first time sparring

Hey guys,

Im a new fighter, have been only training for about 2 months now, and i was wondering what your first sparring experience was like. I just had mine today and I got completely wrecked in 3 rounds. I was told when you spar you only go about 40%, yet when I got in there I was getting hit with bombs non stop. Normally, how hard do you guys spar, and is it better the more you get your butt kicked. Damn, its discouraging getting your ass kicked.

It really depends, usually I go less than 80% with head gear etc but remember your going to get back what you give. But take it easy when your starting, I've seen a bunch of guys get injured going to hard to fast.

I got my ass handed to me a number or times, and still do. Go super light and concentrate on form more than anything else. This is training, not a fight. Reinforce to your partner that you're a total newbie and GO LIGHT. If you throw, so will your partner..

If you get whooped do not be discouraged! If anything view it posotivley. You are not supposed to go in there and not get hit and destroy everyone. When you get whooped in sparring you get better and what not. I usually laugh and smile when I get hit. I remember my first time, I was put up against all older (22+ years) experinced fighters. I got whooped for 3-4 rounds and I had a blast man!

I remember the first time I spared it was when I was in TKD I was sparring against a black belt and got my as handed to me for 3 minuets strait before we switched partners then I got my head knocked off literally by a brown belt till I finally gout to some one around my level.

we only went around 60 to 70% but a TKD front kick will knock the wind out of ya.

TrueLifeTaker has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I remember my first sparring session and at 1st I felt really overwhelmed and very nervy. You will improve as you start to feel more comfortable in the Cage/Ring.

My first ever sparring partner had sick Thai and not only bashed me round the cage with body and head shots but also gave me dead legs which lasted for days. I would say that you need to be going at 40-60% in sparring as you are trying to create an invironment of a fight.

Just try and relax on your next session and don't beat yourself up mentally. Give it time you have only been training a few months.

ask to be paired with someone else. complain to the instructor that he isn't sparring, he is trying to hurt you. TBH there is a difference. If your nose is getting busted, first punch, there is something wrong with the training matchup.

Seriously, let the instructor know. You aren't there to build some other douchebag's confidence while you rack up injuries and medical bills.

Your right, its just so embarrassing, my coach was literally laughing at me after i got my ass kicked. But yeah your right.

I got hit very hard, very often my first couple of times. I took that as a positive though, it taught me the importance of not droping my hands. Ive always learned the most when im on the recieving end of a beating, it exposes your bad habits real quickly.
