the most ive lost in the shortest time was 12.8 lbs in around 55 hours. Im a high school wrestler, so I really have to watch my wieght. I do very unhealthy stuff although.I barely eat anything and drink anything, make weight, and then go pig out, and continue that cycle for around 4.5 months. It sucks and I know I shouldnt be doing it this way. I say it is possible for you. But if you do it how id do, once you put some food back in your body, your weight goes up like crazy. Good luck with your weight loss if you decide to do it.

When the pro fighters cut weight they aren't cutting fat at all, they are just reducing the amount of water in their body which will make them weigh less. You don't lose muscle or fat. To my knowledge cutting weight isn't a long process, all the articles I've seen on it talk about doing it 2 to 3 days before weigh in, so basically, up until those 2 to 3 days before weigh in, you need to cut calories and increase cardio if you want to lose weight. But always be careful while cutting weight since it is incredibly hard on your body. I don't remember exactly what to do the few days before weigh in (I know you drink tons of water on day 1, then cut it to half on day 2 and none on day 3 and you also cut your sodium intake to none but I don't know all the details), so you can find articles by using google.

the secret is take salt out of your diet, chew gum and spit, albolene, and a sauna.

When fighters cut weight before a fight they are in essence dehydrating thier bodies... that is why most weigh in for pro fights are the day before a fight so the fighter can put the water back into thier system before the actual fight if not both fighters would pass out before the first round. As for trying to drop weight classes.. Here is my thoughts on that..

A kid I was working with.. senior in high school.. Doing all he could to drop weight to get the the weight class he wrestled at the year before.. Got to the weight... I told him he was not going to win the tournament he was in for his first set of matches.. WEll tournament day came.. he won his first match and completely gassed out and lost his 2nd.. hence he did not win his weight class as he had done previously... he had 3 weeks before the regular season started.. Since i predecited exactly what was going to happen to him ahead of time this time he took my advice.. he started.. *GASP* eating (healthy of course).. regardless of what his coach told him... He was lifitng weights and he ended up moving up not one but two weight classesbut he went up by adding muscle. Last I talked to him he has not lost a match at his new weight and he told me he does not even feel tired at all even after long matches or tournaments..

Tip to all fighters don't kill yourself to get down to some weight class that is well below your bodies natural weight just cause it was where you were the year before.. eat right add muscle and do hard cardio. compete where your body, not your coach thinks you should be or you were.. you'll do better and feel better.

Though as for cutting weight before a fight... if the weigh in is the day before the match just cut the water weight soon as weigh in is over drink water.. I mean lots of water the rest of the night until your urine stream is clear ... this means your rehydrated properly.. if the weigh in is the same day as the match I advise against this or you'll be exhausted for the match,,, unless you got like real early weigh in and late day matches.. even then your risking perfomance.

well my main concern is this, read it and you guys tell me what would be the best decision for me. Here goes nothing -

I want to join the police academy. Thats my biggest goal in life. Right now im 6'2 215. I lift weights 2 days rest 1 and train 2 days again. I do cardio everyday. Since i get really sick when im doing outside running in the winter (trust me, i tried everything), i run like a mile in like 9:30 on 2 incline and i walk 2 minutes on high inclines and then run 2/3 mintes again. My usual is 1-3/4 in like 20 minute son the tredmill. Afterwards in the gym i do

1st day - Cardio 1-3/4 miles tredmill, Legs, shoulders, triceps, biceps & basic arm exercies.

2nd day - Cardio 1-3/4 miles on tredmill, chest, back and abs.

3rd day - No weights, some cardio boxing and/or sprints outside in the field.

MY GOAL:
-100 meter sprint as fast as possible
-Beep Test or Shuttle run, basically u run back and forth of 20m court before the beep goes off... it gets faster and faster. I need to get level 6.5.
-Dummy drag (150 lbs) to 25 ft.

What should I do? any cops out there? maybe someone can help me out. Being a cop is my life dream and im willing to do anything to achieve it.

Am I missing something (or are you leaving out a crucial fact) because to my knowledge there are no weight limits (at least not at the weight you are) to getting into police academy and as for the other stuff, that is not on topic. However I'll answer it: The key to fast Beep Tests/Shuttle Runs is just pushing yourself when you do them and keep on doing them. For cardio don't just run on the treadmill since you aren't looking for a constant run (the way that you mention it), go into the basketball court (or wherever the Beep Test/Shuttle Run is held) and do the actual thing. Now don't stop doing the treadmill, but alternate between the two.

I'm not sure how to help with the 100 m sprints. The only thing I can think of is explosive sets of squats and plyometrics. Finally, the dummy drag, try to simulate something similar to that (even if it isn't that much weight) because it will use more than isolated muscles that are worked on while in the gym so it may not be easy.

I have been a police officer for 10 years now. I have always been into fitness and staying in shape since I was 18 years old. I am currently 39 years old. Let me give you some good advice. Dont be concerned with losing weight. I have been involved in hundreds of altercations of the years and let me tell you that muscle and strength are WAY more assests to have as an officer than endurance. Now that does not mean to give up on your cardio but my advice is to stay at a solid 215 rather than to drop down to an average 185lbs. You will find that being able to take someone to the ground with weight and stength will be more beneficial.

Well, for what you want you aren't going to be cutting weight, you'd be going on a diet and stepping up cardio and all that stuff. You have to ask yourself if 15 lbs. makes that much of a difference to you for the sprint. I'm not sure how much the 15 lbs. would affect your sprint time but you have to weigh the costs/benefits (I'm an economics major, we do this all the time and my professors always tell us to use this in real life when making decisions too). For some it can be very hard to lose weight and can put people in a stressed mood, which isn't healthy mentally. Do you think the seconds difference in sprint time will make you feel justified in losing the weight (when you don't really need to otherwise it seems)?

Honestly, this is what I'd suggest: do some plyometrics (for explosiveness) and continue weight training and cardio (including the Beep Test/Shuttle Run) while watching your diet. If you lose weight, great, if not, okay, but you'd be training already for what you want and your body will respond.

Cut about 500 calories a day out of your diet you will lose about 1.5 pounds of real weight not water weight or muscle a week. i wrestled for twelve years and in college i was working out i had to eat 3000 calories a day just to maintian my 160 weight. i was only eating about 1000 a day thats how i was able to cut to 142 every week. lots of water and good carbs to give you energy to burn

you just aren't conditioned. Working on the sprints will help that. Another thing you can do while on the treadmill is doing a slower speed for 1 or 2 minutes and then a real fast speed for 1 or 2 minutes and then back to the slower speed. Either way, you just need to get into better cardio shape if that is happening to you.

well as someone who tried out for the police academy a few months ago for the Nashville Airport Police department I got some advice...

Most police departments are more concerned about your mental status and put more emphisis on the actual written test.. In alot of places a decent showing on the physical is all that is needded as long as you pass the written... For me it went like this..

On the physical portion of the exam I did pretty good top two or 3 of every physical test except the mile and a half run... I was like 5th out of 12 taking the test. there were people who beat me onthe physical stuff over all but failed the written.. they did not get to go onto the interview portion of the qualifications...
Over all it was a pretty tough test. partly cause I was not really ready for the physical side.. I had not really been working out in almost 1.5 years at that point.. had a new baby in the house not getting much sleep and all plus man it was brutally hot that day... but just learn from the test if you do not get selected the first time I was in a situation where 12 people were trying out for only two positions. I came in 3rd.. Oh well but mind you this was for an airport police department not a city or twon.. they usually take more people the airport is very selective about who they take.. they wanted me to try out again in 6 month I have about 2 to go not sure if I am gonna do it depends on how things are going come then..

I heard physical and written is easy... but here in toronto, O.P.P, they give u a hard time when it comes to hour and a half interview and video session where you basically solve situations without moving ur hands and ur body - basically you sit on a chair and right down what you would have done. Im scared shitless.. police is like a dream job for me :D

#17 ·
yea the interview is usually the hardest part that is what tripped me up... and granted... every department is a bit different so your experience can be alot different from mine.. the reason most do not stress the physical portion of the test is that is what the police academy is for.. .

it was odd questions.. for me it would have been a series of two interviews.. a general one then the one With the Airport police department staff.. The police department people wanted me I had already been talking to them.. the other group they asked all kinds of questions that had nothing to do with law enforcement it threw me off which is why I did not do so good I was on the list to be hired... just 3rd on the list.. Funny thing is.. they took the only girl who tried out.. (my test and physical scores were higher, she only beat me on the run, she used be be a long distance runner) and they took a guy who was already working at the airport, THough I do felt he deserved one of the positions..

as for the questions.. they were to get an idea of your peronality andthings like that.. they asked about past experiences.. and other such things.. really no way to prepare for it...

it couldnt be that hard, could it? here its an hour and a half long interview and they try to play with ur head, or so i heard. Im scared shitless, now that i finally got my cardio to a decent level, the damn interview and video session is scaring me

#21 ·
dude, just take a deep breath before you go in the main purpose of the interview is to get a sense of your characterjust answer honestly, but keep your answers simple do not get long winded which is what I think my problem was. keep it sweet and simple. you should do fine.

Pro fighters dehydrate their bodies only long enough for the weigh ins. As soon as they're officially weighed in, they eat up and rehydrate themselves. That's why some people fighting at 170 can sometimes was 180-190 during the actuall fight.

actually what you want to do is eat a lot. you shouldnt starve yourself because that destroys muscle. you want to be eating a lot of protein (baked chicken/salmon/oats) and doing a lot of cardio. protien supplies strength and engergy to your workouts and muscle. also it burns faster than other foods so it will slim you down. stay away from salt tho because it retains water increasing your water weight. cardio 5 times a week at 60% heart rate will put your body in fat burn mode. more than that and its just heart conditioning. go to the sauna once a week for 15-20 minutes. also you should take fish oil pills. they can be bought at any wal-mart or cvs. the oils in it actually makes you lose fat by increasing fat oxidation. keep it up bro and you'll be at your target weight, bro

The Original Poster wondered how to lose weight fast, what you're proposing won't make the person lose weight but gain weight (depending on how much you eat and how big you normally are). The amount of time that the fighter doesn't eat (he shouldn't starve himself because that can slow the metabolism and prevent maximum weight loss) but eats a lot and then a few days before the weigh in, he should start the process of cutting weight (which was mentioned before). Also, I don't buy into that "Fat burning heart rate". If you do more intense cardio, you'll burn more calories which will help you lose more weight.
