride is a huge thing in Brazilian culture too. I know its hard for some people to understand but my girls Brazilian and talking shit about someone is a huge deal to them. Especially if its behind their backs.

Ive kind of learned how to toe the line around her family lets just leave it at that.

Edit: Not neccesarily saying its right or wrong either. I think the added fact that he was Brazilian adds more fuel to the fire. You can tell Nog really did want him on his squad because he thought he was legit, at least grappling wise. Which I think added to him being upset.

I thought Nog over reacted... also it seemed like Nog's team over exaggerated about what was said. I missed some of the episode, so I could be wrong.. but were they referring to the convo mir and vinny had? If so, they said vinny was saying this to him.. they made it sound like vinny was going around running his mouth to everyone about how nog isnt that good at bjj... but in reality he was just talking to mir and didnt even say anything that bad.

Only thing I know is that Vinny is the biggest LHW D-bag on the show. And he SO got what was coming for him.

IMO he disrespected Nogs jiu jutsu (he said something thet Nog wasn't a high level practitioner AT ALL!) and appearently Nog sought it fit to confront him in such a manner. Have you ever seen Nog angry? I mean, this is the first time for me so I think he knew what he was doing (and from his perspective he had all the rifht to be mad.

I rewatched, he didnt say this. Do you have a source? I've read all the blogs from the fighters posted so far.. and none of them claim he said this. Most of them dont even know what Nog was talking about.

Vinny said Nogs BJJ is Basic, and nogs team members took it the wrong way. Basic is fine.. the best JJ grapplers in the world probably use basic JJ (no flying armbars etc lol).

Also pure JJ is irrelevent.. vinnys bjj creditably are probably higher then nogs... alot of people were asking him about his accomplishments.. then nogs accomplishments.. comparing them etc..

I can see how a convo like this could be easily misunderstood / exaggerated to make vinny look bad.

I think the cultural differences are not playing out well for us North Americans. I kind of get where Nog was coming from, and why he kept pressing the issue.

Personally, I liked it. It says a lot about the Brazilians and honor!

Regardless, Nog made his point, and Vinny knows it. As for who would win, Nog would eat Vinny alive. Vinny may have a blacker belt, but he has NO MMA at all.

I don't feel that Big Nog over reacted.

That dude should have nothing bad to say about Nog under those circumstances. Vinny is trying to get IN to the UFC, Nog has already accomplished being a PRIDE champ and a UFC Interim Champ.

It probably hurt Nog's feelings that this guy is talking about him like that. And from his perspective, it hurts team morale.

Plus, as accomplished as Nog is, he's not talking any crap. Plus he's in a setting where he can't just kick the guy's ass for saying it.

BTW Mir is a nerd. That dumb, uncomfortable giggle he has everytime he talks to someone on his team is making me crazy.

I think the reaction was fine, Vinny was acting like his friend and was trying to get some tips and rolled with Nog because he liked him.

Even if Vinny was on the other team Nog would help him out a bit and take him under his wing (maybe after the show it seemed)

Brazilian are very patriotic and back up each other, that shit talking Vinny did with Mir was very disrespectfull IMO. Nog seems to be someone really straight foward and serious about that kind of stuff. That justify his reaction pretty well

The whole issue wasn't that Vinny said he was a better fighter. Vinny said he was better at Jiu Jitsu and guess what he is.

Although I would put my money on Robert Drysdale if they had a TUF grapping competition.

Who ever NEG repped me for speaking my opinion on the NOG reaction is a tottal d bag. Atleast leave me your name for crist sakes so i can say something to you directly. Should i go around NEG repping everyone who thinks NOG's reaction was justified??? For crist sakes people quit getting pissed if someone disagree's with your damn opinion. In my mind you dont even belong in a freaking forum.

ANYWAY
now that i did get a neg rep im just going to come out and say it. Vinnys jujitsu is way better the nog's so i dont know what Nog is crying about. Like he said himself, in the ring its a different story but in training i put my money on Vinny. Anyone who disagree's with this is probably a nog nut hugger or is someone who dosent realize that its alot different doing jujitsu when you have punches flying at you and thats what really matters when your in MMA. So yes Nog was being a cry baby he acted like Vinny was his freaking apprentice and his been coaching him for years and then he got betrayed. I think Rocky's reaction towards Tommy was less dramatic then Nog's so that tells you alot if a damn Hollywood movie is being less dramatic. There now atleast the NEG reps i got will be justified a bit more.

I agree with you...i threw you some rep to make up for the noob with no balls who doesnt leave their name when they toss rep.....

for the record there is ettiquete when it comes to rep...if you have the authority to give rep identify yourself...thats why you should upgrade to a member cuz you get alot more access to the site and you can see everyone who reps you.....

I think Vinny would prob sub Nog.....BUT thats only if Nog doesnt k/o Vinny....:thumb02:

ANYWAY... I didn't want to sound ignorant, but I thought it was because they were both Brazilians that Nog took it more personally. Nog said something like "I respect you, why would you disrespect me?" This pretty much sums up why he got upset. Towards the end of their argument, Nog was even backing off a bit and said "It'll be my pleasure to ask for forgiveness if you didn't say anything. Until then leave it alone." How much more classy can you get?!

That is exactly how I saw it too.

Nog showed respect for Vinny; perhaps they talked earlier, perhaps Nog wanted to train with him afterwords. I am not sure.

What I do know is that Nog clearly felt disrespected when he heard that one of his own countrymen was smack-talking behind his back, especially someone who he respected.

Imagine you wanted to play in the NHL. You happen to be the best skater in the world. You can skate faster than your coach, but are ammature in terms of puck handling, passing, shooting, positioning, and general knowledge.

Would you diss your coach behind his back because you happen to excell at skating?

Now I realize Nog wasn't Vinny's coach, but there was potential in the future, and Vinny has possibly slammed a door shut on possible future training with Big Nog.

A thing many of us are missing: we saw this second hand on a heavily edited TV show. Nog was there in real life. I say he knew more how to react than Vinny, and considering he's like the nicest guy usually it seems rather inprobable that he suddenly just goes bananas and goes berserk on a guy he hardly knows.

So I'm gonna trust Nog on this one and say he was not overreacting.

Judging by the fact that Vinny's hair colour gave away the fact the show was heavily edited and not in chronological order, I don't know what to believe. However we've all seen how proud Nog is of being a coach and how much he cares about the guys so I definitely don't think he'd be like that with Vinny over nothing.

It's the case for any reality show and has happened in the past with TUF but god, the editing annoys me no end. I interview people for a magazine and I know how easy it is to make someone look really bad just by printing one quote that could be taken in a variety of ways.
