1st fight this saturday.
I have my first cage fight this saturday night. I'll be weighing in at 155. Im cutting from 180 and i'm getting close. The guy i'm fighting is 0-1 and walks at 154, so i should have some size on him, he has a wrestling background and thats about all i know. I've been training bjj, some muay tai, and some boxing all for about 8 months. my strength is bjj. I'm nervous as hell. i guess thats normal? but anyone have any advice?

well i have never fought in a cage lol i have boxed a few times amateur and i got over my nervousness by laughing listening to my old comedy albums, hell i warmed up for a fight once while Richard pryor was on a lil 10 inch t.v in the room i was in haha, I'm highly emotional before i fight from anger to sadness man, i find that if you fight angry you **** up, if you fight while your anxious or nervous you end up being to cautious and don't take advantage of certain situations when you can, keep in mind I'm a boxer not a MMA fighter but i doubt theres much difference in mental preparation lol. Just stay calm and focused deep breathing exercises are very useful, and most of all don't be afraid of losing if it happens it happens just go out there and do what you trained to do and walk away from it with a lesson. best of luck to you, welcome to the forums and i hope what i said helped even a lil bit.

Get your mind ready for the fight. Visualize what you think he is going to do. Go through every possible scenario in your head so if it happens you won't be surprised. A lot of people underestimate this type of preparation. This really helps you focus for the fight. HOWEVER, the most important thing you need to remember is to not blow your wad as soon as the bell rings. 99% of first timers go balls to the wall as soon as they here the bell ring. DON'T DO THIS!!!!! Concentrate and relax. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed and caught up in the moment. Be smart. If he rushes you, move in and tie him up, turning him into the cage. Let HIM panic and waste his energy. Even if you are in the best cardio shape you could possibly be in, you will have an adrenalin "dump" if you are not collected in there. I assume you have done a lot of sparring, so getting hit should not shock you. Don't panic if the guy starts swinging wildly. Just use good defense and let him "dump" his energy. Then when he is gassed . . . get him.
I don't know your or his style so no pointers on what to do. But it is very, very, very and did I mention very, important to stay calm!!!

If you're cutting that much, save some energy and don't go all out the first round. If you do, you'll have no wind blowing your sails if the fight goes to the third round. Also, do the Fedor stoic stare. It will intimidate your opponent if you look calm because you know he's just as nervous as you are. I would do what the poster above said and just visualize every situation you can and go over what you would do, so if it happens it'll be fresh in your mind what the proper action to take is.

Stay visually and mentally focused throughout the fight day, conserve your energy and stay absolutely positive throughout the day and warm-ups. Go through your walk up to the cage so it feels more comfortable before the fight.
Like the others said before stay calm,REMEMBER to breathe naturally leading up to the fight and especially in the 1st round. No matter what happens early stay focused on your gameplan and BREATHE- don't gas yourself by over amping and forgetting to focus on the little things you worked on in training.
That being said- I greatly respect you stepping in the cage. Good luck my friend and....BREATHE!!
