DEEP LW tourney to crown new Champ.

DEEP recently announced several fights for their next event, DEEP 39, which will be headlined by a lightweight tournament. The winner of the tournament will be crowned the new DEEP lightweight champion. Former champion Pang Sung Hwan recently vacated the title.

All eight participants for the tournament were named with several fights being announced for the tournament. Participants include former DEEP lightweight champion Nobuhiro Obiya, former DEEP welterweight champion Jutaro Nakao and DREAM veteran Daisuke Nakamura.

Former DEEP lightweight champion Nobuhiro Obiya returns to action after a hiatus from fighting to take on DEEP veteran Yoshihiro “Barbaro44” Tomioka. UFC veteran and Pride veteran Jutaro Nakao faces off with touted Japanese prospect Katsunori Kikuno in the second tournament fight. In the last tournament fight, DEEP veteran Seigo Inoue faces off with fellow veteran Toshikazu “ISE” Iseno.

That leaves two tournament participants without a fight in DREAM veteran Daisuke Nakamura and DEEP lightweight prospect Koichiro Matsumoto. Its not known whether they’ll end up facing each other as the last tournament fight or if one of the other fights will end being a reserve bout for the tournament.

Also seeing action on the card is DEEP middleweight champion Yuichi Nakanishi taking on fellow Japanese fighter Yuya Shirai in a non-title affair.

In a battle of bantamweights, Pancrase veteran Daiki “DJ Taiki” Hata faces off with longtime Shooto veteran Naoya Uematsu.

In a DEEP vs. Wajyutsu Keisyukai best of three series, DEEP veteran Eiji Ishikawa takes on Wajyutsu Keisyukai fighter Yusaki Tsukumo; DEEP representative Yuta Watanabe takes on Wajyutsu Keisyukai fighter Yukiya Naito; and DEEP representative Luiz Andrade takes on Wajyutsu Keisyukai fighter Shinobu Miura.
Daisuke Nakamura has improved tremendously recently. I think he can take the tournament down. Won his last 7. 10-1 in his last 11 with his loss coming to Shaolin.

Jutaro Nakao who is in the tournament has beaten him in the past, I wouldn't mind seeing these two guys fight again.

Nobuhiro Obiya hasn't fought in a while, he is the former champ, 9-3 with 3 losses in a row.. All against good competition though. Melendez, Buscape and Yokota who of course made it to the final of the Sengoku tournament before losing a decision to Kitaoka.

So yeah, make sure you check it out!

Fedor fights I want to see..

Fedor vs. Josh Barnett
Fedor vs. Randy Couture
Fedor vs. Tim Sylvia - DEMOLISHED
Fedor vs. Andrei Arlovski - DEMOLISHED

hmmmmm, i wonder how many become reality..

Damn, how did I sleep on this topic?

Nakamura's a solid fighter, who has been underrated for quite some time. You're right, he has improved a ton, and I think he'll end up winning this whole tourney. Jutaro just isn't the same fighter, sadly. I love me some Nakao and his yellow undies, but the guy just seems so old in there. Kikuno should win a decision.

Obiya's a solid fighter. Dude has a win over Vieira, but the guy hasn't fought in forever.

Ah excellent, another underrated Japanese event that only 4 people will notice.

Quick question, Imanari, he's the FW champ, right?

I normally watch on youtube, there are a few dedicated people who upload a lot of Japanese MMA. You may have to watch like a month after the event actually happened though.. but I'm sure it being "Deep", you can avoid the results..

This is Deep: 37th Impact a few months back, Deep 39 is the next one.

Evgeny Maximkin vs. Jun Soo Lim

Shinobu Miura vs. Luiz Andrade I

Yusaku Tsukkumo vs. Yasushi Kitazaki

Seigo Inoue vs Koichiro Matsumoto

Hiroki Ozaki vs. Riki Fukuda

Kousei Kubota vs. Eiji Ishikawa

Katsunori Kikuno vs. Yoshihiro "Barbaro44" Tomioka

Yasuhito Namekawa vs. Claudio Silva

Ryuta Sakurai vs. Kozo Urita

Jong Man Kim vs. Daiki Hata - Part 1
Jong Man Kim vs. Daiki Hata - Part 2

Miku Matsumoto vs. Misaki Takimoto - Part 1
Miku Matsumoto vs. Misaki Takimoto - Part 2(They are both exhausted at the end of this)

Masakazu Imanari vs. Hiroshi Umemura

Fedor fights I want to see..

Fedor vs. Josh Barnett
Fedor vs. Randy Couture
Fedor vs. Tim Sylvia - DEMOLISHED
Fedor vs. Andrei Arlovski - DEMOLISHED

hmmmmm, i wonder how many become reality..

Yeah, Youtube is a good place to watch DEEP, since there are people who upload the current shows. Also, the current FOTY is a DEEP fight (Imanari vs Mishima 2), and it's on Youtube. I highly recommend it. Hell, anything with Imanari is recommended (Besides his fight with Abe, which was absolutely horrible).

Imanari vs Umemura was amazing. Like, Imanari completely smoked a BJJ blackbelt with ease.
