Okay everyone. Here's something for a little fun, if it hasn't been done already, if so my bad. A little into 09 here we've got a decent idea of who is going to be getting title shots and when and where.

So for fun, make your predictions now. On December 31st (after the big year end event and everything leading up to it) who will be the title holders in each division.

Make one post with your predictions, and try to keep the debate and argument to a minimum, it's just for fun. I'll bring this thread up at the end of the year and see where everyone landed.

EDIT: I'll keep everyones predictions on file and at the end of the year rank how everyone did. Any predictions made after 02/20 (The day before UFC 95) Will not be counted.
****If a moderator is bored and wants to close the thread for me on the 02/21 that would rock. Have fun and good luck.

I'll start things off:

HW: Brock Lesnar
LHW: Machida
MW: Anderson Silva
WW: Thiago Alves (long shot I know)
LW: Deigo Sanchez

This is an update done on 08/27/09
Well, there is still a lot of time left for things to change, but I thought I'd update everyone that was a part of this 6 months ago to where we are now. If nothing else it should make for interesting conversation. I've only listed people that are at least 4 out of 5 correct at this point, since just about everyone is at least 3 out of 5, myself included!

So here you go:

lpbigd444 - 5 out of 5 to date, the one and only to go 100% so far.

aellisl
unclehulka13
kds13
Dragonstriker
Where'sthecrow?
Suizida
Suvaco
BabyJ.D.
rdrush
runner2
cplmac
Shamrock-Oritz
The Ultimate
...all went 4 for 5

So that's where we are for now. I'll update at the end of the year again, as promised.

HW - Nog (He'll get a shot on the NYE show and take it back)
LHW - Rampage (Timing won't work out for Machida this year)
MW - A. Silva (I see him holding this until he retires, or GSP moves up to face him)
WW - GSP (Nobody at WW right now scares me in regards to him)
LW - Sherk (BJ vacates title sometime this year and Sherk wins to take the title back)

I have a feeling Sanchez or Florian will take LW I bet BJ is even more insecure then ever,

HW:Frank Mir (He'll rebeat Lesnar, and look great doin it.)
LHW:Rashad Evans (He's not losing his belt at all)
MW:Damien Maia (I think he can sub him)
WW:Georges St. Pierre (He's also not losing his belt at all)
LW:Kenny Florian (At this point, I see him winning due to cut from an elbow)

I am curious why a few people think that Anderson will hold onto the belt until he has to face Bisping? Where do you see him winning the fight? I personally think he will get picked apart standing, and he doesn't have a good enough ground game to win there either.

I don't think Anderson will lose to Bisping and quite honestly I don't see that match-up happening either. The hardest pick was between Lyoto and Rashad at LHW. If that fight comes to pass the haters will think it would suck but I really really want to see that fight badly. Super close fight to call IMO and I would not be surprised to see either man win. Rampage is a great contender and threat but Rashad has gone to a new level and Machida is Machida.

Quite honestly I know they made the Jackson-Jardine match-up to try and save the UFC 96 main event with the sole intention that Rampage wins for a title shot while Machida waits. Rashad-Rampage is also a creamy match-up as well.

LHW has got a couple of amazing scenarios to play out this year. WW has GSP-Alves- which is a great fight IMO. LW will depend on Penn and his commitment to cement his legacy at that weight class and stay motivated. HW- will see if Brock can continue to improve but I think he will lose at some point but he will continue to improve and easily contend again. MW- is Silva but I think Okami and Marquardt have great shots at his title.

I'm really looking forward to this year but I hope the UFC makes the proper match-ups for the titles though I won't hold my breath.

Heavyweight- Alistair Overeem ( If He does not sign soon enough then Brock will still have it)

Light Heavyweight- Rampage Jackson (Hes mosdef the scariest guy at 205 right now and he's on his way to claim his belt back)

Middleweight- Georges St. Pierre (Anderson vs. GSP end of the year card and GSP takes it via surprising domination, dare i say even on the feet?)

Welterweight- Georges St. Pierre (He's gonna show crazy good standup in the Thago fight)

Lightweight- BJ Penn (Given he doesnt retire due to the beating given by ^)

Finally Machida gets the love he deserves. Pretty much what everyone else has said about the rest. Lesnar, Silva, GSP, Penn. I think the divisions in danger are LHW, possibly WW(Alves is huge) and LW (Kenflo long shot).

I want Penn to lose. He annoys me with his love to fight and hate to train attitude. I give him mad props for his skill but come one. Although I guess I can't blame him, if I had a bunch of money I wouldn't do shit either.

1. frank mir (hw)

2. page(lhw) until machida takes it from him .

3. a. silva (mw)

4. gsp (ww) (after a brief meeting with a silva , in defeat , does what he did to bj and sends him back to his original class and defeats all comers at ww)

5. kenflo (lw) after he just outworks another lazy out of shape penn .

HW - Brock Lesnar, unless by some miracle Alistair Overeem comes in and fights for a title shot in 2009
LHW - Rashad Evans .. side note, Machida is not even getting a title shot unless Rampage does bad against Jardine, and i doubt 2009 will be long enough to have another title shot at LHW

MW - Anderson Silva
WW - GSP
LW - Sean Sherk (long shot, but i believe in him)

Cant wait for Machida to take a beating from a real contender to "finally get the respect he deserves".

He has improved, but both of them are still be overall better fighter in my opinion. I don't see Rashad knocking out Machida or taking him down and I think Rampage has much more power standing and its hard to do anything to him on the ground. Rashad can beat him I guess by taking him down over and over.
