God, this thing sounds like it was beyond awful.

Way cool that Oleg and Smith got wins, though. I love me them old-timey UFC guys.

I actually enjoyed the event in a crappy, time-warpish kind of way...
Funny to see how the cage design pretty much had the opposite effect of what they were hyping up...
And poor Mark Kerr...I think I have to finally give up any hope of seeing him get some of magic back that he once had...

I didn't see the event I'll catch the videos later but wow it seems like it sucked.

Did Wiuff trash Ricco or was it close?

Well it was only a 5 minute fight, and Wiuff by no means trashed him.

Basically just took him down and controlled him for the majority of 5 mins, don't think he really landed anything substantial.

The event really didn't "suck", so to speak. Even though all of us were making fun of it, it really could have been worse.

I mean it was basically UFC 1, with a horrible announcer and lacking a lot of talent. The other differences would be the YAMMA! pit fighting surface, and it did have entertaining super fights. Smith pounding BEAN when he couldn't get up after he fell, and Taktarov subbing fat-Kerr was fun to see.

And even though Wiuff was beating on a bunch of cans, he still looked decent. The guy from the Ukraine was another dude I think could be pretty decent. The rest though were quite canish.

Kind of like a carnival event. Shitty talent, but entertaining/hysterical for the most part.

Think that about sums it up.

How did the surface seem. I mean from what I read on Sherdog it seemed to serve it's purpose. Keeping guys from pinning each other on the fence and holding them there.

Hmm I dunno...like I guess it did somewhat make a different, but nothing substantial from what I could tell.

Fighters were of course still able to stall, and there was a lot of good stand-ups by the refs. But the slant could still slightly allow the fighter on top to trap his opponent to some extent. And when they would back paddle to the top it seemed to make it quite a bit easier for the opponent pushing them up there to take him down.

What does everyone else think?

Overall, I personally don't think it made much of a difference. To me it definitely seemed more of a gimmick that Meworwitz(sp?) used in attempts that people would watch his talent-less HW tourney, and super-fights of old fogies.

Curious to see the PPV/Live gate numbers....I really doubt this show did that well. Like if none of us on here are buying the PPV, are casual MMA fans actually gonna buy it? I wouldn't think so....

Well my hope for the surface was that it kept fighters from trying takedowns where if they failed they could just hold their opponent against the cage. Like in Burkman vs Swick.

I'm sure there was still lay and pray but it's MMA with low tier fighters what more can you expect. I'm just wondering if their was a lot of clinching against the cage or if the surface got rid of that aspect.

The ring design was pretty stupid IMO.

First off, since when is clinch work boring and useless? Second, everytime someone back peddaled into the lip, they tripped and had to settle in guard for a bore-fest. Plus, its a serious risk if you get slammed on it. And, a fighter could pretty much run to the top and kick the dudes head off, or even get elevation for chokes, which is cheap.
