I could use some advice/help...

Hey guys I have a few questions for those who are already physically fit and very athletic. I used to do MMA training in Alabama with a BJJ black belt and Greco Roman Wrestling specialist, and I was in good shape. About a year ago, however, I got in a bad wreck, which caused me to start smoking and quit training. A year later I find myself in the worst shape I have ever been in. I mean, I'm talking I can't even run a half a mile. I'm not fat, and I look like I'm in shape, I just have terrible endurance.

Right now all I do is lift weights, but that's not building my cardio at all. In two weeks I start training for the army, but in order to qualify I have to run a mile in 8:30. What is the best way to build my cardio in two weeks, starting from scratch??? If anyone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it...

train in interval sprints- sprint a set distance, then run/jog a set distance. You can also do this for time- sprint 30 seconds, run/jog 30seconds. None of it feels good, th esooner you get started, the better off you'll be.

Slow down on the smoking. I am guilty of smoking and training. Keep running every day. I like to run 2 miles every day. Twice a week i will go to a football field and sprint 100 yards then jog back to the ten yard line, then sprint 90 yards, then job back to the 20 and so on. This really helps out for MMA or Grappling Tourneys. Since you explode, then slow it down, and explode again. Its almost identical to competing.

HIIT training is awsome, but work your way up to it. Running half a mile and gassing is horrible man. I feel sorry for you

I usually run about 2-4 miles every 2nd day. After a work out at the gym i run 2 miles. When I do my HIIT training i usually run about one mile, then when i get a good heartrate going i do side to sides, cross overs and sometimes even lunges. ANd offcourse sprint every every third lap. Im such a lazy runner tho...i hate running.
